A Crown for Our Lady

This week we received this beautiful picture of Scarlett-Maria, age 7, Crowning Our Lady. Scarlett-Maria is from Hale Barns, England, United Kingdom and is interested in starting a Children's Rosary prayer group at her parish.

We wanted to share this crowning as well as the one we held during our Children's Rosary prayer group last weekend at St. Thomas Church in West Hartford, Connecticut USA. The youngest child attending the Rosary was chosen to crown Our Lady. This was Ingrid.

Ingrid seemed very pleased with her efforts and looked at Our Lady with her crown of fresh flowers.
Families continued to be spread out in the chapel during the Rosary but we were very excited to be able to hold a procession and May Crowning.

Planting on the Feast of St. Isidore the Farmer

Some years ago a priest told me that he always planted his garden on May 15: the Feast of St. Isidore the Farmer. Living in Central Connecticut USA, we can have spring fronts that can kill tender plants. Thus to be safe, many wait until the mid May to plant. While we did some early spring planting of hardy veggies, today we planted our summer crops of winter and summer squash, peppers, cucumbers, basil, and swiss chard. We had started many plants from seed inside such as tomatoes. It was a very exciting day to plant in earnest. Since I have a disability with my joints that has left my hands unable to do gardening our kids help tremendously in the garden.

This year we have something new. It is an enclosure to keep out all the critters who traditionally take most of our yield. It is entirely enclosed.

We have named it "Our Lady's Victory Garden". We wanted to share some pictures of it and also the plants growing inside it and in our other garden beds. Along the center of the enclosure are grow bags full of garlic that have been growing since last fall. Along the back of the enclosure are several trellises. One has sugar snap peas and the other was just planted with cucumbers that will climb. Two of the long raised grow boxes have tomatoes, and peppers. The other two boxes have various other veggies including leeks, beets, snow peas, carrots and radishes. Along the side perimeter of the enclosure we have mounds of dirt where squash seeds were planted today. We also have another exciting addition this year. We have a bee hive within the enclosure. The box to contain the bees was painted last week and we anticipate a delivery of bees in the next two weeks. We are hopeful that the bees will help to pollinate all the flowers and vegetables in the yard.

Today was not only a planting day but also a harvest day. We picked our first "Easter Egg Radishes". These are named Easter Egg Radishes for the beautiful assortment of pale colors. These were part of our dinner tonight!

Many blessings on this beautiful feast of St. Isidore the Farmer.

Need Statue and Rosaries

This was the title of an email we received on May 3rd from a Children's Rosary group leader in Pakistan. Babu Chand informed us that two new Children's Rosary groups had formed; they were in need of rosaries, and one group requested a statue. At first I did not see that fulfilling his request for a statue was feasible. Yet two days later when we went to the Post Office box for the Children's Rosary a large box was waiting. We were surprised to find a large statue inside of Our Blessed Mother.

It seemed this statue was sent even before we received the email requesting one. The donation was beautifully providential. A donation has also been made to help with shipping costs, but we anticipate additional funds will be needed to ship the statue. If anyone is able to help us, please make donations electronically HERE.* Babu Chand sent a picture of the children in one of the new groups below. Since they do not have rosaries, he had them do drawings.

*Please note that we do not need purchased rosaries. We have many rosary makers that are helping supply us with the rosaries needed to send to groups. For those who want to help our efforts, please help with donations to help us ship materials. Thank you all very much for helping the children!

Join Us for a Novena to the Holy Spirit Beginning May 14, 2021

Dearest Holy Spirit, confiding in Your deep, personal love for me, I am making this novena for the following request, if it be Your Holy Will to grant it:(mention your request*).
Teach me, Divine Spirit, to know and seek my last end; grant me the holy fear of God; grant me true contrition and patience. Do not let me fall into sin. Give me an increase of faith, hope and charity, and bring forth in my soul all the virtues proper to my state in life.
Make me a faithful disciple of Jesus and an obedient child of the Church. Give me efficacious grace sufficient to keep the Commandments and to receive the Sacraments worthily.
Give me the four Cardinal Virtues, Your Seven Gifts, Your Twelve Fruits.
Raise me to perfection in the state of life to which You have called me and lead me through a happy death to everlasting life.
I ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
(novena obtained from EWTN website)
*May the Holy Spirit blow through our hearts, families, parish and the Children's Rosary as in the first Pentecost bringing us a renewed Spirit of prayer and love of God and neighbor.

The Friday after Ascension Thursday is the day Mary and the Apostles began the very first novena to the Holy Spirit.  May we too begin a novena calling down the Spirit to blow through our hearts, families, and parishes as in the first Pentecost bringing a renewed Spirit of prayer and love of God and neighbor.

