The Tongue

"Don't speak unless you can improve upon the silence"

Daily Mass today brought a reminder of the power of the tongue.  It is coincidentally as I recall from my medical training the strongest muscle in the body. Today's first reading from James describes the dangers of the tongue
James 3:3-10 If we put bits into the mouths of horses that they may obey us, we guide their whole bodies. Look at the ships also; though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So the tongue is a little member and boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire! And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is a unrighteous world among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the cycle of nature, and  set afire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by humankind, but no human being can tame the tongue--a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brethren, this ought not to be so.

Fr. Sas today recalled a quote he had heard at one of his visits to a monastery, "Don't speak unless you can improve upon the silence".   The ancients recognized that words have a life and they continue living..

Thus how vigilant and careful we must be when we speak.  It is dangerous sometimes when we are afraid of silence and feel the need to let ourselves speak without thinking.  St. Faustina was acutely aware of this.  In her diary she speaks of this:

92 Humiliation is my daily food. I understand that the bride must herself share in everything that is the groom's; and so His cloak of mockery must cover me, too. At those times when I suffer much, I try to remain silent, as I do not trust my tongue which, at such moments, is inclined to talk for itself, while its duty is to help me praise God for all the blessings and gifts which He has given me. When I receive Jesus in Holy Communion, I ask Him fervently to deign to heal my tongue so that I would offend neither God nor neighbor by it. I want my tongue to praise God without cease. Great are the faults committed by the tongue. The soul will not attain sanctity if it does not keep watch over its tongue.

Lord may we the children's rosary experience  healing of our tongues that we may not offend You or our neighbor and only use our tongue to praise You.

What a wonderful idea St. Faustina had to pray for this before the Holy Eucharist touches our tongue.

Lonely

ARE YOU LONELY?
Those of you who may have found this site by searching the word lonely have found the right place. You are among friends here.  This website is not a cold electronic virtual reality.  It was created by real hands (and may I say hands which can barely type). We have been waiting for you...the lonely.  We have prayed that you might find your way here.

Today I heard a story of a women who jumped off the Hartford Hospital parking garage to her death yesterday at 1:00PM.  The priest who shared this story with us at daily Mass was called to speak to the family.  He is often called when these type of things occur as he works with many hospitals in the area.  He told us he speaks to so many people everyday who are lonely, that loneliness is so common these days.

For weeks we have been praying that we the children's rosary group would be the extended hands of Our Blessed Mother and her Son.  We believe in faith that these prayers are heard.  The Lord in His generosity is showing us right where to begin.  The lonely who may be right in front of us or half way around the world sitting at a computer.  These people are aching to be found aching to have a hand reach out to them, drowning in loneliness.  We are that hand here for you.  Take our hand and know you are not alone.  If you are local join us for our monthly prayer meeting.  If you are not then join together with our prayers the second Sunday of the month from 9:45-10:15 EST. Tell the Lord in your heart that you want to be part of our group and all of our novenas to the growing list of saints will include you.  Email us any of your petitions and we will pray with you and for you (petitions can be emailed to blythe.kaufman@gmail.com).  Whoever you are that is reading this know you are important to Our Lord but you are also important to us.

Mother Theresa often spoke of those sick from loneliness.  She encountered a man living alone in a dirty old shed.  She went to his home to help him. She found his lamp and it was dirty.  She told him they should clean it and fill it with oil as it could be lit when a friend might come to visit.  He shared with Mother Theresa that he had no friends so their was no use in cleaning the lamp.  Mother cleaned it and proceeded to visit this man for some time.  Mother became ill and one of her sisters stopped by the mans home to check on him.  He inquired as to why Mother Theresa was not there and her sisters told him she was ill.  The Man told them to tell her his lamp was lit.

Mother Theresa known for tending the sick found those suffering from loniless to be in the most need.

The first reading from Mass today was James (2:14-17). What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works? Can his faith save him? If a brother or sister is ill-clad and in lack of daily food, and one of you says to them. "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what does it profit? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.

A new initiative for the children's rosary is under development.  It is my prayer that some of our children will begin visiting a local nursing home to lead a rosary.  It is also a prayer of mine that we may be able to have prayer buddies.  An elderly person will be paired with a child and they can each pray for each other. More information to follow....

Feb 12th Children's Rosary

May the peace of Christ be with you all.  Many of you reading this were unable to come to our Children's rosary this past Sunday due to illness or commitments.  Know that you were remembered in prayer during our children's rosary.  Fr. Murphy and Monique (mom to Sofia) are sick and we pray in a special way for them and those of you who are sick.  Kathy, mom to Peter and Angie, joined us and we remember her birthday.  Fr. Sam joined us and I only later found out that it is the 12th anniversary of his ordination.  How blessed we are to have such a loving priest who takes the time to pray with our children and families.  Thank you God the Father for calling Father Sam and then bringing him to our Parish.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you......

