Child Saint, Dominic Savio and his Practices in May

Today in reading the life of St. Dominic Savio written by St. John Bosco there was a chapter on St. Dominic's special devotion to Mary and his practices during the month of May. St. Dominic had a deep love of Our Lady. St. John Bosco describes the boys's love, "His devotion to Our Blessed Lady was like a burning fire within him."   Dominic is said to have "placed his own purity of soul in the keeping of that Immaculate Virgin." In reading the Chapter, the child saint provides some wonderful ideas for May.

St. Dominic went to daily Mass during May. Daily reception of the Sacraments was unusual in his time yet St. Dominic went daily to Mass.

He also erected a little altar in the dormitory in honor of Mary. The boys had no pocket money for creating such an altar. The book recounts how St. Dominic devised a plan. He had several books of some value that he had received as prizes. These he sold and with the money helped purchase special decorations for the altar. Several other boys also had some small items of value and they sold them to contribute to the altar for Mary. In reading this account, it seemed a beautiful idea to create a special home altar for Mary in May.

Today the children and I purchased fresh roses to place before Our Lady. We also placed a candle before Her. We hope to keep fresh flowers by Our Lady throughout the month. We invite others to make a special space especially for Mary in their homes. The idea is from little Dominic Savio who had a great love for Our Lady. He died at the young age of 14. We hope to share more about St. Dominic Savio this month. His Feast day is May 6th!

May We Glorify God

Today we celebrated the fifth Sunday of Easter. Several weeks ago, I heard a priest mention during Mass that the Easter Season is a time for us to, in a special way, glorify God.

How can we glorify God?

In listening to the Gospel reading today these words seemed to speak to this very question:

"If you remain in me and my words remain in you,
ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.
By this is my Father glorified,
that you bear much fruit and become my disciples." (John 15:7-8)

The picture shown to the right was sent to us from one of the Children's Rosary groups in Pakistan. It was taken at the Easter Vigil. Many children are among those holding a candle in the dark street. It is a beautiful thing to contemplate that bringing our worries and needs to God with complete confidence and the gifts He bestows, give glory to Our Heavenly Father.

St. Louis de Montfort Pray for Us

"When Mary has struck her roots in a soul, she produces there marvels of grace"
-St. Louis de Montfort

Today is the Feast of St. Louis de Montfort. This saint had a beautiful devotion to Our Blessed Mother. The above quote was taken from his book: True Devotion to Mary.

Mass Offered on April 25th 2018 for Members of the Children's Rosary

A Mass was offered on April 25th for all the members of the Children's Rosary and all who help the Children's Rosary.  We continue to have a Mass said for the this intention on the 25th of each month. The Eucharist is such a powerful gift from Our Lord that when I wanted to extend thanksgiving to all of you I knew of no better way to express my gratitude.  May Our Lord's love be poured down on all of you through the powerful sacrifice of the Holy Mass.

The picture above is from one of our new Children's Rosary (Rosario de Niños) groups. This new group began meeting in March 2018. They are located at La Paz Parish in Quito, Ecuador.

We welcome this new Children's Rosary group!

Preparing for May

The Month of May has long been dedicated to Mary. In the Encyclical, Mese Maio, Pope Paul VI describes the special opportunity we have to offer more prayers during this month to Our Heavenly Mother and the special graces that are available:
For this is the month during which Christians, in their churches and their homes, offer the Virgin Mother more fervent and loving acts of homage and veneration; and it is the month in which a greater abundance of God's merciful gifts comes down to us from our Mother's throne.
We would like to offer some ideas of ways to make this May special:

We begin by sharing a picture of the Child Jesus. In preparation for May, we have dressed Him in blue. Looking at the Child Jesus, in those beautiful Marian colors, one is reminded how the Child Jesus loved his Mother. How He surely must have done special things for his Mother to make her happy and share His love. Following in this simplicity we try to do the same. Our Lord gave Mary to us as Our Mother and likewise it is very good that we too should give her gifts and honor her. Such kindness must please Our Lord very much as any son would like to see his mother respected and cherished.

1) A Home Marian Procession
Recently one of our Children's Rosary group leaders, shared a tradition she holds in her home. She and her husband along with their children hold a Marian Procession once a month. May will be no exception. She explained that her youngest child carries a candle and leads the procession. A statue of Mary is carried and each of the children carries a picture of Mary. A Marian Hymn is played in the background (which is on repeat). The family has an incensor and that is carried by her husband as the family walks through the home. Once each room has been visited the family comes together and crowns Our Lady. The family then says some short prayers usually ending with a Hail Mary. They hold their monthly procession on a Feast day. This outline can be customized in your home. Many might not have an incesor but one can imagine sprinkling some holy water through the house as a nice addition. The procession could be simplified by carrying a picture of Our Lady through the house.

