2015 Highlights

Over the past several days we have been featuring events that happened this year that had yet to be shared with you all.  One of those beautiful events was an Anniversary Celebration of the passing of Servant of God, Fr. Patrick Peyton.  

Fr. Patrick Peyton is known for his saying, "the family that prayers together stays together".  On June 6th 2015 a celebration was organized by Holy Cross Family Ministries.  The Children's Rosary was invited to participate.  Members from at least two of our Children's Rosary groups: the Children's Rosary from Sacred Heart Church in Middleboro, Massachusetts and the Children's Rosary from Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Sharon, Massachusetts attended.

One of our little members, Jack, was asked to help pass out Rosaries at the event.  He took great joy in this task.  Holy Cross Family Ministries shared this beautiful picture of Jack and his mother pictured above as well as the photo of the procession and Rosary.

The day involved a Rosary, Eucharistic procession, and a Mass celebrated by the Most Reverend Edgar M. da Cunha S.D.V., Bishop of Fall River Massachusetts. The children who attended had a wonderful and blessed filled day.  Many had an opportunity to participate in the procession and help lead the Rosary. As children from two Children's Rosary groups attended it was also an opportunity to spend time together.  Stickers with the Children's Rosary logo were worn by each member of the Children's Rosary so the children could easily identify who was part of the Children's Rosary and make new friends.

Feast of St. Thomas Becket

As today is the Feast of St. Thomas Becket, Bishop and Martyr, I thought it timely to highlight the Children's Rosary at St. Thomas Becket Church in Cheshire, Connecticut USA.  In these last days of 2015, we have been sharing events that happened during the year that seemed to slip by without spotlighting them here.  

One such event was the visit of UN Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima to St. Thomas Becket Parish on October 15th 2015.  The Children's Rosary group leaders for this parish helped organize the visit and held a Children's Rosary before Our Lady of Fatima and the Blessed Sacrament. Custodian of the statue, Judy Studer, shared with the children the story of Our Lady of Fatima.  She also spoke of the three children of Fatima and their beautiful devotion to the Rosary.  First class relics of both Bl. Jacinta and Bl. Francisco were present for veneration. Each child reverently came forward for veneration of the relics.  

Toward the end of the evening one child went before Our Blessed Mother for some last prayers before leaving.  It was very sweet to see her saying her last prayers before saying good bye.

Why Does Our Lord Choose to Work Through the Humble?

Scripture tells us, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness". (2 Corinthians 12:8) Indeed it seems Our Lord often chooses those that have been humbled to work through.  In this way His hand can be seen most clearly.  Our Lord also shows us the wonderful blessings that come through our weakness.  For when we realize we cannot do it alone then Our Lord strengthens us and gives us those that can help us in doing His work.  

Over the past months I have been receiving notes from a new Children's Rosary group leader from Ohio named Betty.  She is blind.  Betty felt drawn to begin a Children's Rosary after hearing about it on the EWTN show Sunday Night Prime.  The timing of her first inquiry was providential, as we were working with the Xavier Society for the Blind on a Braille transcription of the Children's Rosary book.  With all the needed materials provided to Betty in Braille she began to pray that Our Lord would send her a sighted person to help her.  Our Lord sent her two.  She began at Holy Cross Academy Elementary School in Massillon, Ohio.  They have held Children's Rosary meetings in October, November and December.  She hopes to soon have a Parish monthly group as well.  During this time, Betty realized that her service dog was a highlight for the children when she came.  As we were talking one day a wonderful inspiration came that maybe her guide dog could wear the Children's Rosary logo.  With my own joint disability sewing was not possible.  Betty also could not sew one without being able to see it.  However, with prayer and God's grace a wonderful answer came.  Women from her Churches "caring stitches"  offered to make a Children's Rosary banner for her dog that he could wear both to meetings and at the Church to help increase awareness of the Children's Rosary.  She also felt moved to put a little miraculous medal on his harness too.  Through blindness and the need for a guide dog, Our Lord was bringing beautiful blessings. 

Indeed it would seem that no disability or weakness is too great that Our Lord cannot use it for the good.  