On May 1st 2017 the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker and the first day of Our Lady's month of May, the Children's Rosary received a gift. EWTN featured the Children's Rosary on two shows. Nuestra Fe en Vivo aired a program on the Children's Rosary in Spanish. Host Pepe Alonso interviewed, Asher Kaufman age 10, a member of the Children's Rosary. If you have not had a chance to see this interview it is very special. The link is

Four Barrels of Rosaries Leave for Uganda!

On April 11th, the final day of our 18 day Anniversary Novena of Masses, four barrels were picked up in Connecticut. These contained 34,134 handmade rosaries and 400 Child Consecration books. The destination is Uganda. These will be received in Kampala by Fr. Jude Ssali and shared with five dioceses in Uganda where the Children's Rosary continues to grow and flourish. The barrels will have a long trip by shipping container, and they have an estimated arrival date in late August or early September.

The rosaries will help the growing number of Children's Rosary prayer groups in parishes and schools in Uganda. Below is a photo sent to us this month of the Children's Rosary at St. Aloysius Primary School in Masaka Diocese. This group meets daily to pray the Rosary. The picture was sent to us this month.

Currently, we have individuals who have made donations to cover the shipping costs for the first two barrels; however, we still are in need of donations to cover the shipping costs for the remaining two barrels.

The cost to purchase and ship one barrel along with taxes comes to $450.
We are also in need of donations to cover $1,400 in the printing costs to replenish the Consecration books that were included. Four hundred books were included in the barrels and each book can be used by a Children's Rosary prayer group or used to lead a school Consecration. In addition, we also included eighty Children's Rosary books in the barrels, which cost us $120. Each one of these is a seed for a new Children's Rosary group.

All of the rosaries included in the barrel were handmade. So much love is contained in these barrels. We are so grateful to all who have sent us handmade rosaries. For those who want to help, please do not purchase rosaries and send them. We have a steady supply of handmade rosaries arriving almost each day. The place where we are in need of urgent help is in covering the shipping and printing costs.

Ways to Help

In total, we are in need of  $2,420. We hope many will be a part of this glorious gift to Our Lady. With the month of May approaching, many may want to give a gift to Our Heavenly Mother. Helping to spread devotion to the Rosary among children is a perfect way to honor Mary!

In the United States, we also celebrate Mother's Day on May 9th. If individuals would like to give a gift in honor of their mother, we are happy to send a handwritten card sharing that a gift has been given to the Children's Rosary in honor of their mother.

Donations can be made electronically HERE.
Donations can also be mailed to:
Children's Rosary
PO Box 271743
West Hartford CT 06127 USA

If you would like to give a donation in honor of your mother, please send us an email. Write to Blythe at, and, on the subject heading, write: Donation for Mother's Day. In this way we can ensure the letter is sent in time for Mother's Day.

Children's Rosary Turns Ten!

The Children's Rosary turned ten on April 10th 2021. At the home parish of the Children's Rosary, St. Thomas the Apostle, we had our monthly Children's Rosary on Sunday.

We celebrated the Anniversary first by making special cupcakes decorated each with the number ten. These were given in little containers to the children and adults who attended the Children's Rosary.
We had a lovely Rosary led by the children. Children in turns helped to lead the prayers and they also helped in placing roses at the foot of Our Lady. Sean attended the Rosary. Many may remember Sean. He was in our theme song video. Kostin was leading him out of the Church as he is blind. It was very touching to see Kostin now significantly taller still helping Sean by taking a rose from him to place at Our Lady's feet at the end of the second decade.

Asher who was only 4 years old when the Children's Rosary began, had prepared something special for the day. He had learned to play our theme song "Rosary Children" on the guitar. Being rather self conscious as most 14 year olds are at that age, he waited to play the song for Our Lady after almost everyone had left the Church. It was a private gift from a child to his Heavenly Mother.
Our Anniversary novena of Masses continue. For nine days leading up to the anniversary Masses were said for the fulfillment of Our Lady's plans for the Children's Rosary. Thirty Masses were said in total for that intention. Starting on April 10th daily Masses were celebrated in thanksgiving. These will continue until April 18th. We anticipate 36 Masses to be celebrated in total in thanksgiving.

We thank God for the many blessings He has bestowed on the Children's Rosary. We also thank all of you who have helped in so many ways over these last ten years. May God bless you all.

Join Us in Praying the Divine Mercy Novena Beginning April 2 2021

Dear Friends,

Good Friday is the day that Jesus asked Saint Faustina that a 9 day novena to the Divine Mercy be initiated.  He gave her a different group of souls to pray for each day.  Along with those intentions the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is said as well. The novena leads up to Divine Mercy Sunday instituted by Pope John Paul II. Attached is a link to the Divine Mercy Novena and how to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

May the Children’s Rosary humbly ask that you include our intention with the intentions you are praying this Divine Mercy Novena. We wish for Our Lord to guide the Children's Rosary in the way that it most pleasing to Him as we continue forward.