2) Crowning of Our Lady at a Church or School
One idea for Children's Rosary groups in May is to hold a Crowning of Mary at their Church or School. This works very nicely right before a Children's Rosary group meeting. Children can be gathered at the back of the Church. They can process in together singing a Marian hymn. We have included Hail Holy Queen sung by children on our Glorious CD which is perfect to be played to accompany the children in song. The children could each carry a flower and place it before Our Lady. The last child, often the youngest, can crown Our Lady. After Our Lady is crowned the children can kneel and begin the Rosary. We have step by step instructions with pictures of how to plan a May Crowning HERE.

3) Offer a daily 9 hour Novena to Our Lady in May
At the top of each hour offer three Hail Marys for Our Lady's intentions. Keep the intention simple - purely for Our Lady's intentions. St. John Vianney was fond of praying a Hail Mary at the top of each hour. Likewise before Easter I too began this little effort for Our Lady. As I have a joint disability, I can't wear a watch and I also do not carry a cell phone so I was a bit worried about not knowing the time. One of my children has been trying to help me to remember. Sometimes I do forget and I find it is 10 minutes past the hour and I say the prayers then. Yet as time is going by I find more and more I remember just before the top of the hour. There is a new awareness of time passing and an excitement to remember Our Lady each hour that passes. My humble suggestion is don't give up if you miss an hour. Recently I have been pretty sick and the novena has been a real blessing since I have been too sick to walk to daily Mass. When you lose a bit of your routine this is a wonderful way to create one in a simple and beautiful way.

4) Help a Children's Rosary group receive Rosaries
We received a note on Sunday from the Children's Rosary group leader in Pakistan. There are approximately 18 Children's Rosary groups in his diocese and a new group is forming that needs Rosaries. He also let us know, we need more rosaries as you know next month is May. He indicated that all groups will pray daily in church. He concluded with this request, so send us more rosaries as early as possible. A large flat rate package to Pakistan costs $92.00. May is a very busy time for us. There are many individuals who would like to begin groups but need materials. There are also groups that are expanding that need more rosaries. Help us continue to respond to these requests. Give Our Lady the gift of more children meeting together in Children's Rosary prayer groups to pray the Rosary. Donations can be made out to Children's Rosary and mailed to
PO Box 271743
West Hartford, CT 06127 USA
Donations can be made electronically HERE.

5) Purchase a ten pack of Children's Rosary books and give them away.
Each Children's Rosary book is a seed for a new group. Even if you have no idea who you would give one to...order a 10 pack anyway. They will go. Begin carrying one in your pocket or purse and see how fast it goes. Our Lady has a way of putting you in places with people who could use it. Ask Our Lady and the Holy Spirit to find homes for the books. Though you may not know the fruits of this little gift given to Our Lady here on earth, trust that Our Lady makes use of every opportunity given to her to reach souls...especially children. What great merit will be given to a soul that tries to bring little ones to Our Lady and through her to Jesus. Books can be ordered in the United States HERE. Books can be ordered in Europe HERE. Our full collection of Children's Rosary materials is provided with each link.

Mass held in the Philippines to Celebrate the 7 Year Anniversary of the Children's Rosary

The Children's Rosary from San Isidro Parish Cathedral held a special Anniversary Mass on April 10th. We received this note from the group leader on April 11th:
We celebrated Children's Rosary Founding Anniversary yesterday. We offered a Mass presided by Fr. Juverson Mabasa at Sto. Niño Chapel, Barangay 9, Malaybalay City. Here are the pictures:

The group leader shared that she was able to make arroz caldo for a snack after the Mass for the children. More more I am seeing through the years and the reports of different groups, that having little snacks of food when possible for the children after meetings or on special celebrations is a welcome addition.

We are so grateful for the special effort the children and adults made to remember the beginning of the Children's Rosary. In keeping with the example of Our Lady who always points to her Son, it is beautiful to see the children remembering the day by attending a Mass. The Mass was held on the exact Anniversary date of Tuesday April 10th.