The next Children's Rosary at Holy Cross Academy will be January 15th, 2016.

Counting Our Blessings

Today during the homily at Mass the priest told us to count our blessings and if we have a hard time finding any to call him as he is good at spotting them.  Indeed, Christmas is a beautiful time to thank Our Lord. Over the next few days as we approach the New Year, I would like to hightlight some events that happened this year with the Children's Rosary that we have yet to share. Each one is a beautiful blessing. 

One blessing came from Bridgeport, Connecticut USA.  In September 2014 a member of the Children's Rosary and I, met Sr. Tremblay of the Daughters of Charity of the Most Precious Blood.  She was handing out food to those who were in need at the back of the convent.  We shared with her the Chidlren's Rosary and also gave her Rosaries.  She promised us that she would start a Children's Rosary with the children from the inner city of Bridgeport, Connecticut.  Her goal was to in a special way invite the inner city children that face so many challenges.  Sr. Tremblay mentioned that she would be meeting with her group each Sunday at 2:30 PM.  During the 2015 winter we spoke and she shared that the boiler had broken in the Church where they were meeting so they had to stop meeting for a short time.  The children were heart broken and came to her asking that she not send them home even though it was cold in the Church.   The children so loved the time they spent coming together in prayer.

Months past and I had not heard from Sr. Tremblay until one of our group leaders from Cheshire, Connecticut was able to stop by and visit Sr. Tremblay.  She had wonderful news.  Not only were the children meeting each Sunday afternoon but they were meeting each Saturday afternoon, too.  She said so many blessings were coming from holding the Children's Rosary she had not considered stopping even despite some of the obstacles along the way.

Third Day of Christmas

Feast of the Holy Family

During the Octave of Christmas the Feast days come one after the other.  It is such a blessed time of the year one might become overwhelmed.  However, the Feast of the Holy Family is something that deserves particular attention.  Something that I became aware of at least a year after the Children's Rosary formed was that the chapel where the first meeting of the Children's Rosary was held is named after the Holy Family.  In our parish we rarely call it by its formal name, the Holy Family Chapel, but rather call it simply, the chapel, and so its true name was not known to me until three years ago.  In reflection it seemed a perfect home for the Children's Rosary.  For children are the heart of the family and families are the lungs of the Church.  If our families are strong then our church will be strong.  And so I could see the wisdom of Our Lord in bringing the children to prayer in a space dedicated to the Holy Family.  Through these little innocent prayers the coals of love and peace in our families would be stoked and a renewed commitment to family prayer would begin.

Christmas Mass Offered for Members of the Children's Rosary

Today a Christmas Mass was offered through the Capuchin Missions for all the members of the Children's Rosary and all who help the Children's Rosary.  Every month a Mass is said on the 25th of the month for members.  In December it is particularly special that our monthly Mass falls on Christmas.  A special gift helping all of us to experience Christ being born in our hearts.

There is Still Time to Find Just the Right Christmas Gift

This time of year can get pretty hectic.  At Mass on Monday the priest emphasized this point by mentioning that with hospital calls and so much happening with Christmas fast approaching he didn't even have time to take a shower or put on socks.  He held out his foot to show his bare ankles.  He further said he was so busy he couldn't even find his comb so he had resorted to using his dog's comb.  We were all laughing but indeed things can become busy as one wants to make sure no one has been forgotten and everyone is remembered with something special.  The problem is finding that something special that will mean something to the person receiving it.  A few years ago, we began a little family tradition of saying Rosaries for family and friends.  This has continued to grow so that our time approaching Christmas and the 12 days of Christmas is consumed with prayer.  The added benefit to giving spiritual presents to loved ones is that as one spends this intense time of prayer we are all receiving grace, too.    

Last week we had two friends over for dinner.  The kids wrapped up the presents we had for them.  As our friends gathered in the living room the kids began to giggle.  They thought it was so exciting to share the gifts they had helped to present.  The gifts included the prayers we had said for our friends.  Each prayer was written on a colored paper shape.  Some of the shapes were stars, the moon and a manger.  The name of the person who had said the prayer was written on the back of the shape.  

