New Children's Rosary to Meet on October 30th at Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Maracay, Venezuela

 

We welcome the new Children's Rosary group at Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Maracay, Venezuela. They will hold their first meeting on October 30th 2020 at 9AM local time. The children will be praying in Spanish. Please consider unifying in prayer with them. 

New Children's Rosary Christmas Card for 2020

Dear Friends,

We are excited to release our new Children's Rosary Christmas Card for 2020. This joins two other Children's Rosary Christmas cards currently available to order through EWTN Religious Catalogue.

Children Unite in Prayer During the Pandemic

The Children's Rosary is a prayer group movement where children meet together in Churches, schools or in orphanages to pray the Rosary. Since the pandemic has hit, many schools and Churches are closed. Yet the children are not blocked from picking up their rosaries. The Children's Rosary from the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Waterbury, Connecticut would have met at 3:30 PM today in the Church. With the current pandemic, the children could not meet together at the the Church to pray.  Yet, the children still knelt in prayer at 3:30 PM united from where they were. Five families who participate in the group united in prayer. 

Four families were in their homes and one family prayed outside at the Shrine of Lourdes in Litchfield, Connecticut. 

The children look forward to when they once again can meet together and pray but for now they are connected in prayer through the Rosary! We thank the children for their dedication to prayer. Our families and world are in so much need of the children's prayers. We hope these children will be an inspiration to other families and children to begin Children's Rosary prayer groups in their parishes and schools. Find out more at this: link.

This is the Next Generation!

Following up our visit to Kenya, a large box of rosaries was sent this fall to Fr. Wachira and Br. Cleophus. This has helped to start a Children's Rosary prayer group at an orphanage in Masimba, Kenya. The orphanage is named after St. Clare. There are 30 children who are participating in this new Children's Rosary. The group was launched on December 22nd 2019.

We thank those who send us handmade rosaries and have made donations that allow us to cover the shipping expenses to places such as Kenya. From the smiles you can see how excite the children are to receive their own Rosary. It is so hopeful to see the faith strengthening amongst the next generation.

Little Ones Becoming Leaders in Their Faith

On October 13th, our little Children's Rosary at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in West Hartford Connecticut, met. This is the home parish of the Children's Rosary. This is where the Children's Rosary began. Despite it being the home of the Children's Rosary, our group has at most had 20 children and often is much smaller with just a few children attending. We have seen repeatedly that numbers do not matter it is the faithfulness that God is asking of us. On October 13th, 4 children attended the Children's Rosary which included two of my own children. A little girl named Fiona (approximately 8 years old) and Peyton age 3 were there and pictured above.

Fiona's father shared with us that in her Spanish class they call her Fatima. Given it was October 13th, the anniversary of the miracle of the Sun in Fatima Portugal, we proceeded to call her Fatima for the remainder of the meeting.  Fatima took over the primary role of leading the prayers from the podium for our Children's Rosary. This was the first time Peyton, age 3, had come to the Children's Rosary. This appeared to be the first time she had prayed a Rosary.


Immediately we asked her to help by holding open the Children's Rosary book for Fatima so that she could look at the pictures of the mysteries as she led the prayers. It was a beautiful sight to behold. Little Peyton's eyes were the only thing seen over the book. She was so tiny yet so eager to help Fatima. She would periodically look at Fatima who was now taking a leadership role and serving as a model for Peyton. I could remember when Fatima, only a little over a year ago, was new to the Children's Rosary and was also learning from others. So quickly she had become a leader and was now guiding a younger one. Helping Peyton clearly made her happy and she was very excited to lead the adults in the pews in prayer. My older two children who were there kneeling around the altar have been guides for many children and now they too appreciated what was happening. Fatima whom they had helped was now helping a littler one and this gave us all great joy. One wonders how do we cultivate leaders in the Church. On October 13th Our Lady gave us a lesson. Start young, bring them together and put a Rosary in their hands. 

This past Sunday, November 10th, Peyton was back and she opened our Children's Rosary by doing the Sign of the Cross. She also was so proud she had learned part of our Children's Rosary theme song: Rosary Children. It hadn't taken long and already we were seeing a new leader at the tender age of 3!

Preparing a Soul to Receive Jesus for the First Time

It is an awesome task to prepare a soul to receive Jesus for the first time. The word awesome is being used in its original meaning not the slang meaning it has come to be associated. How does one adequately convey the grandeur of such a moment to a soul who may be as young as 7?

This month a photo was sent of two children who have been a part of the Children's Rosary for many years. They received First Holy Communion together but their mothers each lead Children's Rosary prayer groups at a different parishes. John's mom, Valerie, started one of our first Children's Rosary groups. It is located at St. Agnes Parish in Naples, Florida USA. Even though the family has moved to Ave Maria, Florida they have kept up their monthly Children's Rosary in Naples. When I asked Valerie how long John had participated in the Children's Rosary she said, "John's whole life!" 