We also received word that there are efforts to begin an additional Children's Rosary group in Malaybalay. Please keep these efforts and the group leader who has had poor health, requiring hospitalization, in your prayers. Thank you.

54 Masses Offered

On April 18th we concluded an Anniversary novena of Masses. This has become an annual tradition each year to have 2 consecutive 9 day novenas of Masses celebrated surrounding the anniversary of the Children's Rosary which is April 10th.

From April 1st through April 9th three Masses were said daily for the fulfillment of Our Lady's plans. From April 10th until April 18th three Masses were said daily in thanksgiving. We are grateful to the many people who contributed donations which allowed us to request 54 Masses in total. It is interesting this novena of Masses turned out to mirror in many ways a 54 day Rosary novena. We had 27 Masses in petition and 27 Masses in thanksgiving. One of the other interesting things we noticed during these 18 days was the many days we had snow.

Snow in April in Connecticut can certainly happen although somewhat unusual. Yet we had snow many days during the novena. Even this past Monday April 16th we had ice falling that covered many plants and even the new pansies the kids had planted two days earlier. There is something very special about a new snow fall. There is something majestic about it. A fresh coat of snow makes everything look new and clean. It also seemed to increase the expectation of many in the region for spring or at least the warm days of spring. Yet today we had a beautiful surprise, seeds the kids had planted were up!

In discussing with my husband, who is Jewish,  our 7 year anniversary of the Children's Rosary, I mentioned how it felt particularly special since there are many Biblical references to the year 7. There are also agricultural connections to the year 7. Having attended a lecture on gardening one of the speakers mentioned that if you have diseases with your tomato plants one of the ways to get rid of it is to let the land lay fallow for 7 years. Essentially seven years is needed to "clean"  or renew the soil. My husband mentioned that the number 18 is significant in the Jewish faith. He explained that the Hebrew letters also represent numbers. The Hebrew letter that represents 18 also means "life". Therefore many Jewish people give monetary gifts such as at Bar Mitzvahs in multiples of 18.  Seeing that our anniversary novena ended on the 18th it was interesting to contemplate the connection with life coming forth.

During our anniversary novena of Masses, we had a surprise. This past weekend a message came across our Children's Rosary website (www.childrensrosary.org) that indicated the memory on the site was exceeded. This was good news in many ways as it was an indication of the growth we have seen. The number of groups and meetings that were scheduled had reached a level too high to be accommodated on a simple shared server. While we were able to remove some information that allowed us to drop temporarily under the memory limit we realized our days on the shared server were very limited. The news is in many ways exciting. There is a feeling that Our Lady is preparing us for what is to come and readying us to accommodate even more groups and display many more meetings of children praying around the world. Given our rather immediate need to move to a larger server and the cost associated with the migration, we are humbly asking for donations to help with this effort.

We see this move as a way to update some functions on the registration and provide the site many more years of growth and functionality. This site is a multi-lingual site integrating English, Spanish and French information and interactive functionality on the View from Heaven map. As the numbers of visitors to the site has also grown we have experienced the site crash do to the number of people visiting the site. This new home for the Children's Rosary website would allow us to accommodate high traffic to the site. This will allow Our Lady the resources to reach more souls including many children.

If people are able to help us we would be most grateful. We are hoping to raise $7,000.
Donations are tax deductible in the United States.

Donations can be made out to Children's Rosary and mailed to:
PO Box 271743
West Hartford, CT 06127 USA
Donations can also be made online HERE

Thank you for your generosity. We are excited to see where Our Lady is leading us.

May Our Lady and Our Lord bless you and your families.

A Beautiful Way to Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy with Children

We would like to share a Chaplet of Divine Mercy recorded by two members of the Children's Rosary. This can be heard free on our website HERE.

May I humbly share the background of this recording. Once a month members of the Children's Rosary lead a LIVE Rosary on Radio Maria Radio. The children are also asked to lead a Chaplet of Divine Mercy. My small role in the hour is to introduce various parts. Month after month I would listen to these two young girls leading the Chaplet. It was one of the most moving versions of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy I have heard. It was so precious to hear little Emily, age 6, with her pleading voice saying, "Have mercy on us and on the whole world".

As time has a way of moving very fast, we felt that before such a precious moment was lost we should record these two sweet girls praying the Chaplet.  This version of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is available on our website.

