Perpetual Vows

Asher Kaufman, age 18, set out on June 28 for a yearlong trip to help spread the Children's Rosary in Europe and Africa. He has been spending the month of July at La Salette Shrine in the Alps. He grew up helping the Children's Rosary and participating in it. He now is helping to spread the Children's Rosary to more parishes and schools. He is also discerning a vocation to the priesthood. He has been sharing dispatches from the trip.
As today is the Feast of St. Jean Marie Vianney, patron saint of priests, the post seemed particularly timely.

On one of my last days in La Salette, I was able to witness quite a beautiful ceremony as the seminarians of the community in their final year of studies made their perpetual vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience in the Basilica at the Shrine of La Salette.

The seminarians had been at La Salette for a month completing formation with the community. They came from Angola, Madagascar, Brazil, Poland, and Slovakia.

On July 27, during the 10:30 Mass, they all made their vows; there were even some soldiers present to carry a flag in the procession afterward. It was a very powerful moment to see the young men officially taking up the mission of priesthood and brotherhood with such joy and resolve. The superior of the La Salette community was present to preside, and the superior of the community of nuns was also present.
If you are not familiar with La Salette Shrine where Asher is staying, Asher provides a nice post with the full background of the apparition (Click HERE to learn more).
