Feast of St. Pius V: April 30

St. Pope Pius V was Pope from January 7, 1566 to May 1, 1572. He joined the Dominicans at the age of fourteen years. Saint Pius V was known for his tremendous devotion to and promotion of the Rosary. In 1571, he urged the creation of the Holy League. This was founded on the feast of Saint Dominic.

Pope Pius V was canonized May 22 1712 by Pope Clement XI. We seek the intercession of St. Pope Pius V for the Children's Rosary, asking him to help the Children's Rosary reach more children and to increase our devotion to Our Lady. It seems fitting, since St. Pope Pius V had such a devotion to Our Blessed Mother, that his feast would usher in the month of May which is dedicated to Our Lady.

Feast of St. Catherine of Siena: April 29th 2020

Today we honor St. Catherine of Siena, Doctor of the Church and mystic. She is quoted as saying "Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire". Indeed she encourages us on the path to holiness. St. John Paul II made her one of Europe's patron saints. Many might not be aware but the Children's Rosary Joyful Mysteries CD has an original song written about St. Catherine of Siena sung by members of the Children's Rosary.

The Joyful Mysteries CD can be ordered through EWTN

Mass Offered on April 25th 2020 for Members of the Children's Rosary

A Mass was offered on April 25th 2020 for all the members of the Children's Rosary and all who help the Children's Rosary.  We continue to have a Mass said for this intention on the 25th of each month. It is a way we can humbly thank all those who participate and help the Children's Rosary in any way. Thank you all!

As so many are not able to attend Mass because of the Coronavirus having a Mass said this month for all the members of the Children's Rosary seemed particularly special.

We also pray that through the Rosary Novena, we will experience in our own country and across the entire world a renewal of family prayer.

Please consider joining in prayer!

A Novena of Thanksgiving Comes to a Close

Tomorrow will conclude our 9 day Novena of Masses in thanksgiving. This is something we do every year following the Anniversary of the Children's Rosary on April 10th. Leading up to the anniversary on April 10th a 9 day Novena of Masses was completed for the fulfillment of Our Lady's plans for the Children's Rosary.

The novena of Thanksgiving is always a very special part of the 18 days of Masses. It helps to center oneself in a spirit of simplicity and trust. In thanking God we acknowledge that He is in control and knows the best for us. He gives what we need. Our role is to trust in His Providence. A priest once shared some advice with me early when the Children's Rosary began. He advised to not get out ahead of the Spirit but be ready when the Holy Spirit opens the door. Thinking of his words we try to always allow God to lead us. In this way we can glorify God as all is unfolding according to His Will and not our own. There are things we would like to see happen but God knows the best of it. Today we woke up to a surprise. There was a layer of clean white snow outside. This winter we saw very little snow and to have so much fall in April was a surprise. Yet as I was reflecting on prior years when we had this novena I was reminded that we also had snowfalls during the days of the novena.

My mother has always said of snow that it is the poor man's fertilizer. It helps the plants through the winter. More snow is a good thing for the following years growing season and harvest. Perhaps one could see this snow as a signal grace. Our days of prayer and especially those of thanksgiving help us to cultivate spiritual fruits in our soul. Tomorrow is the last day of Masses. Four Masses will be celebrated in Thanksgiving. May we unify our prayers with those Masses and take some moments to thank God for the many blessings he has given not only to the Children's Rosary but to each of us. No matter what trial we may be under right now with the Coronavirus, one can always find blessings in each moment.

Thank you God.

In God's Time

A few weeks ago my children helped me in planting some spring vegetables. We began with things such as sugar snap peas, beets, lettuce, carrots, and Swiss Chard. My husband built us two raised beds for some of the veggies. Seeds were planted in the beds. The weather was rainy and a bit chilly. We watched eagerly waiting for those first shoots but none seemed to come. My son would ask if anything was up and he seemed a bit disappointed that the answer seemed always "no." But I assured him they were coming. Then on Easter we went out to the garden. The sun was bright and the day warm. Peeking out of the black earth were little sprouts. First I noticed the beets with the characteristic red stems (see above), then even smaller were the first sprigs from the spring carrots.

In the garden we have learned patience. We have seen that nature cannot be rushed. Everything happens in God's time. Not only were there new sprouts in the garden but one of the apple trees in the back of the yard had buds just ready to open.

