Crowning of Mary in Ireland May 14, 2023

On this Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary it seemed timely to share some lovely photos from a Children's Rosary group's May Crowning of Mary that was held in Magherafelt Parish Co Derrry in Ireland on May 14, 2023. 

The children began with a procession before the Crowning. The children then knelt for a Children's Rosary and they placed roses before a statue of Mary.

 The group leader shared of the day, "It was beautiful. We worked hard to make mantilla veils for each girl. I had a problem about who might take pictures and prayed about it. The night before a rosary group mum messaged asking permission for her father (a professional photographer!) to take pictures. Our Blessed Mother took care of things again!" The group leader went on to share:

After the Crowning, one of the children exclaimed " Look the sun is shining through the clouds right on Our Lady!" 

One of the members of the Children's Rosary in the group is a professional cake maker and made this lovely cake for the children to share after the Rosary.

One of the group leaders had purchased white dresses at second hand shops to be worn that day which made it extra special for the children. One of the children even had gold flowers in her hair as we see below.

May 2022 Crowning of Mary

Many Children's Rosary group have been holding May Crownings of Mary. Here are a few pictures of the one we held at the Children's Rosary at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in West Harford, Connecticut, USA on May 8th 2022. 

The children processed to the front of the Church singing, "Hail Holy Queen." We played the song from the Glorious Mysteries Children's Rosary CD to help support their soft voices. One of the youngest children attending was the one to place the crown of fresh roses on Mary's head. The children took turns placing tulips at the feet of Our Lady at the end of each decade. We had a new member who was just 2 years old who made her way to Our Lady's Statue to place a flower.

We caught several moments when Peyton and Ingrid were seen stroking Our Lady tenderly during the prayers. Both are just five years old and looked at Our Lady with love and wonder (see image below). 

A Crown for Our Lady

This week we received this beautiful picture of Scarlett-Maria, age 7, Crowning Our Lady. Scarlett-Maria is from Hale Barns, England, United Kingdom and is interested in starting a Children's Rosary prayer group at her parish. 

We wanted to share this crowning as well as the one we held during our Children's Rosary prayer group last weekend at St. Thomas Church in West Hartford, Connecticut USA. The youngest child attending the Rosary was chosen to crown Our Lady. This was Ingrid. 

Ingrid seemed very pleased with her efforts and looked at Our Lady with her crown of fresh flowers. 

Families continued to be spread out in the chapel during the Rosary but we were very excited to be able to hold a procession and May Crowning.

Our Lady is Crowned Many Times by the Children this Weekend

We share these pictures from the May crownings that were held this weekend at St. Peter Claver Parish in West Hartford, Connecticut USA and also St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in West Hartford, Connecticut. 

At St. Peter Claver we had a tiny group to begin our Children's Rosary meeting. It was just our three children. Asher being the youngest, crowned Our Lady. We played the song Hail Holy Queen from our Children's Rosary Glorious Mysteries CD during the crowning. Following the crowning, we began the Rosary. But then there was a surprise...another family came! The Children's Rosary group leader from the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Waterbury Connecticut, came with her daughter Marianne. We were all thrilled to see them both. Marianne quickly took her place kneeling next to my kids. At the end of the Rosary, we decided to crown Our Lady again as Marianne was now the youngest child attending the Rosary. We again played Hail Holy Queen and sang along. Marianne very reverently placed the fresh rose crown on Our Lady's head.

Today we had our monthly Children's Rosary at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. We began the Children's Rosary with a crowning. This time it was little Ingrid who was our youngest child in attendance. 

With the help of her older sister, she place the crown of flowers on Mary's head. She promptly ran back to her mom saying "I did it". She was very pleased with herself. We had two boys who were making their first communion today join us for the crowning and part of the Rosary. We felt it was a tremendous grace for them to have this time in prayer before they had to line up for Mass. We prayed in a special way for them. 

This little crown of roses was placed many times on Our Lady's head. Roses were also placed at Her feet at the end of the decades of the Rosary. We did small things but we trust they have great meaning to Our Lady and also to the children. These little experiences, such as Crowning Mary, create memories for these children that last a lifetime. One might reflect on if you ever participated in a Crowning of Mary as a child. Do you remember the day? Most look back fondly on such memories. These experiences allow the roots of faith to go deeper in the soul and help to anchor us in the knowledge that we have a Heavenly Mother who loves us.

May Crowning of Mary in Pakistan 2017

Last Sunday a special crowning ceremony for Mother Mary was held in Butan Pura Qila Didar Sing. Children's Rosary groups from different localities in Pakistan were invited. The ceremony was held under the supervision of three priests.

Many people attended the Mass and Crowning of Mary.  

This was a beautiful way to close the month of May. Many Children's Rosary groups including the ones in Pakistan will be meeting this weekend. Consider unifying prayers with the children. A full schedule of meetings listed in your local time zone is present on our website www.childrensrosary.org

Remembering Our Lady

Last Friday The Children' Rosary at St. Mary's Church in Pine Bluff, Wisconsin held a May Crowning at the beginning of their Children's Rosary meeting.  Little Abigail pictured above, who had just received her First Communion the previous Sunday, was chosen to crown Our Lady.  How precious she is standing on the step stool so carefully setting the crown of flowers on Our Lady's head.  Each of the children was able to come forward and place a flower before the feet of Our Lady.  The children then knelt in prayer of the Rosary. 

