Sixth Day of Christmas 2021

The Octave of Christmas seems to pass so quickly. One must savor the moments. Members of the Children's Rosary in Derry, Ireland participated in the Children's Rosary "Patiently Waiting" Campaign. They sent us a picture of their home with the "Patiently Waiting" sign in the window (see video below). This sign remained in their window through Advent. On Christmas they replaced the "Patiently Waiting" sign with one that read "Christ is Born" (see above). We are grateful to all those who participated in this year's "Patiently Waiting" Campaign.

The video explaining the "Patiently Waiting" Campaign is below or one can click HERE.

A Journey from Kenya to Tanzania to Retrieve Rosaries for the Children

Today we received this beautiful picture of the Children's Rosary at St. Mary's Church in Simba, Kenya (see above). Br. Cleophus traveled 6 hours to Moshi, Tanzania to retrieve 2,000 handmade rosaries we had sent. These rosaries were part of a shipping barrel we had sent to Fr. Ruwaichi in Tanzania.

Br. Cleophus' trip was one that began yesterday (December 27) leaving on the journey at 3AM. Br. Cleophus returned safely to Kenya today (December 28) with the rosaries. The children were very excited to each receive one. Fr. Wachira held a Mass today at St. Mary's Church in honor of the Holy Innocents. Fr. Wachira offered the Mass for all the Children's Rosary group members all over the world.

May everyone have a blessed fourth day of Christmas!

Christmas with members of the Children's Rosary at St. Stephen School, Kenya

Br. Cleophus sent pictures from his visit to members of the Children's Rosary at St. Stephen School.

The school was named after St. Stephen whose feast was December 26th.

We had an opportunity to visit this school while in Kenya in the summer of 2019. St. Stephen school is in very rural region of Kenya bordered by a large wild life preserve with no fences. There are no formal roads leading to this school. When we visited we shared rosaries with them and they shared their beautiful handmade necklaces with us. They are members of the Maasai tribe and live primarily by herding small animals.

Happy Feast of the Holy Family 2021

During the Octave of Christmas the Feast days come one after the other.  It is such a blessed time of the year one might become overwhelmed.  However, the Feast of the Holy Family is something that deserves particular attention.  Something that I became aware of at least a year after the Children's Rosary formed was that the chapel where the first meeting of the Children's Rosary was held some 10 years ago is named after the Holy Family.  In our parish we rarely call it by its formal name the Holy Family Chapel but rather call it simply our chapel and so its true name was not known to me until shortly after the Children's Rosary began.  In reflection it seemed a perfect home for the Children's Rosary.  For children are the heart of the family and the family is the lungs of the Church.  If our families are strong then our church will be strong.  And so I could see the wisdom of Our Lord in bringing the children to prayer in a space dedicated to the Holy Family.  Through these little innocent prayers the coals in our families of love and peace would be stoked and a renewed commitment to family prayer would begin.

The pictures in this post were taken at the December 2021 meeting of the Children's Rosary at Holy Family Chapel at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in West Hartford, Connecticut USA. This is the chapel where the Children's Rosary began.  At our last meeting one of the children decided to dress as an angel. The children gathered around the Holy Family placing roses as they led each decade of the Rosary.

We wish you a blessed Feast of the Holy Family and may many graces flow into your families.

A Christmas Gift from the Children's Rosary 2021

Merry Christmas from the Children's Rosary. Here in West Hartford, Connecticut, USA, the home of the Children's Rosary, we had a white Christmas. Snow began falling just after midnight on December 24 and continued through the morning allowing everything to have a beautiful coating of white snow.
We thank all those who participated in the Children's Rosary "Patiently Waiting" Campaign. People sent us pictures with Patiently Waiting signs in their windows from Scotland, Ireland, England, Kenya and the USA. These signs can now be taken down and replaced with ones that read "Christ is Born." These can stay up for the whole Christmas Season.

We have a special gift from the Children's Rosary. A Christmas Mass was celebrated for all the members of the Children's Rosary and all who help the Children's Rosary at 8:00 p.m. on December 24.

Participate in the Day of the Little Candles December 7 2021

The Day of the Little Candles or Día de las Velitas is a custom practiced all over Colombia in honor of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. The way each state in Colombia celebrates the Day of the Little Candles varies according to the region.

On the evening of December 7th, lanterns are put in front of homes and in the streets with candles inside. There are processions to honor the Immaculate Conception.  They carry a statue of the Virgin Mary through the streets finishing at the Church where they end by saying the rosary.

Beginning in 2012 we have celebrated the Day of the Little Candles. We invite members of the Children's Rosary to also put out candles or lanterns in honor of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Here is a LINK of how to make the lanterns in English. Here is the LINK in Spanish.

Invitation to Everyone
We should note that the Patiently Waiting Campaign is an invitation to adults and children. One does not have to be involved with the Children's Rosary to participate.