Permission for the audio recording of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy was granted by the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Remembering Sister Dang

We recently received the sad news that Sr. Dang died on the Wednesday before Easter.  She was buried on Good Friday. Sr. Dang was the Children's Rosary group leader at Bui Chu Orphanage in Vietnam. She is pictured above in purple kneeling next to Tran who is also kneeling with a white t shirt and wearing glasses. We humbly ask those seeing this post to say a Hail Mary for the repose of her soul. She loved the Children's Rosary.

Tran was able to visit her grave and bring flowers. He will be visiting the children on April 15th at Bui Chu Orphanage. The children in this group meet daily at 11AM local time in Vietnam (midnight ET). They will continue to hold their Children's Rosary group meetings.

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also"

We recently received this Spiritual Bouquet in honor of the Children's Rosary Anniversary. The Children's Rosary Apostolate, members and benefactors were enrolled for one year as a patron of the Grotto Shrine in honor of Our Lady of Lourdes. This enrollment includes remembrance at daily Mass and all Sunday Masses as well as a special monthly Mass the first Saturday of each month, remembrance in the intentions of the Rosary recited at the Grotto during May and October, and special remembrance on August 15th the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin.

These Masses will be celebrated at the:
Shrine in Honor of Our Lady of Lourdes Assumption Church
13770 Gratiot Avenue
Detroit, Michigan 48205 USA

A short history of the Shrine was given on the back of the card:
On May 29th 1881 the Grotto Shrine in Honor of Our Lady of Lourdes was formally dedicated. One year later, April 30 1882 Pope Leo XIII signed a proclamation authorizing the shrine for devotions and granted partial and plenary indulgences for all who visited the Grotto and prayer for the propagation of the faith.

We are very grateful for this beautiful Spiritual Bouquet! These prayers are indeed a great treasure. Their value is stored in heaven safe from earthly decay and of great benefit to us all.

Masses of Thanksgiving

On Easter we began a 9 day novena of Masses for the fulfillment of Our Lady's plans for the Children's Rosary. As the children and I looked around our home all nature seemed ready to burst forth. Buds were just waiting to open and yet they were not. We shared the picture below which was taken on Easter.

We could imagine as we looked at the forsythia buds that in a similar way Our Lady's plans were just waiting to unfold. On the second day of the novena a layer of snow covered all the bushes in our yard. In a special way, the layer of crystal white snow seemed a special blessing. The buds still tightly shut were each capped with a delicate cover of snow.
The warm sun came out and the snow quickly melted. Many of the days of the novena snow was seen falling. Sometimes just a brief snow flurry in the morning other days much more snow. On April 9th, the last of the Masses were said for the fulfillment of Our Lady's plans for the Children's Rosary. In total 3 Masses were said daily for 9 days totally 27 Masses. On April 10th the 7 year anniversary of the Children's Rosary more snow fell. These pictures were taken on the anniversary (see below):

The buds that at the beginning of the novena had been all closed now had opened. Each flower was washed with snow and clear water dripped from the petals. We marveled to see nature and how it seemed to so beautifully reflect how we hoped to help Our Lady unfold Her plans. Toward the end of the day my husband came home from work. He shared that during his drive home a rainbow had come across the sky. He had snapped a picture but as in many cases with pictures it did not capture the full majesty of the moment.

One might wonder what has happened? Masses were offered but what has resulted. What was Our Lady able to purchase with those Masses? What has unfolded? The answer is simply: Trust. We are little children. Our Heavenly Mother sees so much and our role as children is not to question but simply to give the little we have to Our Lady and do it with love. She is working to be sure. On Divine Mercy Sunday on the ground before the Blessed Sacrament several pictures were put out by the priest overseeing the event. The pictures were created with broken glass. There was a picture of Our Lord on the sea. In the distance was a boat with the apostles inside. As I looked at this scene my heart was drawn in. One word kept coming into my heart: Trust. We are surely on a boat at sea. Our Lady is close at hand but out on the water is her Son. Our Lady in Her gentleness reassures us that we are headed in the right direction. She guides our gaze to our sole focus which is Jesus. It is His pleasure we seek. The Masses and prayers are not to bring us satisfaction at what is attained but rather to bring joy to Jesus through the work of Our Lady.

Indeed, Our Lady helps us to not lose focus and to stay perfectly on course. Her plans are always perfectly aligned to the plans of God.

Beginning on April 10th we began a second novena of Masses. These were Masses offered in thanksgiving. Three Masses daily will be celebrated through April 18th. In total 27 Masses will be celebrated in thanksgiving. The total number of Masses between the two novenas is 54. Our role now is to thank God for His generosity in helping to further Our Lady's plans. We trust God has granted great gifts to Our Blessed Mother. As trusting children now we simply thank Him.