One highlight that I feel compelled to share was when Mary Rose led the fifth Glorious Mystery: the Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth. Mary Nagy was beside her and the two led us in prayer (see photo).  Mary Rose courageously led us and at one moment called out for her Father for help but then went on.  Her father tenderly looked at her and prayed aloud from his seat.  She finished the first part of each Hail Mary with a beautiful emphasis on the word Jesus.  It is said that each time we say "Jesus" it is an act of perfect love, for we offer to God the infinite love of Jesus.  So often we forget the power of the name of Jesus but today Mary Rose reminded me of the absolute beauty and power the name carries.  Thank you Jesus for giving us innocent witnesses of your Love.
Families began taking bookmarks to decorate and if anyone would like to draw on our bookmarks let me know and we can arrange it so that you can get some to decorate (see photo). We will be collecting all bookmarks(already blessed) at next months children's rosary March 11th.  More novenas are being prayed by members of our group and I am attaching an updated list.  If you know others who want to be part of our group, young or old, forward them my email and have them contact me if they want to join our novenas.  Individuals only have to tell the Lord in prayer that they want to be part of our group to begin receiving the benefits of all these prayers and novenas.  I have included the intention of the novena below with the ever growing list of Saints.

MAY THE CHILDREN’S ROSARY, THEIR FAMILIES, THOSE ASSOCIATED WITH THE CHILDREN’S ROSARY INCLUDING OUR PRIESTS, OUR BISHOP AND OUR HOLY FATHER THE POPE BE THE EXTENDED HANDS OF OUR BLESSED MOTHER AND HER SON.  MAY WE GATHER A GREAT MANY SOULS ESPECIALLY YOUNG PEOPLE FOR THE LORD.  MAY WE EXPERIENCE RENEWAL OF FAMILY PRAYER AND SPREAD THAT RENEWAL OF FAMILY PRAYER WITHIN THE CHILDREN’S ROSARY GROUP AND BEYOND. IN A SPECIAL WAY WE ASK (THE SAINT YOU ARE PRAYING TO) TO CHOOSE A FAMILY OR A PERSON OR A PRIEST, ASSOCIATED WITH OUR CHILDREN’S ROSARY GROUP OR OUR BISHOP, OR OUR POPE TO LEAD IN THEIR SPIRITUAL JOURNEY. DEAR SAINT PRAY FOR OUR EXTENDED GROUP THAT WE MAY EMBODY THE VIRTUES YOU EXEMPLIFIED HERE ON EARTH.

May I humbly suggest one last thing as we move forward as the hands of our Lady and Her Son, we will be facing forces opposed to these efforts. There is one refuge where we will be safe and that is within the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  We are safe there and evil can not hurt us.  Let us use this place of safety and protection by consecrating ourselves and our families daily to The Immaculate Heart of Mary and Sacred Heart of Jesus.  I have included prayers below.

CONSECRATION TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS
O Jesus, we know that You are merciful (Mt. 11:29),
and that You gave Your Heart for us,
that was crowned with thorns by our sins;
We know that even today You are still pleading
with us so that we will not be lost.
Jesus, remember us when we are in sin.
By means of Your Sacred Heart,
grant us, that all men love one another;
Cause hatred to disappear among men.
Show us Your love,
for we all love You,
and want You to protect us
with your Shepherd’s Heart
and free us from all sin.
Jesus, enter into each heart.
Knock on the door of our hearts.
Be patient and unwearied with us.
We are still closed, since we still have not
yet understood Your love for us.
Knock persistently and grant, O good Jesus,
that we open our hearts to You,
at least when we will have remembered the passion
You suffered for us. Amen.

CONSECRATION TO THE
IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY
O Immaculate Heart of Mary, overflowing
with goodness, Show us Your love for us.
May the flame of Your heart, O Mary,
Descend upon all mankind.
We love You so.
Impress true love in our hearts
that we may have a continuous desire for You.
O Mary, meek and humble of heart,
Remember us when we are in sin.
You know that all men sin.
Grant to us by means of Your Immaculate Heart,
to be healed from every spiritual illness.
In doing so, we then will be able to gaze
upon the goodness of Your Maternal Heart,
And thus be converted through
the flame of Your Heart. Amen.

"He sent them out two by two"

