Children's Rosary Turns Ten!

The Children's Rosary turned ten on April 10th 2021. At the home parish of the Children's Rosary, St. Thomas the Apostle, we had our monthly Children's Rosary on Sunday. 

We celebrated the Anniversary first by making special cupcakes decorated each with the number ten. These were given in little containers to the children and adults who attended the Children's Rosary.  

We had a lovely Rosary led by the children. Children in turns helped to lead the prayers and they also helped in placing roses at the foot of Our Lady. Sean attended the Rosary. Many may remember Sean. He was in our theme song video. Kostin was leading him out of the Church as he is blind. It was very touching to see Kostin now significantly taller still helping Sean by taking a rose from him to place at Our Lady's feet at the end of the second decade. 

Asher who was only 4 years old when the Children's Rosary began, had prepared something special for the day. He had learned to play our theme song "Rosary Children" on the guitar. Being rather self conscious as most 14 year olds are at that age, he waited to play the song for Our Lady after almost everyone had left the Church. It was a private gift from a child to his Heavenly Mother. 

Our Anniversary novena of Masses continue. For nine days leading up to the anniversary Masses were said for the fulfillment of Our Lady's plans for the Children's Rosary. Thirty Masses were said in total for that intention. Starting on April 10th daily Masses were celebrated in thanksgiving. These will continue until April 18th. We anticipate 36 Masses to be celebrated in total in thanksgiving. 

We thank God for the many blessings He has bestowed on the Children's Rosary. We also thank all of you who have helped in so many ways over these last ten years. May God bless you all.

A kind family sent the Children's Rosary 2,000 miraculous medals to share with children during our month long trip to East Africa in the summer of 2019. The children were so grateful to receive a miraculous medal. Unfortunately, we ran out of medals and many many children did not receive one. We pray God may open hearts to help us send more miraculous medals to not only the children in Kenya but other Children's Rosary groups throughout the world. The family that sent the 2,000 miraculous medals ordered them from St. Paul St. Evangelization.

A Novena of Thanksgiving Comes to a Close

Tomorrow will conclude our 9 day Novena of Masses in thanksgiving. This is something we do every year following the Anniversary of the Children's Rosary on April 10th. Leading up to the anniversary on April 10th a 9 day Novena of Masses was completed for the fulfillment of Our Lady's plans for the Children's Rosary.

The novena of Thanksgiving is always a very special part of the 18 days of Masses. It helps to center oneself in a spirit of simplicity and trust. In thanking God we acknowledge that He is in control and knows the best for us. He gives what we need. Our role is to trust in His Providence. A priest once shared some advice with me early when the Children's Rosary began. He advised to not get out ahead of the Spirit but be ready when the Holy Spirit opens the door. Thinking of his words we try to always allow God to lead us. In this way we can glorify God as all is unfolding according to His Will and not our own. There are things we would like to see happen but God knows the best of it. Today we woke up to a surprise. There was a layer of clean white snow outside. This winter we saw very little snow and to have so much fall in April was a surprise. Yet as I was reflecting on prior years when we had this novena I was reminded that we also had snowfalls during the days of the novena. 

My mother has always said of snow that it is the poor man's fertilizer. It helps the plants through the winter. More snow is a good thing for the following years growing season and harvest. Perhaps one could see this snow as a signal grace. Our days of prayer and especially those of thanksgiving help us to cultivate spiritual fruits in our soul. Tomorrow is the last day of Masses. Four Masses will be celebrated in Thanksgiving. May we unify our prayers with those Masses and take some moments to thank God for the many blessings he has given not only to the Children's Rosary but to each of us. No matter what trial we may be under right now with the Coronavirus, one can always find blessings in each moment.

Novena for Christian Unity January 18-26th 2017

Novena for Christian Unity through the Intercession of Bl. Maria Gabriella  

God please hear our supplication through the intercession of Bl. Maria Gabriella for Christian unity. May each of us and the Children's Rosary be an instrument in Your hands to knit all that has been pulled apart into one tapestry of prayer, love and peace doing all according to Your holy Will. 

Remembering the words from Scripture when Our Lord prayed, "May all be one; even as You Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me". (John 17:21) Amen.

Please say 3 Glory Be prayers each day for 9 days accompanied by the prayer above.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins on January 18th 2017. We therefore thought it timely to pray in a special way for Christian Unity in a Novena.  As Bl. Gabriella dedicated her life for the intention of Christian Unity it seemed particularly special to pray through her intercession. 

A Rosary will be prayed each day of the novena before a first class relic of Bl. Gabriella for the intention above and for those individuals joining us in this novena. 

Bl. Gabriella was born in 1914 and died at the age of 25 in 1939.  She was beatified on January 25th by Pope John Paul II.

Novena to Servant of God Francis Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan of Vietnam

Recently Tran, one of our Children's Rosary group leaders in Bien Hoa City Vietnam, asked if we could invite, Servant of God Cardinal Francis Xavier, to be a member of the Children's Rosary. He hoped that we might add him to the list of Saints we have prayed to for our Children's Rosary intention. Cardinal Francis Xavier is well known in Vietnam but possibly less known in other parts of the world. Tran shared some of his background. His life is a beautiful example of love, mercy and sacrifice. Tran also shared that he has a second class relic of Servant of God Cardinal Francis Xavier. 

Tran wanted to invite others to join him in a nine day Novena to begin November first, the Feast of All Saints. He promised to pray before the relic of Cardinal Francis Xavier for the members of the Children's Rosary and also those joining in the Novena.  

This seemed a beautiful invitation from Tran who yet only 16 years old, has tried to both continue the Children's Rosary group in this parish and spread the Children's Rosary. This after the death of his beloved Pastor Fr. Augustine in August. Tran, following in the example of his late Pastor has shared prayers for the members of the Children's Rosary before many relics of saints. As the Children's Rosary grows and more individuals from other parts of the world join, we have the wonderful blessing to know of many saints that otherwise we might be unfamiliar with in our home countries.  How beautiful to have this sharing of faith. It was our hope to invite all the Saints in Heaven to be a part of the Children's Rosary and to intercede for us. Slowly we are trying to move toward that goal.

Background

Cardinal Francis Xavier was born in Vietnam on April 17, 1928. He was brought up in a Catholic home and was introduced the life of St. Therese of Lisieux by his mother when he was a child. He was ordained a priest in 1953. In 1975, on the Feast of the Assumption, he was detained and held in house arrest. Without a trial, he was taken to North Vietnam where he was imprisoned for his Religious beliefs. He spent 13 years in prison and 9 of which were in solitary confinement. He was released on the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lady. Despite the religious persecution he experienced he lived a spirit of forgiveness and preached reconciliation. In the year 2000 he was invited by Pope St. John Paul II to preach a Lenten retreat to the Curia. The Holy Father had a private audience with Cardinal Francis Xavier and gave him a chalice. Cardinal Francis Xavier said, "Twenty-four years ago, I said Mass with three drops of wine and one drop of water in the palm of my hand, I never would have thought that today the Holy Father would give me a gilt chalice. Our Lord is great indeed and so is his love”. Cardinal Francis Xavier died on September 16, 2002 in Rome.

To become a member of the Children's Rosary one only has to tell the Lord in their heart of their desire to be a part of our group.  You will then be included in all the novenas being said and all of the rosaries being prayed daily.

To Join the novena please say the prayer for Beatification above and the intention in bold for nine days. We will be starting the Novena on November 1, 2016 and concluding on November 9, 2016. However, if you are not able to begin with us on this date we still invite you to pray the Novena at a later date.