Purple flowers dotted the edge of the driveway. Indeed all spring was bursting forth. The timing seemed so perfect as we celebrated Easter Sunday this year at home. There was no going to Church Mass with the pandemic having closed all those in our state. Yet there was beauty all around us. Nature was showing her colors and bursting forth new life. Last night my husband read from the Bible. The last few lines stood out to me, "But those that trust in the Lord shall renew their strength as eagles grow new plumes: They shall run and not grow weary, they shall march and not grow faint" (Isaiah 40:31). While we still do not know how long we will be confined to our homes, we trust in the Lord. All happens in God's time and we should not grow weary.

St. Rocco Protector Against Epidemics - Pray For Us

St. Rocco was born in Montpellier, France in 1340 A.D. His was a miraculous birth. After his mother prayed to the Blessed Virgin Mary, she conceived Rocco despite being thought to be barren. Rocco bore a red cross on his chest which appeared at his birth and remained for the rest of his life. St. Rocco at a young age developed a strong devotion to Our Blessed Mother. When his father died, Rocco was appointed governor of Montpellier but decided to leave this high position and depart instead for Rome. He journeyed there as a humble and poor pilgrim. There he cared for people with the plague. Miraculous healings were attributed to him during that time.  He ultimately contracted the plague himself. As a result, he was banished from the city and lived in a cave. It is reported that a dog faithfully brought him bread which helped him to survive. After a stay and cure at the castle of the kind Count Gothard Pallastrelli, (the owner of the dog) St. Rocco returned to Montpellier where he was imprisoned unfairly and erroneously thought to be an espionage agent. He languished in prison for five years before his death in 1378 A.D. On the day of his death, a bluish light emanated from his body. The governor, his uncle, realized that Rocco was his nephew because of the cross found on his breast.

St. Rocco is venerated in the Catholic Church as protector against the plague and contagious diseases. St. Rocco's feast is August 16th. During this time of pandemic, we seek his powerful intercession.
Prayer to St. Rocco

Dear St. Rocco, please intercede for us before Our Lord Jesus. May we have unwavering trust in God no matter the trials or illnesses that may befall us. May our hearts be open with mercy for those less fortunate and suffering around us. Following in the example you gave, St. Rocco, may we take up our cross and selflessly follow Our Lord. May we also find recourse to the intercession of Our Blessed Mother as you did since childhood. Amen.

A Light Goes Out

Good Friday something beautiful happen. We were keeping vigil with a candle. The candle we had been using during prayer time well before yesterday. We did different things throughout the day such as Rosary, listening to the Gospel of John, an hour of quiet prayer leading up until 3 PM. At 3 we finished quiet prayer. One of my children rang a bell exactly at 3PM and we were preparing to start the Chaplet of Divine Mercy when I looked at the candle and saw it was out. It had fully burned to the bottom. The last time I looked it had been lit. One of my children said, "it is probably hard already" but when he put his finger into the puddle of wax it was very much soft. It had gone out right at 3PM to the best we could tell. The timing was so perfect. It has left us in awe of the Providence of God.

Yesterday was also the 9th Anniversary of the first meeting of the Children's Rosary. Nine days of Masses were completed on April 9th for the fulfillment of Our Lady's plans for the Children's Rosary. April 10th, the anniversary, was Good Friday so there were no Masses. Today begins the 9 days of Masses in Thanksgiving. These will conclude on Divine Mercy Sunday. We are planning on 3 Masses a day to be celebrated in Thanksgiving during each of the days of the Novena. This 18 days of Masses is something we do each year surrounding the anniversary. We wish the Children's Rosary to be something guided by Our Blessed Mother to help us all to come close to her son, Jesus. As the most perfect of Mothers, Our Lady has taught us, her children, to remember to thank God. Hence, we follow our humble request with thanksgiving. This year we were only able to have 2 Masses said for the 9 days of petition. But we are most grateful that 3 Masses a day could be arranged for the days of thanksgiving.

We pray that all may have a most Blessed Triduum.