Sara's mother, Veronica, is the group leader at Ave Maria Parish in Ave Maria, Florida. Sara has been participating in the Children's Rosary over the past 4 years. As I looked at the picture they sent, it harkened to images we have seen of Jacinta and Francisco of Fatima. Little Sara has a scapular around her neck. The two children hold a picture of the Body and Blood of Christ surrounded by a Rosary. It is interesting that the Rosary is drawing all the attention to the Eucharist. A second picture was sent. It provided the wide shot of the children. They were not simply standing by a wall they were beneath Our Blessed Mother. I am reminded of my own son, a member of the Children's Rosary.  At his First Holy Communion when we were walking to the car to leave he asked us to wait and he ran around the outside of the Church to a statue of Our Lady to see her.

It is remarkable that the children who are part of the Children's Rosary seem to be drawn to be close to their Heavenly Mother on such a day as their First Holy Communion. They have spent time in prayer of the Rosary. Fifty three Hail Mary's are said in each Rosary. Each Hail Mary asks for the prayers and intercession of Mary. In faith we know Our Lady hears those prayers. Surely when these sweet children ask for Her prayers She does pray for them. For Sara and John, the majority of their life they have prayed the Rosary regularly in their Children's Rosary prayer group. Surely this time helps in the preparation for a soul to receive Our Lord.  It is a great comfort, as a parent, to see Our Lady watching over the preparation of our children to receive Our Lord for the first time. Our Lady, known also by the title Seat Of Wisdom, knows the best way to prepare a tender soul. We are so grateful Blessed Mother for your assistance for such an important task as preparing a young soul to receive Jesus for the first time. Thank you.

Divine Mercy Sunday 2019

Dear Friends,
Today we had a special Divine Mercy Event at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in West Hartford, Connecticut USA. This is the parish where the Children's Rosary first began. The organizers of the Divine Mercy Event invited the Children's Rosary to lead the Rosary.

One of the intentions that was mentioned aloud before beginning the Rosary was for all the members of the Children's Rosary. A first class relic of St. Faustina was present for the Event. While touching the relic in a special way I prayed for the members of the Children's Rosary. Please know you were remembered today in prayer. One of the very special blessings of the day was the grace of having the children lead the prayers in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

A School Principal's Experience with the Children's Rosary

Recently, I was able to speak to Principal Wright about his experiences with the Children's Rosary at his school: St. Francis Xavier in Birmingham, Alabama USA. They held their first Children's Rosary in May of 2017. The school has chosen to hold their Children's Rosary each Friday at 2:30 PM. The children all meet in their respective classrooms at 2:30. Over the intercom a group of children lead and then all the children respond. They rotate who leads each week. The children taking turns at the end of each decade, placing paper flowers they have made before an image of Our Lady as a teacher asks for the fruit of that mystery. In October and May the children often come together outside for a Children's Rosary before a statue of Our Lady.

Principal Wright was able to share some of the benefits he has seen since beginning a Children's Rosary in his school.
"Our school's participation in the Children's Rosary has had a significant influence on the direction and culture of our school.  Our school has become more peaceful and focused on Jesus, as the Blessed Mother changes hearts and gently directs our desires towards greater devotion to her Son."

Principal Wright liked having the children of his school all meet at the same time to pray each week. He explained, "I feel it is very important to have the children all praying at the same time in the classrooms. They are little prayer groups and yet one unified voice together."

When asked if he thought there is a benefit to participating in an international prayer group movement compared to an individual school implementing the Rosary?
Principal Wright responded, "The Children's Rosary is unique for three reasons: the Children's Rosary's promotes children praying the rosary for themselves, it's a prayer movement that unites children together all over the world in prayer together, and it models praying the rosary with reverence, devotion, and beauty."
Twice a month a Children's Rosary in Fairbanks, Alaska USA holds their Children's Rosary at the same time as the school in Birmingham, Alabama. This has been a special experience for the children. Both groups know they are unifying prayers. 
Principal Wright also mentioned,
"One of the things I very much like about the Children’s Rosary is that it is child led. This is important because the children take the leadership role. When they go home they are comfortable leading a Rosary and can lead their family in prayer."

We are very grateful to Principal Wright for sharing his experiences. While St. Francis Xavier has their Children's Rosary weekly during the school day there is flexibility in implementing the Children's Rosary on a monthly or even daily schedule. Some schools have chosen to meet together monthly prior to a first Friday Mass for example. Some groups may not be able to meet during the school day and for them meetings before or after school are an option. We did want to share the experiences of St. Francis Xavier school as it seems to be an implementation that has worked very well. The addition of using an intercom may also not be possible in some schools but for others they may like to use it.

A Sea of Daisies

Looking at this sea of daisies, one could think of the many pure souls of children who pray in Children's Rosary prayer groups throughout the world. They are beautiful on their own but when you put them together: breathtaking!

Recently we had an opportunity to try our hand at writing poetry...haiku to be specific. This is a Japanese form of poetry that is short, containing only three verses. The first verse has 5 syllables, the second  7 and the last 5. 
These haiku poems shown below were written by two different members of the Children's Rosary. 

The Children's Rosary was the inspiration for both:

We are kids praying

from each corner of the globe.

Many, yet one voice

Children in Christ's Heart

Praying together as one

Fill the earth with love.

