Bringing Our Crosses to Our Lord

At the beginning of Lent our Pastor invited parishioners to construct a cross at home and bring it to the Church to be placed on the left or right of the Altar. He encouraged us to bring our crosses to Our Lord both the physical one and also our spiritual crosses.

He shared that this was a Lithuanian tradition of building crosses. On a recent trip to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Asher and I were able to see an altar that had an image of those crosses in Lithuania.
My older son, Kostin, who loves to construct things was so excited to respond to the invitation from our Pastor. The next Saturday a few crosses appeared at the Church. The cross the Pastor made was in the center (second picture from the top). Our cross was to the left (also shown in the top picture). After constructing the first cross, I began to see Kostin gathering materials on our walks from Mass. Pieces of bark and sticks began appearing in a pile by the back door. I could see his mind was working on another cross. As Lent progressed more crosses appeared beside the altar brought by different families (see below).

The larger cross also began to take shape in our backyard. This Scripture quote comes to mind:

"Come to me, all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)

This Good Friday I found myself sick with the flu. My son Asher could see I was suffering. He asked what can I do? I said, "just be with me". Then I looked at the cross. I could understand how Our Lord just wants us to be with Him..to rest with Him in our suffering. He too in His suffering did not want to be alone.

No words were necessary from my son only his presence next to me. This was an incredible comfort. From his presence I understood more deeply how Our Lord wishes us to be with Him in the quiet.  In this experience, I more deeply understood Our Lord's desire to have us close. Not for speaking in these moments but simply being with Him in silence.

Divine Mercy Novena Begins March 30th 2018

Dear Friends,

Good Friday is the day that Jesus asked Saint Faustina that a 9 day novena to the Divine Mercy be initiated.  He gave her a different group of souls to pray for each day.  Along with those intentions the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is said as well. The novena leads up to Divine Mercy Sunday instituted by Pope John Paul II. Attached is a link to the Divine Mercy Novena and how to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

May the Children’s Rosary humbly ask that you include our intention with the intentions you are praying this Divine Mercy Novena.  Please remember that to become a member of the Children’s Rosary you only have to tell Our Lord in your heart of your desire to join us and then you will be included in all of these novenas and rosaries said daily. We thank you!

Intention:

MAY THE CHILDREN’S ROSARY, THEIR FAMILIES, THOSE ASSOCIATED WITH THE CHILDREN’S ROSARY INCLUDING OUR PRIESTS, OUR BISHOP AND OUR HOLY FATHER THE POPE BE THE EXTENDED HANDS OF OUR BLESSED MOTHER AND HER SON. MAY WE GATHER A GREAT MANY SOULS ESPECIALLY YOUNG PEOPLE FOR THE LORD.  MAY WE EXPERIENCE RENEWAL OF FAMILY PRAYER AND SPREAD IT ACROSS THE GLOBE. MAY A GREAT MANY PEOPLE BE BROUGHT TO OUR CHILDREN'S ROSARY THAT WE MAY BLANKET THE EARTH WITH PEOPLE WANTING TO BE THE EXTENDED HANDS OF MARY AND JESUS. AMEN

We are excited to share that we have a recording of the children leading the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.  We invite you to pray with them as you say your novena.

The Children Share Their Traditions in Uganda

We received these pictures from the Children's Rosary at St. Jude Parish in Lukaya, Uganda. The message read: "That's how palm Sunday was celebrated by our children".

May all the members of the Children's Rosary have a blessed Holy Thursday!

Let Us Go Out to the Countryside to See the Children.

We wanted to continue to share pictures from different Children's Rosary groups in Pakistan.

Many Children's Rosary groups met on Palm Sunday to hold processions through their cities and in some cases some villages in Pakistan. The pictures shown here are from the Children's Rosary in Thata Bsau, Pakistan. While other groups had larger numbers joining them on their procession this smaller Children's Rosary group took palms and flowers in hand and went out to witness their faith. There is a beauty to what they did.

Mass Offered on March 25th 2018 for Members of the Children's Rosary

A Mass was offered today for all the members of the Children's Rosary and all who help the Children's Rosary.  We continue to have a Mass said for the this intention on the 25th of each month. Today is particularly special as it is both Palm Sunday and the Feast of the Annunciation.

Nine months from today we will celebrate Christmas!  Interestingly after our Patiently Waiting campaign this past year we placed a sign in our window on Christmas reading Christ is born. We were planning to take it down on the Feast of the Presentation. But as our windows are older and the ability to access the sign was difficult, it remained in our window much longer. Interestingly, last night my daughter was able to get it open to retrieve the sign. Today it occurred to me that the fact the sign came down last night was in some ways appropriate.