Join Us in Praying the Divine Mercy Novena Beginning April 10th 2020

Dear Friends,

Good Friday is the day that Jesus asked Saint Faustina that a 9 day novena to the Divine Mercy be initiated.  He gave her a different group of souls to pray for each day.  Along with those intentions the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is said as well. The novena leads up to Divine Mercy Sunday instituted by Pope John Paul II. Attached is a link to the Divine Mercy Novena and how to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

May the Children’s Rosary humbly ask that you include our intention with the intentions you are praying this Divine Mercy Novena. Today is our 9 year Anniversary of the first meeting of the Children's Rosary!! We wish for Our Lord to guide the Children's Rosary in the way that it most pleasing to Him as we continue forward.

Please remember that to become a member of the Children’s Rosary you only have to tell Our Lord in your heart of your desire to join us and then you will be included in all of these novenas and rosaries said daily. We thank you!

Intention:

MAY THE CHILDREN’S ROSARY, THEIR FAMILIES, THOSE ASSOCIATED WITH THE CHILDREN’S ROSARY INCLUDING OUR PRIESTS, OUR BISHOP AND OUR HOLY FATHER THE POPE BE THE EXTENDED HANDS OF OUR BLESSED MOTHER AND HER SON. MAY WE GATHER A GREAT MANY SOULS ESPECIALLY YOUNG PEOPLE FOR THE LORD.  MAY WE EXPERIENCE RENEWAL OF FAMILY PRAYER AND SPREAD IT ACROSS THE GLOBE. MAY A GREAT MANY PEOPLE BE BROUGHT TO THE CHILDREN'S ROSARY THAT WE MAY BLANKET THE EARTH WITH PEOPLE WANTING TO BE THE EXTENDED HANDS OF MARY AND JESUS. AMEN

We are excited to share that we have a recording of the children leading the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.  We invite you to pray with them as you say your novena.

Keeping Vigil

Two years ago, toward the end of Holy Thursday Mass I began to feel sick. As we prayed in our lower chapel after Mass I could feel something coming on. I went to bed that night and by the following morning I knew I had the flu. As I have many joint problems due to an inherited disability, my doctor had given me a prescription for an antiviral medication at the beginning of the flu season. He told me if I were to come down with a fever and body aches to start taking it. He was concerned that with lots of coughing with the flu, I might dislocate joints due to my severe joint instability. The key I was told is to start the medication at the first sign of symptoms.

The symptoms my doctor had mentioned now matched so I took the medication. Unfortunately, I had a reaction to the medication and by noon I was throwing up. Unable to lie down with the vomiting, I sat in our prayer room before a cross. From noon until 3PM I was there with fever, aches and vomiting. My youngest son saw me suffering. He came to me wanting to help. The only thing that helped at all was to have him sit quietly without talking next to me. Having his presence next to me made all the difference. We lit two candles next to each other. We were keeping vigil through Our Lord's Passion. In a special way, Our Lord gave us a window into His suffering that day. It helped us to understand how important it was that Our Lord had Mary and the Apostle John with Him. It also helped us to understand why holding quiet vigil with Our Lord has so much value.

The experience was such an important one we have kept the two little plates in our prayer room that held the candles we burned that day. The last bits of wax are still present. These are reminders. Today I humbly invite those sick with the Coronavirus and those still healthy to hold vigil. Do not underestimate the importance of being present, quiet with Our Lord.

Is your Church Closed?

As today is Holy Thursday, the day when Christ gave us the Holy Eucharist, it seems particularly sad that so many in the world t have no access to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist. With the Pandemic affecting so many countries, churches in many dioceses are closed. Yet the Catholic Church does give us means to seek graces through an Act of Spiritual Communion.  The Archbishop of Chicago recently released this decree for his Archdiocese

decree the following:
  1. That the obligation to receive Holy Communion during the Easter season is removed this year due to the impossibility of attendance by the People of God at celebration of Holy Mass.
  2. That each of the faithful initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist is encouraged to offer an Act of Spiritual Communion, in union with the entire People of God in the Archdiocese and throughout the world in this time of stress and difficulty.
  3. That all of the faithful, in accord with the Tradition and Teaching of the Church, are urged to offer a perfect Act of Contrition, in complete dependence upon the mercy and love of God, in sorrow for all sins and with a firm resolve to confess all serious sin at the next available time.
Given this Palm Sunday, the 5th day of April, A.D. 2020

We are including a Spiritual Communion below. This prayer is listed within the Pieta book. It also was recently used by the Rector of the National Shrine of Divine Mercy at several of their LIVE Masses.