A Beautiful Way to Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy with Children

We would like to share a Chaplet of Divine Mercy recorded by two members of the Children's Rosary. This can be heard free on our website HERE.

May I humbly share the background of this recording. Once a month members of the Children's Rosary lead a LIVE Rosary on Radio Maria Radio. The children are also asked to lead a Chaplet of Divine Mercy. My small role in the hour is to introduce various parts. Month after month I would listen to these two young girls leading the Chaplet. It was one of the most moving versions of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy I have heard. It was so precious to hear little Emily, age 6, with her pleading voice saying, "Have mercy on us and on the whole world". 

As time has a way of moving very fast, we felt that before such a precious moment was lost we should record these two sweet girls praying the Chaplet.  This version of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is available on our website.

Permission for the audio recording of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy was granted by the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Children Reaching Out to Other Children

As tomorrow is July 13th it seemed timely to share these pictures from our Children's Rosary group at Malaybalay Parish Cathedral in the Philippines.  The pictures were taken on May 13 2017. 

The groups leader shares:
"The children brought the Fatima icon to the Monobo tribe children evacuees and taught them how to pray the Rosary". Several other organizations contributed food to feed some 300 children and their parents. 

After the feeding had taken place the Children's Rosary group leader shared, "the Manobo children put Mama Mary on the sidewalk, lighted candles and pray the Rosary. The Rosary prayer was led by the 3 Manobo older children"

It is special to see the children from the Children's Rosary at the Malaybalay Parish Cathedral reaching out to the Manobo children. Recently Pope Francis in a document entitled the Missionary Pastoral Care with Children invites children to have an active role in evangelization. He writes, "This missionary service is carried out through the protagonist role of the children themselves. Jesus himself is the one who has given them a very important mission in the Church and the World."

Please keep these children in your prayers.  They hope to be able to form a Children's Rosary at San Fernando Parish as soon as peace is attained in their area and they are able to return home.

A Journey to Bring the Baby Jesus to the Children

On the evening of the Feast of the Holy Family, Tran set out on bicycle to bring the baby Jesus to the children in Suoi Sao orphanage. The distance was far but he wanted to bring the Baby Jesus to them. He knew they would be gathering soon for their Children's Rosary at 7PM local time as they do each evening. 

It was already dark and much of the road was rough and bumpy.  The children did not know Tran was coming. But they had many lights set up to decorate their orphanage for Christmas.  To their surprise Tran arrived with the baby Jesus. 

The Baby had made the trip safely placed in hay in a basket.  Quickly candles were set up to lead to the place where they laid Him. 

The children took turns coming to tuck their intentions on slips of paper under the Baby Jesus. 

They knelt in prayer of the Rosary as they do each night in their Children's Rosary prayer group. Though tonight was special. They were all gathered around Our Lord. There was a special icon of the Holy Family near them.  In the dark they prayed. The children brought roses to place before the Baby Jesus. 

Then each received several prayer cards as gifts. These had been sent in the box carrying the Baby Jesus. None knew that Our Lord had arrived with considerable damage.  All had been healed and put back together. Tran's grandmother was very kind to take a piece of cloth and sew a little outfit for the Baby Jesus that concealed all the cracks from when he lay in pieces.  Indeed to the children He was perfect. They took turns kissing him as he lay on his bed of hay. 

Some of the girls scooped him up and held Him...smiling as you see this little one doing. 

What joy must be in the heart of Our Lord to see such innocent little children tenderly caring for him. Treasuring the special time on the beautiful Feast of the Holy Family.  These children have no parents they are orphans.  Tran shares that for these children Our Blessed Mother is the mother they do not have now. So for them She is so very important to them. Their love is growing always stronger as they continue to pray.  Tran wishes the children could have parents here but through prayer they find love.

A Window to the World Through Prayer

Good news the package sent to Tran and the two new Children's Rosary groups in Vietnam arrived!  In the evening Tran brought the rosaries and brought the Statue of Our Lady to accompany him for the visit.  The statue was one we had sent some time ago for the groups.  

Tran wrote, "the children there are happy and the kids are free to choose a rosary that they love."  He included some pictures, one of two children looking very carefully at pictures of some of the other Children's Rosary groups around the world.  As children are known to do, they seem to be studying every detail of each picture, flipping from one picture to the next.  One picture that the children settled on shows one of the children from the United States with rosaries all around him as he gathers them together to send out in the mail.  

I began to wonder what was going through the minds and hearts of these little ones as they looked at the pictures. In prayer I began to imagine these little ones who may wonder what is outside their orphanage in other parts of the world.  This orphanage has no Internet so there would be no looking at computers.  Instead, these pictures are their window to know what is out in the world.  Might Our Lady smile, to see the window to the world was one that showed them prayer.

Tran explained that as he was leaving with the statue of Our Lady of Fatima, the children asked to say goodbye to Mary.  

The children also asked if they could kiss her. Tran writes, "the children have embraced Mary with all [their] hearts." 
Indeed, I hope these pictures are a window for other children looking at them of the love and prayer that is growing in children around the world.