For those of you who like to participate in the 9 month novena for impossible requests it starts today. A link to the prayers is HERE. This is a annual favorite of mine.

Also I hope you enjoy the pictures of the Crosses made of Palms. These were Kostin's creations. Over the years they have become more sophisticated. He is self taught. His sister assisted in the braided one seen below.

Palm Sunday Procession in Pakistan 2018

This morning we received these pictures from the Children's Rosary in Ugu Chak Pakistan.

People threw rose pedals as the procession moved through the streets.

The children carried palms and also carried flags with the Children's Rosary logo.

Some of the children did readings along the procession.

Other children added interesting decorations to their dress such as greens tied around their wastes.

It is beautiful to see the Children's Rosary groups sharing the richness of their culture.

There were many pictures to share but this one with the little boy with his head bent in prayer seemed to capture a tender moment.

We thank the Children's Rosary in Ugu Chak for sharing these moments with us. One realizes how Our Lady and Our Lord are weaving a beautiful tapestry of prayer through the children. With Rosaries in hand, they pray and witness in a sweet and gentle way their faith to those around them.

The Joys of Snow!

We just celebrated the first day of spring yesterday and today we are experiencing our forth Nor'easter in three weeks in Connecticut USA. While many are eagerly awaiting spring weather, the extra snow has brought great joy for children in the area. Recently our kids discovered sledding. During a recent snow storm, our youngest son was able to venture out for his second time sledding in his life. His excitement almost could not be contained as he bounded out of the house with his dad. Together they each carried a sled. One had the round disc the other a toboggan. Once at their destination, they found it deserted. As the storm was intensifying no one was there. They had the favorite sledding spot in our town all to themselves. The little sequence below was a sledding run that was made by Asher.  By the time they were leaving another family was arriving. The snow storm grew stronger and stronger and by the time they had walked home they were encased in snow. Their cheeks bright pink from the biting wind. But the joy was not over. There was the fun of defrosting and hanging up the wet clothes and jackets by the fire. Indeed, Our Lord shares simple pleasures with the children.

Ready set go.....

Anniversary Celebration on Divine Mercy Sunday

If you live near Connecticut USA please join us on April 8th at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in West Hartford. This is the Parish where the Children's Rosary began. We will hold our monthly Children's Rosary meeting at 9:45 AM in the lower church. Mass will follow the Children's Rosary upstairs at 10:30 AM. Following Mass there will be a brunch in the parish center to celebrate the 7th anniversary of the Children's Rosary. We will have an activity during brunch where individuals and children can learn how to make a Rosary. We are grateful to Our Lady's Rosary Makers who has donated materials to make the Rosaries. Those attending can keep the rosaries or there will be an opportunity to send them to Children's Rosary groups in need of rosaries.

Hope to see you there!

Anniversary Novena of Masses begins April 1st 2018

Dear Friends

The seven year anniversary of the first meeting of the Children's Rosary is on April 10th 2018. We have made it an annual tradition to offer a novena of Masses for the 9 days prior to the anniversary for the fulfillment of Our Lady's plans for the Children's Rosary. We then follow this with 9 days of Masses in thanksgiving. The support for this effort has always been strong and for the past several years we were able to have two Masses offered on each of the 18 days. We hope to offer three Masses each day this year if possible.

There is something beautiful about starting our novena on Easter. After the period of Lent, where we have sought to purify ourselves through prayer and fasting, we then, with the graces that come through the many Masses said for Our Lady's plans, are able to be put to work in the vineyard of Our Lord. By offering Masses for the fulfillment of Our Lady's plans for the Children's Rosary, Our Lady's plans for each of us are included within this as we make up the Children's Rosary. With all things, this intense time of prayer is concluded with thanksgiving.

If you would like to sponsor a Mass, please email me at blythe@childrensrosary.org. If there is a particular date you would like to sponsor, please let me know. If you would like to request a Mass be said at your Parish or another location this is wonderful as well.

April 1-9: Fulfillment of Our Lady's Plans for the Children's Rosary
April 10th-18th: Thanksgiving

Your Friend in Christ,
Blythe

How young is too young to attend a Children's Rosary?

Today we had a special treat. One of our regular families in our Children's Rosary group  brought their youngest child, Ingrid. She is just 20 months old. Ingrid's older sister who is 10 and older brother Timmy who is 8 were also there. Two of my children were present as well for the Children's Rosary. As soon as we saw Ingrid come in everyone had smiles on their faces. Her little voice was so sweet. She watched very carefully how the children knelt around the altar to pray and took turns leading at the podium. While she did not kneel down she did join her brother standing at the stool at the podium. Just a few tufts of hair could be seen extending above the podium but just the sight of that little bit of hair brought a smile to my face and heart. At the end of the decades, we have a tradition in the Children's Rosary to ask a child to place a rose before Our Blessed Mother. When I asked Ingrid she came over and with the assistance from her mother placed a rose before Our Blessed Mother.