The laughter seemed contagious and even I was laughing, too.  There was a feeling that maybe some of the laughter was nervousness.  As we all wondered what our friends would think when they opened the boxes.  I was surprised that little thoughts entered my mind.  Questions came wondering if they might be disappointed or wonder if we didn't care enough to buy them something.  I was actually very surprised these thoughts came as we waited for the boxes to be opened.  

Then as the boxes came open and each person saw what was inside, there was excitement.  It was just as the children had hoped, our friends loved their presents.  They were so touched that so much time had been spent praying for each of them and their families.  For each of us were re-learning about Christmas.  The kids were watching and learning.  I was learning.  Each time I take a chance and move in the direction of gathering treasures for friends from Our Lord I am never disappointed.  Another area we are re-learning is the fact that Christmas in not just one day.  It is 12 days and it ends on Epiphany.  That means all the Christmas gifts and cards do not need to be in each persons hands on December 25th.  Rather it is just the beginning of the celebrating.  In this way, the pressure of a December 25th deadline to remember each person is alleviated.  If you are reading this and feel stressed that so much is left undone or you wished you had done things differently this Christmas.  Don't worry there is still time.  The shelves are not empty in Heaven.  Take as much as you want for your loved ones.  One last thought, if you ever feel paralyzed that there are too many people in your life that you would want to pray for so hence it might be better not to start.  Let me share, I had that thought several weeks ago but in prayer I could feel Our Lady saying, begin start with one person.  Our Lord does not work at 10,000 feet he works person to person.  And so let us work in the same way.  Do not worry that you may not have time to pray for everyone...just rejoice with each soul you can pray for.  You may be surprised by how many souls you can cover in prayer.

Christmas Blessings!!

Dear Friends,
Christmas Blessings to you and your family!! 
As we prepare for Our Lord's coming there is an overwhelming feeling of gratitude that comes.  A desire to thank Our Lord for his kindness comes from the many gifts he has poured into the Children's Rosary this year.  As the Children's Rosary is composed of many souls, it is you that are the treasures.  You are the gifts that have been given. Each soul brought to the Children's Rosary for a reason.  For you all we kneel before the manger and thank Our Lord with all our hearts.  How could it be that so many individuals from around the world could be found and brought together with a mission of bringing children together in regular prayer of the Rosary.  Some nights I marvel at how a soul with just the right talent is brought to the Children's Rosary.  This individual may be deaf or blind or have some disability but the Lord shows how they are most perfectly suited to meet the need.  They may be suffering a great deal but they come with a heart full of love and a closeness to Our Blessed Mother.  Our Lord continues to show us what we can do, not what we cannot.  There is a hope that wells up from the Children's Rosary.  "In the desert people of faith are needed who, with their own lives point out the way to the Promised Land and keep hope alive. Living faith opens the heart to the grace of God which frees us from pessimism"(Pope Benedict XVI October 11, 2012).  Children have a wonderful way of doing this through prayer. 
May I humbly thank all of you who have helped the Children's Rosary.  Thank you to each family that has brought their children to the Children's Rosary.  In a special way may I thank parents and grandparents for their role in helping to pass on the faith by bringing these little ones together in prayer.  Thank you to those who run Children's Rosary groups and faithfully hold meetings month after month.  Thank you to those who have taken a chance and are trying to start new groups.  Thank you for all those from as far as Russian, Australia, Germany, India and the United Kingdom who have visited our website and united themselves to the children's prayers.  You are all a wonderful witness to me of the fellowship and love we all share together with Our Blessed Mother and Jesus.
As a small thank you to all our members and those that have given both of time, talent and treasure, a Mass has been offered for you all on December 25th 2015 through the Capuchin Missions.  All the members of the Children's Rosary and all who have been so generous to the Children's Rosary this year are also being remembered in our Christmas Novena. May Our Lord Bless You all Abundantly!!