Anniversary Surprise!

We received these pictures from Pakistan last night on the eve of the 7th Anniversary of the Children's Rosary. The children worked very hard first tracing an outline of the Rosary with chalk and then placing by hand each candle.

Slowly the candles were lit and the full Rosary became illuminated. Breathtaking!

We have spoken many times of how the children's prayers are like twinkling lights illuminating the darkness...how these lights might be seen from heaven.

We thank the children for this beautiful gift on the Anniversary of the Children's Rosary. Their little hearts who have embraced prayer and are directed to heaven are an inspiration to all of us.

Children's Rosary 7 Year Anniversary Celebration

Today we celebrated the Children's Rosary Anniversary. The Children's Rosary has been meeting monthly uninterrupted for 7 years at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in West Hartford, Connecticut USA. This is the home of the Children's Rosary. From the beginning, we have met on the second Sunday of the month. This year the second Sunday of the month fell on Divine Mercy celebration.

In keeping with our tradition the children met at 9:45 AM in our lower chapel. This week we had a wonderful surprise. The missionary image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was in the region and we were asked if we would like to have Our Lady at the Children's Rosary. We were thrilled to accept such a beautiful offer.

This morning we had many children attend who have been involved with the Children's Rosary from the early years.

One women in attendance shared that she felt her heart fill with love as she entered the chapel for the Children's Rosary. We felt great joy today. We carried all the members of the Children's Rosary with us in prayer. We also prayed for all of those unifying in prayer with us. We began the meeting with a Re-Consecration of the Children's Rosary to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary. We continue to put this individual group as well as the Children's Rosary prayer group movement as a whole under the protection and guidance of Christ and His Mother.

A handmade card was also made for Our Lady which we placed before the children praying. Within the card listed the Masses we have requested both for the fulfillment of Our Lady's plans for the Children's Rosary and also the Masses in thanksgiving.

At the conclusion of the prayers the children sang our theme song "Rosary Children". One of the individuals who brought the Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe had brought a first class relic of St. Therese the Little Flower to the meeting. This was another sweet surprise for the children. We also have a first class relic of St. Faustina that is kept in the Chapel. Both relics were made available for veneration at the end of the Rosary (veneration of the relics shown below).

Following the Children's Rosary, there was Mass and then a special Bruch to celebrate the anniversary. During the brunch, there was an opportunity to learn how to make a Rosary. We are grateful for all those whole helped today. Some brought food and some helped in teaching others how to make Rosaries.
Everyone had their fill and yet there was more left over. The extra was packed up and brought to Immaculate Conception Shelter where more people could enjoy the abundance. God is good all the time.

One of the little things we did to make the day special was to have a Cupcake Rosary. The children had helped to make the cupcakes. Asher decided with each cupcake he frosted he would say a Hail Mary for Our Lady's Intentions.

He was very particular that the prayers be started only once he began frosting the cupcake. Alina and I followed his lead and accompanied his prayers. Each cupcake had a Hail Mary said. Each time he picked up a new cupcake we also chose a different saint and asked that saint to pray for us. This took the project of frosting the cupcakes and infused it with prayer. Excitement grew as we waited to see who each person would choose to ask for their prayers. There was only one saint mentioned per cupcake. We took turns so there was some patience needed as one would think of a perfect saint to mention but we had to wait our turn to say the saint. The saints have become friends and so it comes to mind often to ask for their help. Our Lady in her school of the Rosary has opened the children's hearts to the saints and learning about them and asking for their help. Today as people took their cupcakes we shared how each cupcake represented prayers that had been said. This made it extra special. To the little children that came to take the cupcakes we also asked them if they would say a Hail Mary for Our Lady before they ate the cupcake. Some stopped in the line of food and said the prayer even before finding a seat. Indeed prayers were woven throughout the day. But this was not burdensome. There was a joy mingled with everything.

One last thing to share. In anticipation of the anniversary we painted a platter with the Children's Rosary logo. This was hand painted and then fired in a kiln. It was a gift to Our Lady.

We thank all those who help with the Children's Rosary in so many different ways. The Children's Rosary represents a tapestry of people and children from around the world. When we give anything to Our Lady it comes from all of us.

On this Feast of Divine Mercy may God shower graces and blessings on all the members of the Children's Rosary and your dear families.

God Bless You!
