"You are my friends"

This is part of the Gospel reading from today at Mass.  It goes on to say:

"No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you." (John 15:15)

It is so beautiful for our children to know they have a friend in Jesus.  Not only a friend but a best friend.  So often as parents we worry about our children.  We wonder what affect certain friends are having on them. It is so comforting to know that the time they spend in prayer will help to sanctify them and strengthen them.  This process of sanctification is explained beautifully by Bl Bartolo Longo: Just as two friends frequent in each other's company, tend to develop similar habits, so too, by holding familiar converse with Jesus and the Blessed Virgin, by meditation on the mysteries of the Rosary and by living the same life in Holy Communion, we can become, to the extent of our lowliness, similar to them and can learn from their supreme models a life of humility, poverty, hiddenness, patience  and perfection."