First Children's Rosary in Zimbabwe

Last night we received these beautiful pictures of our new Children's Rosary group in Waterfalls, Harare Zimbabwe.  This group meets weekly on Saturday mornings at St. Fancis of Assisi Parish. The group meets at 9AM local time.  One can see all the beautiful flowers they have brought to place before Our Blessed Mother in this grotto.  They have mixed the flowers with pine cones and lit a candle while they pray. The children take turns leading using one of our Children's Rosary books.  
We were so blessed to meet the pastor of this parish and some of his parishioners at the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia USA.  To receive the first pictures of this new group only days before Christmas seems a very special gift from Our Lord.

Gratitude

The Children's Rosary has received some beautiful gifts this week.  Souls reaching out to help us in a myriad of different ways.  Also following last weeks Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, there have been pictures and notes coming in about the children and the meetings that were held that day.  One such meeting was in Cheshire, Connecticut USA.  At least 10 children knelt together to lead a Children's Rosary with at least 40 adults joining in from the pews.  The children were also accompanied by two seminarians and a priest in singing our theme song, Rosary Children.   Many adults came up afterwards and spoke of how the children's prayers had touched their hearts deeply.  The children also helped to celebrate the Feast by making a cupcake Rosary.

We also received a beautiful picture from our Children's Rosary group at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Natchitoches, Louisiana.  This is a relatively new group that has formed.  Seven children came together on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe to hold their monthly Children's Rosary.  
We also had a Children's Rosary held at St. Callistus Church in El Sobrante, California.  This is near San Francisco.  The children helped to open a new renovated grotto in honor of Our Blessed Mother. Twelve children led all present in a Children's Rosary.  The group leader shared that the final decade was led by a tiny three year old Hispanic girl who through her innocence melted hearts and brought many to tears.  The children concluded by singing Rosary Children.  Most of the children in this group are Spanish speaking but had practiced for many hours to learn our theme song in English.

Seeing these pictures and hearing of just some of the groups that met last week there is an overwhelming spirit of gratitude that fills ones heart.  To be able to give Our Lord and His Mother dear prayers of children as we move ever closer to Christmas is so beautiful.

A special thank you to all who have helped the Children's Rosary.  Thank you who have listened in prayer and heard how the Lord was calling you to help this prayer group movement.  Thank you to our group leaders who are faithful to their meetings, thank you to those who are praying and working hard to start new groups,  thank you to the parents and grandparents that bring their children to meetings, thank you to the children who through their prayers are a beautiful witness to so many, thank you to the many that unify prayers with the children from your homes, thank you to those who have seen a way that through your talents you could help this Apostolate, and thank you to all who have given of your treasure.  Please see your efforts and gifts as helping to bring more and more children to prayer and joy to Our Lord and his Mother as they look down and see more and more children's prayers rising toward heaven.

Patiently Waiting in Belgium

One of our members of the Children's Rosary sent us this picture today.  It is of a sign in the  window of his home in Eupen, Belgium.  The sign is written in German and it means Patiently Waiting. 

We have made it a little annual tradition to invite members of the Children's Rosary to place a sign in their window with the simple phrase Patiently Waiting.  It is a gentle and simple way to let others know where our hearts can be found as we prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ.

May I humbly share the inspiration for this effort.  Several years ago, I was walking past a home and such a sign was in the window.  It caught my attention.  Each time I walked past it each day I looked at it and was grateful for it.  To see the sign made me happy inside.  I wondered who put such a sign in their window.  Later I would find out it was a wonderfully holy priest.  After his passing many shared how special this little sign was to them.  I was so simple but it sent a ripple out into the community, a joyful one that is still moving in my heart years later even after the soul who placed it in his window has passed on.  What if each of us put a sign in our windows?  Please lets take a chance and find out.

"Coincidence is God's Way of Remaining Anonymous"

Tonight is the last night of Chanukah.  Our Jewish brothers and sisters celebrate the miracle of one days  oil that did not run out for 8 days.  The miracle is viewed as one lasting 8 days.  Even the first day some say is a miracle, as it took a miracle of faith for the candle to be lit with the knowledge there was not enough oil for all eight days.  Last night, my husband read to our family a wonderful reflection from a Rabbi, one that spoke of coincidences and miracles.