"He sent them out two by two" Mark 6:7
April 10th will be the children's rosary's one year anniversary.  We will be celebrating that one year anniversary on April 15th as the second Sunday of the Month is Easter and many of you may be traveling or seeing family.  This upcoming year will be dedicated to Renewal of Family prayer.  There is something very exciting I want to share with you all.  The children and I have purchased over 30 read aloud children's Bibles.  This is the one we use in our family every night.  It is unique in that children as young as our two years old follow the stories but it is also appropriate for older children.  Each story has two questions at the end which makes reading very interactive.  My husband Seth usually reads and the kids love listening and answering the questions.  I realized after going through the Bible several times with the children how little I knew about the Old Testament and it has been extremely enriching for me as well.  It is our hope that each family will take a Bible and read it with their children at night.  Just as in the gospel, Jesus sent the apostles out two by two it seemed appropriate that we have someone to guide us in our readings and prayers as well as our spiritual development.  Through the grace of the Holy Spirit an inspiration came that we should pray a novena to a Saint for each family.  We should pray to a great many Saints and ask them to choose a family, individual, priest, Bishop or our Pope to lead in their spiritual journey. We would also pray to the Holy Spirit to inspire the pairing.  As not all of the members of our children's rosary have children and some are leading a consecrated life we would have handmade bookmarks for them.  A Saint would be written on all the bookmarks and Bibles.  At the April 15th rosary each family would choose a Bible and each single person would chose a bookmark.  The first bookmark to be randomly chosen will be for our Holy Father the Pope and the second for our Archbishop Mansell (these will be sent to them with a letter from the children's rosary). What leaves me in awe is that there is a Saint who wants to choose each one of us.  Often we pray to the Saint we like or relate to but often there are so many Saints we know nothing about that could help us in just the way God intends but we are unaware of this help which is available to us.   In order to allow the Holy Spirit to fully work and pair exactly the right Saint with the right family or person each saint's name will be placed on a piece of paper and randomly assigned to a bookmark or Bible.  On April 15 you will have an opportunity to randomly choose a Bible or bookmark (these Bibles and bookmarks will also be given out on subsequent meeting. Those of you following remotely I can randomly choose one for you saying your name and send it to you).

January 27th the first novena was begun.  Nine novenas have been completed and sixteen more are underway.  Initially I had intended on saying at least 60 novenas myself.  The Lord through prayer has shown me that this is something that I should open to you all.  Why stop with 60 novenas when we could do many, many more with more people praying.  Maybe the Saint who wants to choose your family is just waiting for their name to be found and a novena to be started. As the first novenas were completed there was such a strong response from Heaven that I was quite overwhelmed.  Inspirations began flowing and a consuming desire to pray more.  I am including the prayer I say with each novena.  I have purchased the blank bookmarks.  On one side will be written Children's Rosary and the other ultimately will have a Saint's name.  On the side which says children's rosary I am inviting the children to draw crosses or spiritual images. Please keep the back blank as I will later write in the Saints name.  I hope to collect the bookmarks at our March 11th meeting.

I began novenas to Saints I was familiar with, however, I am beginning to learn about Saints that are new to me.  If you decide to say a novena please read a bit about the Saint as we do not want these beautiful people to be strangers to us but to teach us and inspire us.  Please email or post the names of any Saints or Blesseds that you will be saying a novena to so that I will be able to assemble a composite list.  Once a Saint has been "enrolled" please choose another Saint.  I will periodically update the blog with the growing list of Saints.  My heart is burning as I writing this and I am confident that their are so many Saints who want to be asked to help us.  May we be the extended hands of Our Lady and her Son in this world.   If you have never said a novena before, it is a nine day prayer for a petition.  You can search the internet for a particular Saint and the word novena or you can search saints who were martyrs or saints from England, etc..  It is often recommended that novenas be said during certain times of the year but praying a novena at anytime of the year is a good thing.  I am including a short excerpt from the Dairy of St. Faustina, a Saint who lived during the 1940's and to whom Jesus had regular communication.  Jesus' words are in bold.
229 During this retreat, I myself will direct your soul. I want to confirm you in peace and love. And so the first few days passed by. On the fourth day, doubts began to trouble me: Is not this tranquillity of mine false? Then I heard these words, My daughter, imagine that you are the sovereign of all the world and have the power to dispose of all things according to your good pleasure. You have the power to do all the good you want, and suddenly a little child knocks on your door, all trembling and in tears and, trusting in your kindness, asks for a piece of bread lest he die of starvation. What would you do for this child? Answer Me, my daughter. And I said, "Jesus, I would give the child all it asked and a thousand times more. "And the Lord said to me, That is how I am treating your soul. In this retreat I am giving you, not only peace, but also such a disposition of soul that even if you wanted to experience uneasiness you could not do so. My love has taken possession of your soul, and I want you to be confirmed in it. Bring your ear close to My Heart, forget everything else, and meditate upon My wondrous mercy. My love will give you the strength and courage you need in these matters.

The reason I felt inspired to send this to you all is that we the children's rosary (and I include anyone young or old who in their heart desires to be part of our group) are that small child trembling, begging the Lord to use us for His Will in this poor, peaceless world.  His response has been just as is described in the diary. He is granting our prayers and a thousand times more than we could have imagined.  Each Saint we are asking for help will need a person to be paired with.  We ask each Saint to bring the family or person he or she wants to lead to our group if that person is not already part of the group.  May every Saint and Blessed join us together and we may extend hand to hand across the globe.  Nothing is impossible with God. My hand goes out to you, may the Holy spirit guide you as to where your hand will reach and so on.  This is an exciting time and I thank the Lord for each one of you. Amen

Your Friend in Christ,
Blythe

Welcome to the Children's Rosary Blog

Welcome to the first posting of the Children's Rosary. This blog has been consecrated to the Sacred Heart of  Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  May the Holy Spirit guide all posts   according to the Will of God.