Spiritual Communion
O Jesus, I turn toward the holy tabernacle where You live hidden for love of me. I love You, O my God. I cannot receive you in Holy Communion. Come, nevertheless, and visit me with Your grace. Come spiritually into my heart. Purify it. Sanctify it. Render it like unto Your own. Amen.

Lord, I am not worthy that Thou shouldst enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
(indulged if repeated 3 times)

St. Jean Marie Vianney spoke of the value of a Spiritual Communion:
“A spiritual communion acts on the soul as blowing does on a cinder-covered fire which was about to go out.  Whenever you feel your love of God growing cold, quickly make a spiritual communion.”

Photo credit: the above picture was taken of several members of the Children's Rosary praying in front of the incorrupt heart of St. Jean Marie Vianney when it visited Connecticut.

Free Audio Chaplet of Divine Mercy Led by Children

We would like to share a Chaplet of Divine Mercy recorded by two members of the Children's Rosary. This can be heard free on our website HERE.

May I humbly share the background of this recording. Once a month members of the Children's Rosary lead a LIVE Rosary on Radio Maria Radio. The children are also asked to lead a Chaplet of Divine Mercy. My small role in the hour is to introduce various parts. Month after month I would listen to these two young girls leading the Chaplet. It was one of the most moving versions of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy I have heard. It was so precious to hear little Emily, age 6, with her pleading voice saying, "Have mercy on us and on the whole world".

As time has a way of moving very fast, we felt that before such a precious moment was lost we should record these two sweet girls praying the Chaplet.  This version of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is available on our website.

Permission for the audio recording of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy was granted by the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Images of How Children Made Palm Sunday Special

Today we received these pictures from the Children's Rosary in Seychelles. Although the children were not able to meet in their prayer group or attend Mass they still tried to make Palm Sunday special in their little way. This is a French speaking Children's Rosary group. They therefore use our French name: Rosaire des Enfants. We thank the children for all they are doing to honor Our Lord.

Crushed, Stepped on and Then...

I grew up with a mother who loved flowers--perennials in particular. These are the type of flowers that come up year after year. We also put in a vegetable garden when I was a child but this was of secondary importance to the flowers. When I became an adult I shared my mother's love of gardening but I always had a desire to grow food. Everything in the yard had to make something even bushes. If a bush did not make food, it was my preference to replace it with something that could pull its weight in food production. This was tempered by my husband's like of some of our more mature bushes that simply remain green and look attractive. Yet last fall, my heart began to change. My heart began in a special way to open to the beauty of flowers. Of course, I always loved blossoms especially in the spring and admired them. But now the value and importance seemed to carry a new weight in my heart. There was a mix of seeing a value they brought and also a feeling that Our Lord was speaking to us through their beauty. By planting them myself I was giving God greater glory by bringing more beauty. Creating beautiful spaces where we carried out our mission work was important. Last fall there was also a strange thought that kept coming...the thought that in the spring we would need these flowers. That they would be important. And so my son helped me planting many bulbs. I sat poring over the different colors of flowers one could get and which ones we would plant. In October planting began in earnest. There was not immediate gratification that comes when one goes to a garden store and plants an annual flower plant in the summer that is in full bloom at the time of planting. The bulbs we planted were dormant and needed the cold of winter and to be under the ground to show us any flowers the following spring. We had to wait. But there was an anticipation within our hearts.

This past winter was strangely very mild and the bulbs began to poke through the soil in February, something almost unheard of in our region of the Northeast of the United States. Most commented about the early sprouts, that this was bad because cold weather might be in store and this could damage or kill the buds  and we would have to wait another year for them to bloom.

Yet the cold snap people feared never came. Through March the bulbs continued to mature and then even little flowers began to be visible. It was then, just a few weeks ago that we had some plumbing work done. On returning we found the bulbs we had been following all this time crushed. They had been stepped on. The beautiful buds were destroyed. A couple of intact flowers remained. It was a sad sight. We were so disappointed. Trying to keep my spirits up I tried to let go of it and had the happy thought that maybe the following spring we would have flowers. Not this year I thought but next. We had to wait. It would be okay.