The story behind the Patiently Waiting Campaign:
A number of years ago, I was walking past a home and in the window a sign read: Patiently Waiting.  It caught my attention.  Each time I walked past it each day I looked at it and was grateful for it. To see the sign made me happy inside. I wondered who put such a sign in their window.  Later I would find out it was a wonderfully holy priest.  After his passing, many shared how special this little sign was to them. It was so simple but it sent a ripple out into the community, a joyful one that is still moving in my heart years later even after the soul who placed it in his window has passed on.  This made me wonder, what if each of us put a sign in our windows?  What would be the effect...these speckles of love sprinkled all over the world. It was from this thought that the Patiently Waiting Campaign was born.

A Grandfather's Experience with the Children’s Rosary, Ireland

Recently, Ciarán O Riordan attended the Children’s Rosary with his grandchildren at the Church of the Ascension in Cork, Ireland. He shared his experiences during a virtual informational meeting about the Children’s Rosary.

It is absolutely beautiful what you are doing. Thank you so much for the grace you have sent us because it is needed so, so, so much. Without family prayer the church can do nothing really. There is nothing the priest can do or the bishops can do if the families aren’t praying.  Vatican II has taught us so much about the place of the lay person in the Church. I’m a married widower, but I have grandchildren, and my place is handing on the faith to those children and strengthening them. What a joy to see little children kneeling before our Blessed Lord praying our Blessed Mother’s Rosary. It’s such a beautiful thing, and children take to the Rosary like “ducks to water.” I have a grandson, and he’s like any other eight-year-old. He’s a little rough... you know what I mean. He was there, and the lady running the Rosary was anxious about whether they would be able to manage all the decades . . . they were delighted. They were able to manage all the decades and he wanted to do the readings as well and the meditations as well. It really encouraged him. They talk about “by their fruits you shall know them”. When he and his sister came home, the first thing they ran upstairs, and they started looking for their miraculous medals to put them back on - they had lost them as usual. Since that night, they’ve come to my house every night to pray the Rosary, and one of their uncles actually joined in with them to say a decade, and that is an absolute miracle. He joined in with the children to say the Rosary. That’s what you’ve done and that’s what you’re doing worldwide, and there is nothing, nothing as warm-hearted as that because the families are devastated, society is devastated, the schools are devastated, and the country is devastated. We must bring back the family Rosary and that’s what you’re doing, and thank you so much for what you’ve done.

Children's Rosary materials are now available to order in Ireland. To view entire collection carried through Silverstream Priory click HERE.

Meet the New Children's Rosary at Queen of Angels Bukalagi Parish, Uganda

We are excited to share that a new Children's Rosary group has begun at Queen of Angels Bukalagi Parish. This is within the Gomba District of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese in Uganda. Fr. Pius Asiimwe reported to us:

We started it on the 1st of October this year the feast of St Therese of the Child Jesus, to help attract the little children to the love of Jesus through His Mother the Blessed Virgin Mary. We started it small following the guidelines in our booklet about the Children's Rosary movement, and we were left with only registration by you. We now have a number of over 150 children on average who normally gather weekly to recite the Rosary at the Parish and after this we go before the Blessed Sacrament for Adoration.

Fr. Pius went on to explain, initially for the month of October the group used to meet two times a week that's Tuesday and Thursday at 4:00 pm. But now decided to meet once a week on Thursday at 4:00 pm.

We warmly welcome the children of the new Children's Rosary group at Queen of Angels Bukalagi Parish.

Join Us for the Novena of the Miraculous Medal: November 18-26th 2021

 O Immaculate Virgin Mary,

Mother of Our Lord Jesus and our Mother,
penetrated with the most lively confidence in your
all-powerful and never-failing intercession,
manifested so often through the Miraculous Medal,
we your loving and trustful children implore you to obtain for us the graces and favors we ask during this novena,
if they be beneficial to our immortal souls,
and the souls for whom we pray.

(Here mention your petitions *)

You know, O Mary, how often our souls have been
the sanctuaries of your Son who hates iniquity.
Obtain for us then a deep hatred of sin and that
purity of heart which will attach us to God alone so
that our every thought, word and deed may tend to
His greater glory.
Obtain for us also a spirit of prayer and self-denial
that we may recover by penance what we have lost
by sin and at length attain to that blessed abode
where you are the Queen of angels and of men.

Amen.
(source: EWTN)

The Children's Rosary would like to humbly invite you to join us in praying the Novena of the Miraculous Medal (November 18th -26th).
* In a special way may we pray for the intentions of Our Blessed Mother and a fulfillment of Her plans for each of us and the Children's Rosary prayer group movement. We pray for Peace, Peace Peace!  May God help us to put more miraculous medals in the hands of children. Amen.

A kind family sent the Children's Rosary 2,000 miraculous medals to share with children during our month long trip to East Africa in the summer of 2019. The children were so grateful to receive a miraculous medal. Unfortunately, we ran out of medals and many many children did not receive one. We pray God may open hearts to help us send more miraculous medals to not only the children in Kenya but other Children's Rosary groups throughout the world. The family that sent the 2,000 miraculous medals ordered them from St. Paul St. Evangelization.
If there are any souls who feel moved to send us miraculous medals to share with children please send them to:
Children's Rosary
PO Box 271743
West Hartford, CT 06127 USA

May God Bless you!