"There are only two ways to live your life.  One is as though nothing is a miracle.  The other is as though everything is a miracle." (Albert Einstein)

There must have been a time when you entered a room and met someone and after a while you understood that unknown to either of you there was a reason you had met.  You had changed the other or the other had changed you.  By some word or deed or just by your presence the errand had been completed.  Then perhaps you were a little bewildered or humbled and grateful.  And it was over.

Each lifetime is the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.  For some there are more pieces.  For others the puzzle is more difficult to assemble.  Some seem to be born with a nearly completed puzzle.  And so it goes.  Souls going this way and that trying to assemble the myriad parts. 

But know this.  No one has within themselves all the pieces to their puzzle.  Like before the days when they'd seal jigsaw puzzles in cellophane insuring that all the pieces were there.  Everyone carries with them at least one and probably many pieces to someone else's puzzle.  Sometimes they know it,  sometimes they don't.  

And when you present your piece which is worthless to you to another, whether you know it or not.  Whether they know it or not, you are a messenger from the Most High. Rabbi Lawrence Kushner

Hearing this reflection last night so much of it rang true.  It has been my humble experience that the further one goes in prayer the more frequent these coincidences seem to become.  And likewise, the more people one meets that seem to have one of the pieces to your puzzle.  With this realization, a great deal of joy comes.  It may also be that it is through prayer that one sees these coincidences more clearly and recognizes them as being guided by God. Tonight, on Gaudete Sunday, may we indeed "Rejoice in the Lord always". (Phil 4:4-7) Our God is indeed close and very active in our lives.

Mass Offered Today for the Children's Rosary Family

Children's Rosary at St. Bernard Parish

In honor of their 2 year anniversary, the Children's Rosary from St. Bernard Parish in Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania had a Mass celebrated for our whole Children's Rosary family.  As more and more groups have been offering Masses for the Children's Rosary as a whole it has the wonderful affect of drawing us all closer to Our Lord.  With each gift more grace pours into the hearts of all the members of the Children's Rosary.  Together we are helping to grow in holiness.  I recall an older women who once called interested in beginning a Children's Rosary.  We told her we would pray for her and her efforts to begin a group.  She said something which has remained in my heart.  She was so grateful for the prayers as up until now, to her knowledge, there was no one praying for her in the world.  This women was a widow and lived alone. Her children were grown and busy with their lives.  This widow shared with me that she was faithful to praying the Rosary every day.  She wanted to share this with young people and up until now did not know how.  She was overjoyed to find a way to share her love of the Rosary with children through the Children's Rosary.  

We each have a great gift to give each other.  For this women to be part of the Children's Rosary brings a blanket of prayers each day covering her.  For children, a soul who is willing to share their love of Our Lord by taking the time to start a Children's Rosary means a door opening to prayer and meeting Our Lord in their lives.  

Thank you all who have said yes to helping to start a Children's Rosary or who have prayed or had Masses said for the Children's Rosary.

New Children's Rosary in Zimbabwe

We are very excited to share that there is a new Children's Rosary group at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Waterfalls, Harare Zimbabwe.  They now meet weekly on Saturday mornings at 9AM UTC +2.  The group consists of about 20 children.  We were blessed to meet the Pastor of this Parish and some of the parishioners from his parish at the World Meeting of Families in September.

As we will be celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe tomorrow it seems particularly special that we have children from so many different parts of the globe being brought together in prayer.  As Our Lady of Guadalupe said to St. Juan Diego, "Do not be afraid.  Am I not here who am your Mother?"  Indeed Our Blessed Mother calls her children to come close together and pray.  With a motherly hand she guides us and protects us.  

One of the members of the Children's Rosary drew the picture above of Our Lady.  She drew the picture to explain why she thought the Children's Rosary was important. Her reason was simple: the Children's Rosary makes Mary happy.  Indeed one can imagine that each of these Children's Rosary groups that meets brings great joy and happiness to the heart of Our Blessed Mother.  A special thank you to all the members of the Children's Rosary who through your sacrifices and prayers allow us to give such a precious gift to our Mother.

Over the coming days we have many Children's Rosary groups meeting from around the world.  Please consider joining the children in prayer.  The children always pray for those unifying prayers with them.
