Exploring Lancaster

This week we are at the Catholic Marketing Network Trade Show in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We came in a few days early and have been exploring the city and visiting many beautiful Churches here. We have been able to attend Mass in Spanish at San Juan Bautista Parish.

St. Joseph Church has a Perpetual Adoration Chapel that we were able to visit. I prayed for all the members of the Children's Rosary there today.

We were again able to attend Mass at Historic St. Mary's Church at noon today. St. Mary's Church is shown below. We have been able to meet individuals and families at the different churches. We have been leaving little seeds as we go...sharing copies of the Children's Rosary book. The Gospel today about the mustard seed seemed particularly fitting. Yet, we know that seeds without water will not grow so we try to couple all our visits with lots of prayer. We ask for your prayers as well that these seeds will take root in these beautiful parishes.

God bless you all.

Rosaries are on their way to Kenya

This past week we were able to send a package containing 444 Rosaries to Kenya. The photo below was taken in the winter of children who have wanted to start a Children's Rosary group but needed rosaries. We were excited to be able to send the large box this week which also included 30 Children's Rosary books.

Visit to the Catholic Marketing Network Trade Show

We arrived Saturday July 28th in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This is the site of the annual Catholic Marketing Network Trade Show. This is the 5th year the Children's Rosary will have a booth at the trade show.  The Children's Rosary has been asked to lead a Rosary at the conference at the following times:
Wednesday at 7AM
Thursday  5:00 PM
Friday at 7AM
If there are children in the area that would like to help us with the Rosary please let us know by emailing Blythe at the following address:  blythe@childrensrosary.org

In anticipation for the trip we have been praying that Our Lady would be our travel agent...that she will guide each part of the week. We began to see her hand at work from the time we left our house. We left much later then we thought for the 5 hour drive. The unabridged reading of Oliver Twist was playing in the car save for a break when we prayed the Rosary.  Just a few moments before reaching the hotel the audio book concluded. The timing seemed so perfect. This was an audio book that has 13 discs with many many hours of reading. We have been listening at various times for the past month. We had no idea when it would end yet it concluded within 5 minutes of our hotel. As we pulled up to the hotel we saw it was 6:01. This was the time of the evening Angelus.  Yes, we could see Our Lady was arranging each detail and letting us know it was her planning it.

When we got to our rooms, we could see with a perfect view St. Mary's Church just a few blocks away.
This morning we were able to go to Mass at St. Mary's Church. It was glorious inside. We have included a picture below and hope to take more photos this week as we attend Mass there. Please know you are in our prayers during this trip. We humbly ask for your prayers as well.

Mass Offered for Members of the Children's Rosary on July 25th 2018

A Mass was offered today for all the members of the Children's Rosary and all who help the Children's Rosary.  We continue to have a Mass said for the this intention on the 25th of each month. The Eucharist is such a powerful gift from Our Lord that when I wanted to extend thanksgiving to all of you I knew of no better way to express my gratitude.  May Our Lord's love be poured down on all of you through the powerful sacrifice of the Holy Mass.
The picture above was a recent picture sent to us from one of the Children's Rosary groups in Pakistan.

New Children's Rosary in Parish Named After St. Charbel

On the Feast of St. Charbel Makhlouf, Maronite priest and monk, we are excited to share that there is a new Children's Rosary in a parish named after St. Charbel. The new group has formed in Australia in a Maronite Parish. Their first meeting was scheduled for July 21st 2018.

The group leader shared that her children normally pray the Rosary in Aramaic, Arabic, French, Latin and English...saying a decade in each of the respective languages.

This is the first Children's Rosary in a Maronite Parish. We welcome the children of this new group.

Children's Rosary at St. Jude Parish

We would like to share these pictures we received from the Children' s Rosary at St. Jude Parish in Lukaya, Uganda. They held their first meeting on August 5th 2017. The children above are new members to the group. They each were given their own handmade rosary that we sent. The total group size has grown over the past year to 180 children. They meet twice a week on Mondays and Sundays from 4-5:30 PM local time.

Please keep these children and their parish in your prayers. They are trying to finish building their church which has been under construction for 14 years.

Feast of St. Kateri Tekakwitha

Today, July 14th, is the Feast of St. Kateri "Lily of the Mohawks". Last summer our family was able to visit the National Shrine of St. Kateri. We visited her village and also went to the stream where she was baptized. We have a small container of the water from this same stream. We prayed a Rosary during our visit at the National Shrine including in our intentions all the members of the Children's Rosary and all who help the Children's Rosary.

It is interesting how the saints can become our friends. The more we learn about them and ask for the help the more it seems we are reminded of them through other people. Recently, we became friends with a priest who has started a hermitage named after St. Tekakwitha.