Yet we were to have a big surprise. As the rains came and the warm sun, something amazing happened. The bulbs did not give up. They kept growing. Even the bulbs we thought were completely destroyed managed to display amazing beauty. The smell! Who could describe the smell of hyacinth? This is the best part of these bulbs. Even more important than their beauty is their smell. They smell heavenly. We did not have to wait until next year. The flowers seemed even more precious since they defied all the unfortunate effects of being trampled upon.

Today during Palm Sunday Mass I thought of these flowers. I thought of how they were crushed. Yet despite all adversities such as we are undergoing with the Coronavirus Pandemic, the bulbs bloomed and gave off a heavenly fragrance. As we go into Holy Week, let us not give up on this blessed time and say, "We will have to wait until next year to have a true 'Holy Week.'" Let us see that we are not counted out. We can still come close to Our Lord even if we cannot step foot in a Church. We can spend time with Our Lord in prayer. Our Lord does not forget us. God's Providence never fails in its designs. I would never have wished for the flowers to be trampled but something very beautiful indeed followed. Unexpected surely but possibly more precious as a result.

Mass Offered for Seminarians on April 1st 2020

A Mass was offered on April 1st 2020 for all seminarians that they will grow in holiness and lead us all in love. Every month we have a Mass offered for this intention. As our seminarians will be the future shepherds and our children are the future flock, it seemed a beautiful way for the children to help.

We have been periodically featuring different seminarians on the first of the month by inviting them to share something of themselves - a beautiful sharing of faith and love of Our Lord. We will be featuring Santiago Gabriaguez. He is a seminarian from San Lorenzo, Paraguay

I am Santiago Gabriaguez Ojeda, I am 20 years old, and I am from San Lorenzo, Paraguay. I am a seminarian of the Congregación Rogacionista de Corazón de Jesús, and I now am in the second year of philosophy.

I felt my vocation from when I was very little, I always attended Mass and said, "I want to be like the Father that leads the Mass." This restlessness I conveyed to the Parish Priest and there he presented me with the figure of our founder, Saint Anibal as a model to follow in following Jesus. I began to be an altar server at the tender age of 6, since then I have never separated from this beautiful service on the altar. At the age of 11 I began to carry out the vocational experience in the seminary until I finished High School in 2017. I entered the Congregation in 2018.

I want to be a religious serving the Church in the priesthood. I want to be a worker of the harvest closest to my town, bringing the Gospel wherever it is necessary, to serve and educate, to show the love of God in forgiveness and relive each day the sacrifice of the cross.
I count on your prayers.

Send, Lord, Holy Apostles to your Church!

Santiago Gabriaguez O.
Seminarista Rogacionista

We are very excited that Santiago Gabriaguez Ojeda reached out to us with an interest in spreading the Children's Rosary in his native country of Paraguay. We recently sent him a box of rosaries and Children's Rosary materials, which successfully arrived.

We humbly ask that you please keep Santiago Gabriaguez Ojeda in your prayers.

Today is the 15 Year Anniversary of the Passing of St. John Paul II

Cardinal Dziwisz, who was the Secretary to the late Pope John Paul II, has asked all people at 9:37 PM, local time tonight in Poland, to light a candle. This will be the exact 15 year anniversary of the passing of St. John Paul II.

Let us ask St. John Paul II to intercede for us.

Please look up your local time that coincides with 9:37 PM local time in Poland. For those living in the Eastern time in the US it will be 3:37 PM.

St. John Paul II has been a powerful intercessor for the Children's Rosary. All of our Children's Rosary books, CDs, and DVDs have been dedicated to the Holy Trinity, Our Blessed Mother, and in gratitude for the intercession of St. John Paul II.

Providentially, last night my three kids helped in planting a rose officially named, Pope John Paul II, by the Rose Company Jackson and Perkins. We will look forward to the white blooms that may follow.

St. John Paul II Pray For Us

Visit our site www.childrensrosary.org and click "Join in Prayer" when you light your candle. This will add a gold twinkling light to the map of the world.

Vamos a estar presentando Santiago Gabriaguez Ojeda.

¡Envía Señor, Apóstoles Santos a tu Iglesia!

Santiago Gabriaguez O.
Seminarista Rogacionista