After receiving these pictures last weekend I found myself contemplating them in front of the Blessed Sacrament.  In particular I could not stop thinking about Abigail. My heart kept pondering the relationship between her First Communion and these special moments with Our Lady.  I began to remember my own son on his First Communion.  During the Mass he received a rose.  As we were leaving the Church and reaching the car, he asked if he could go and see Our Lady.  We said, yes, and he was off running around the other side of the Church.  As we turned the corner, we saw him kneeling in front of Our Lady.  He gave her his rose and kissed her on the head.  
It seemed as I thought about Kostin and Abigail that it was very important to them, to thank Our Lady after receiving their First Holy Communion.  The children had each been meeting in their respective Children's Rosary groups for a long time.  By spending time contemplating the mysteries of the life of Mary and Jesus they knew them now like friends.  Upon reaching that which Our Lady had been preparing them for: their first Holy Communion they did not forget their Heavenly Mother. Each came back to show Our Lady their love and thanksgiving through the gifts they had to give: sweet flowers and prayers.

Happy Mother's Day!

Today in the United States and other parts of the world we celebrate Mother's Day.  It is a day to thank and honor our moms.  

We received a beautiful gift today.  Our Children's Rosary group leader from St. Bernard Church in Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania USA requested a Mass for all the members of the Children's Rosary and their families to be celebrated today!  

We also had many Children's Rosary groups meeting today.  The picture above was taken at our Children's Rosary at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hartford, Connecticut USA this morning.  The children held a May Crowning and placed a wreath of fresh flowers upon Our Blessed Mother's head. We prayed for all the members of the Children's Rosary and in a special way Mothers...including our dear Blessed Mother.

Thank you all for the ways you are making Mary's month of May so special.

The Month of May is Dedicated to Our Blessed Mother

In the Encyclical of Pope Paul VI on Prayers during May he so beautifully describes how the month of May is a time “long dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God. Our heart rejoices at the thought of the moving tribute of faith and love which will soon be paid to the Queen of Heaven in every corner of the earth. For this is the month during which Christians, in their churches and their homes, offer the Virgin Mother more fervent and loving acts of homage and veneration; and it is the month in which a greater abundance of God's merciful gifts comes down to us from our Mother's throne.

We are delighted and consoled by this pious custom associated with the month of May, which pays honor to the Blessed Virgin and brings such rich benefits to the Christian people. Since Mary is rightly to be regarded as the way by which we are led to Christ, the person who encounters Mary cannot help but encounter Christ likewise. For what other reason do we continually turn to Mary except to seek the Christ in her arms, to seek our Savior in her, through her, and with her? To Him men are to turn amid the anxieties and perils of this world, urged on by duty and driven by the compelling needs of their heart, to find a haven of salvation, a transcendent fountain of life.”

Pope Pius goes on to recommend May as a time of special prayers.

“Because the month of May is a powerful incentive to more frequent and fervent prayers, and because our petitions more readily find access to her compassionate heart during it, it has been a favorite custom of Our predecessors to choose this month, dedicated to Mary, for urging the Christian people to offer up public prayers whenever the needs of the Church demanded it or some grave crisis threatened the human race. This year, Venerable Brothers, We in turn feel compelled to call for such prayers from the whole Catholic world. Looking at the present needs of the Church and the status of world peace, We have sound reasons to believe that the present hour is especially grave and that a plea for concerted prayer on the part of all Christians is a matter of top priority."

May Crowning

The Children's Rosary at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hartford, CT USA had a May Crowning of Mary yesterday.  

The children gathered in the back of our chapel and processed down the aisle singing Immaculate Mary.  Some of the children had made Mother's Day card's for Mary as it was also Mother's Day in the United States and they placed then at her feet.  The smallest child of our group little Caleb finished the procession and crowned Mary with a wreath of roses. 

The children then knelt in front of Our Lady for the Rosary.  The children took turns at the microphone to lead the rosary.  Yesterday was particularly special as Connor lead a decade for the first time with Kostin.  When Connor first joined the Children's Rosary he usually sat with his mother and prayed from his seat.  With the help of his mom he would place a rose at the foot of Mary at the end of a decade of the Rosary.  Connors disabilities made it difficult for him to join the children kneeling on the ground.  Yet Our Lady would show us that nothing is impossible with prayer. Over months of coming to the Children's Rosary, Connor showed all of us he could do even more and during the last two months he has joined the children on his knees before the Statue of Our Lady.  Several times I saw him pointing to the microphone and when I asked him after the Rosary was over if he would like to lead in the future he said, "Yes".

Yesterday would be that day when Connor would lead us all for the first time.  He came forward with Kostin and the two beautifully lead the group in the third Glorious Mystery of the Rosary which is the Descent of the Holy Spirit.  All were inspired to see the courage and faith of a child who faces so many extra challenges. 

The children concluded the Rosary by bringing roses to their mothers and participating in a short raffle of small devotional necklaces which my daughter coordinated.  The two winners were Mary Rose and Connor.  

On this Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, I continue to be inspired by the prayers of our children and to see their wonderful love of prayer and Our Lady.