Even when I asked Ingrid's sister to place a rose she turned and called to her sister to help. Ingrid had infused so much joy in our Rosary today. I was so grateful to have her there. I could not help but think of her little soul. A fertile soil for the Lord to plant His seeds. How happy must Our Lady and Our Lord be to see these tender ones coming to spend time with Them. The children were taking so much joy in placing roses today instead of offering just one flower at the end of each decade we asked several children at a time until all our flowers were piled before Our Lady. As March is dedicated to St. Joseph my son Kostin had brought the statue we have in the Chapel of St. Joseph and the Baby Jesus before the children. Ingrid very much enjoyed touching baby Jesus and St. Joseph. Her father was in the pews watching and praying and the figure of St. Joseph in the Holy Family was a wonderful addition today.

Over time I have come to see that there is no child too young to come to a Children's Rosary. While our book says a target age range of 4-14. We welcome the littler ones, too. A baby in the arms of her mother hears the prayers and can receive grace flowing from a Children's Rosary. There is modeling that occurs during those tender years. There is an eagerness to learn and be a part of what the older children are doing. Likewise for the older children, having a child that needs their help is rewarding to them. They feel needed and this engages them in the Rosary in a special way.  Indeed there is something beautiful about a group of children of different ages praying together. They are like a bouquet of wild flowers. The little tiny delicate ones are just as beautiful as the big sunflowers. Such it is with our children.

Novena to St. Joseph Begins Today

O St. Joseph whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the Throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires. O St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; so that having engaged here below your Heavenly power I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most Loving of Fathers. O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me, and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath.

St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for us. Amen

The Feast of St. Joseph is March 19th.  In anticipation of this Feast we would like to pray over the next 9 days to St. Joseph for his powerful intercession especially for our families. We would also like to ask for his protection and guidance of the Children's Rosary. As he so beautifully nurtured and cared for the Holy Family we pray he will watch and care for all of us.  Thank you all for joining the novena and may God Bless you. Amen.
The picture above was drawn by a 13 year old boy who is a member of the Children's Rosary and who also has a strong devotion to St. Joseph.

To Togo Via Switzerland

Sometimes the most direct way to a place is not a straight line. This past year we have been in contact with a gentlemen from Switzerland that does Mission trips to Togo. He is multi-lingual. He asked for rosaries and Children's Rosary books in French for an upcoming trip. The local Bishop had invited him to work with the children and he hoped to introduce them to the Children's Rosary. A box was prepared and the materials packed. I would like to thank in a special way the many people who have sent us handmade Rosaries. We also greatly appreciate the donations that allow us to continue this work.

The box was sent in January and we are happy to report it reached Switzerland! Some of the materials we sent are being shared in the town of Loreto, Switzerland and some will be going on to Togo. I like to imagine as the materials zig zag across the globe, indeed they leave a trail of new groups praying. We will keep you updated with news from Togo as it becomes available.

God Bless You All.

Cuaresma 2018

Queridos Amigos,

¿Qué padre no querría conceder tal pedido?

Additional Ideas for Lent 2018

Stations of the Cross
Plan an evening for the children of your Children's Rosary group to lead the Stations of the Cross at your Parish. At our parish of St. Thomas for example, the Stations of the Cross are led several Fridays in Lent. For a number of years members of the Children's Rosary have helped to lead the Stations of the Cross for one of the Friday evenings during Lent. Recently, we received the picture above from one of our Children's Rosary groups in Pakistan. This was taken in 2018 while they were praying the Stations of the Cross.
One of the things we noticed while leading the Stations was that it is nice to have music to accompany the Stations of the Cross. For this reason we included the song "At the Cross Her Stations Keeping" on our Sorrowful Mysteries CD. This could be played during the Stations of the Cross. More information is available on how to order the Sorrowful CD HERE.
Almsgiving
Consider making a donation to the Children's Rosary. There is great spiritual hunger in the world. This Lent help us to reach those souls especially the little ones. We send Rosaries and Children's Rosary materials to six continents.
Add Your Light
Consider being a core light on our View from Heaven map. If there is a time each day you can "join in prayer" on our website and add your twinkling light this can be a way to encourage others around the world to also add their light and join in prayer. Through this we can help to illuminate the world in prayer. Email Blythe at blythe@childrensrosary.org if there is a 30 minute time each day you would like to commit to joining in prayer. We hope to have all 24 hours each day (48 slots) filled with people who will add their light to the View from Heaven map.