We consider St. Kateri a dear friend of the Children's Rosary and continue to ask for her help and intercession. Today we brought a little third class relic of St. Kateri to our Children's Rosary at St. Peter Claver in West Hartford, Connecticut. We put the little relic before the children as they prayed. We prayed in a special way for all the members of the Children's Rosary and all who help the Children's Rosary.

For those who do not know this humble saint who died at the young age of 24 a brief biography is provided below. We hope to introduce her to others, especially children as she is a beautiful witness of love and faith despite extremely difficult situations. The miracle that helped her progress in the path to sainthood involved a child who had a flesh eating infection of his face. As Saint Kateri had terrible scars on her face from small pox she would have understood in a deeply personal way the affliction of a disease affecting the skin of one's face.

Background
Kateri was born in 1656 in a town near Auriesville New York.  She was the daughter of a Mohawk warrior and a Christian Algonquin mother.  Both of her parents died when she was 4. Her life in many ways reflects that of St. Teresa the Little Flower who also lost her mother at the age of 4 and like Kateri died at the age of 24.  Kateri’s parents both died of small pox. Kateri also contracted the disease but survived but her face was left disfigured. She was often seen with a blanket over her head to hide her face.

Kateri was baptized as a teenager and was rejected by her tribe.  She courageously left her home and moved to a region near Montreal, Canada. Kateri remained devoted to both the Eucharist and Christ Crucified.  She would wait outside the chapel at 4 in the morning despite bitter cold and stayed until after the last Mass.  She was committed to the care of the sick and aged.  She also took a vow of virginity at the age of 23 an unprecedented act for an Indian women.
Kateri was the first Native American to be Beatified.  Pope John Paul II Beatified her in 1980 and on Oct 21st 2012 she was canonized by Pope Benedict the XVI.

Mass Offered on July 7th 2018 for Renewal of Family Prayer

A Mass was offered on Saturday July 7th for Renewal of Family Prayer. This is something we do on the first Saturday of every month. The children also pray for renewal of family prayer in their prayer groups. In addition, over 800 individual 9 day novenas have been said by members oft the Children's Rosary to different saints also asking for renewal of family prayer.  Why so much attention and prayer for this topic?  The Children's Rosary is not an intercessory prayer group, meaning its purpose is not to pray for intentions, rather it is a prayer group for children which helps support their prayer lives. Yet, one cannot ignore the importance of prayer in the family.  Saints throughout history have championed prayer in the family.  The famous saying coined by Venerable Fr. Patrick Peyton summaries it so beautifully, "The family that prays together stays together". And so to keep and strengthen our families we pray for them. We hope that the prayer the children experience in their prayer groups will blossom into a richer prayer life in their homes.  Many members of the Children's Rosary have shared how this is happening in their families.
The pictures above and below were recently taken during a Children's Rosary meeting in a Church in Ugu Chak, Pakistan.

Happy Feast of St. Maria Goretti!

Recently, we received this picture of one of the children who is part of the Children's Rosary. She is three years old. The Children's Rosary group she belongs to meets three times a week in Texas. Her mother who is the group leader shared this picture of her three year old daughter praying in a Church they were visiting named after St. Maria Goretti. Her little daughter, only three years old, was praying for her older brother in the picture. Her older brother is 22 years old and like anyone his age, surely could use prayers, especially from his sister.

In looking at this picture, there was something incredibly special about seeing a little child praying for her older brother. As our children enter the world and leave the home they need a great deal of prayer. Who better to cover them in prayers then their younger siblings. This little one isn't even tall enough to see over the kneeler and yet who is before her but the Child Jesus. She is in a Church named after a Saint who was martyred to preserve the virtue of purity. Indeed Saint Maria Goretti is a fitting saint to celebrate the innocent and the value of their prayers.

The Children's Rosary Turns Two in Vietnam

June 24th 2018 was the two year anniversary of the first meeting of the Children's Rosary in Vietnam. There has been a beautiful unfolding of new groups in the country over the past two years. Leading the spread of the new groups has been a group of dynamic and very prayerful young people including Tran who helped to begin the first group at the age of 16.  On June 28th 2018 a special Mass in honor of the Children's Rosary was celebrated by Father Dominic Khang at St. Martin's Sanctuary. Individuals who have helped the Children's Rosary in Vietnam were there. One person even flew in for the Mass. In a special way during the Mass, they remembered Sister Dang who ran a Children's Rosary at Bui Chu orphanage prior to her passing. The children continue to meet at Bui Chu orphanage.

In honor of the anniversary a rosary made out of small cakes. This can be seen on a table in the two pictures above.  We thank all those in Vietnam who have helped with the Children's Rosary.
May God bless you all.