Please remember that to become a member of the Children’s Rosary you only have to tell Our Lord in your heart of your desire to join us and then you will be included in all of these novenas and rosaries said daily. We thank you!

We are excited to share that we have a beautiful recording of the children leading the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.  We invite you to pray with them as you say your novena.

Members of the Children's Rosary from Kaka Basty are seen above in a long line leading a procession on Palm Sunday.

The Children's Rosary did a beautiful job leading a procession from Darwshky Church on Palm Sunday.

The Children's Rosary at Mansur Wali also met on Palm Sunday.
The Children's Rosary at St. Anthony Church in Kahnky Haed also prayed and had a procession on Palm Sunday.

We thank all the children for their leadership of the people from their respective Churches in processions through the streets.

7,865 Rosaries sent to Nigeria this Week

This week we have sent 16 boxes of handmade rosaries to Fr. Paul Miapkwap. He is the Director of the Catechetical Training Institute in Shendam, Plateau State Nigeria. He is photographed above in the center in white; his students are in purple. The students attend the school for two years to become catechists in their parishes. Students who attend are from 9 dioceses in Nigeria: Abuja, Jos, Pankshin, Shendam, Bauchi, Jalingo, Kafanchan, Lafiya and Kano dioceses.

Last June, 65 students graduated and received training in starting Children's Rosary prayer groups in their parishes. They also received a Children's Rosary book, parish welcome packet, and some rosaries. Currently, Fr. Paul has 90 students. Each of the future catechists in the program recently received a Child Consecration book to use in their parish. Fr. Paul is also leading the Consecration with the catechists using the Child Consecration book. He explained that they have almost completed the Consecration. Fr. Paul writes, "The Consecration to Jesus through Mary following in the Spirit of St. Therese, the Little Flower is a powerful prayer that should be said by all. I personally liked the prayer because each day I say it, it renews my spirit and I discover something new. I received the same sentiments from my students."

There were requests from the Catechists that they needed more rosaries to initiate Children's Rosary prayer groups in the parishes. Additionally, the Children's Rosary group at Our Lady of Fatima School in Shendam with approximately 700 pupils was in need of rosaries for the students. The school requested rosaries for the Children's Rosary. Therefore, we have sent a large number of rosaries to respond to this growing need. We plan to continue sending boxes of rosaries. With each box we send, we take a picture of the rosaries. Below you will see the contents of box one.

We also included a picture below of box sixteen.

If you would like to help by making a tax deductible donation to help these efforts click HERE.

Homiletic and Pastoral Review Features Child Consecration Book

An article by Bishop Keenan was recently published in the Homiletic and Pastoral Review. In the article Bishop Keenan shares his experiences leading his flock in a Consecration to Jesus through Mary using the book Child Consecration: To Jesus through Mary—Following in the Spirit of St. Thérèse, the Little Flower.

In the article Bishop Keenan shares:
"For myself, this Consecration was one of the loveliest experiences of my priesthood. Priesthood can be a lonely road at times and this Consecration has surrounded me with love from my flock. I would encourage priests, deacons, pastors and even bishops to help lead their flock in a Consecration to Jesus through Mary using this Child Consecration book. There is something of Heaven about this Consecration."

Spring Planting has Begun

Today is the first day of spring in the Northern hemisphere. We have been busy planting seeds and they have been on the warm radiators inside the house. The sun is getting stronger and one can see as soon as he seeds break through the soil they are already bending in toward the light.

In many ways, I see this light as the love of God and the tender plants in many ways resemble our little children.  Some people have asked, when should we introduce our children to Our Lord and prayer. I see these seedlings as providing the best answer: immediately. The hearts of children are yearning to know the love of God from their first moments. I once read in a book about St. John Paul II and also saw it mentioned again at the St. John Paul II museum in Washington, that when the saint was born his mother asked that the window immediately be opened so the first sounds he heard were the voices of people singing in honor of Our Lady.

Thus, I see great benefit to having Our Lord and Our Lady's names being praised in the space where young babies are being held such as in a nursery. Often parents have purchased our Children's Rosary CDs to play as they may be feeding their baby or the baby is resting in the crib. The CDs have young children praying the Rosary with soft music behind which is soothing to babies. It also protects the space through these prayers and surely brings fruits to have Our Lord being honored in the home. Later as the child grows and is playing in the room it still is wonderful to keep the Rosary playing. By the age of 3 we have regularly seen children praying the Rosary and even leading the Rosary in our Children's Rosary prayer groups.

For those interested in our Children's Rosary CDs they can be purchased through EWTN Religious Catalogue HERE. The CDs are also available through EWTN in Great Britain. To purchase click HERE.

As the spring unfolds keep checking back to see how the garden turns out this year. We are full of expectation and are hoping for a bountiful harvest.
