The Potter's Hands

This word came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
Rise up, be off to the potter's house;
there I will give you my message.
I went down to the potter's house and there he was,
working at the wheel.
Whenever the object of clay which he was making
turned out badly in his hand,
he tried again,
making of the clay another object of whatever sort he pleased.
Then the word of the LORD came to me:
Can I not do to you, house of Israel,
as this potter has done' says the LORD.
Indeed, like clay in the hand of the potter,
so are you in my hand, house of Israel.
(Jer 18:1-6) Yesterdays reading at Mass
We are weak.  We are children uncertain in this world.  Sometimes we are listening so closely to Our Lord and sometimes we are distracted by all the noise of this world.  We sometimes build ourselves up through earthy means and feel quit good about ourselves.  Yet most of us find a moment when the face we show the world begins to crack and comes tumbling down.  When we come tumbling down it is such a consolation that there are hands to catch us.  Steady hands that have been holding us waiting for us to lean on them instead of ourselves.  We are just children.  We need the hands of Our Heavenly Father to hold us and guide us.  When we try to stray and find ourselves lost we have only to remember this beautiful reading.  Whatever we have done with ourselves, whatever choices we have made away from God hope is never lost.  We are still soft clay in the Hands of the Lord.  When we ask Him to take control of our Life and consecrate ourselves to Him He can with steady hands gently shift us back to center.  From that center place close to His Heart He then will make of us the most beautiful of objects.  If He so wishes He will make us a living ciborium into which He will pour Love and graces.  So much love will He pour in us that it will spill out to those around us.

Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
