Happy Feast of Bl. Marta Wiecka

May 30th is the Feast of Bl. Marta Wiecka. She has been a great intercessor for the Children's Rosary. We are blessed to have a relic of Bl. Wiecka. Today in a special way, I have asked for her intercession for all those who are involved with and help the Children's Rosary.

Bl. Marta Wiecka lived between 1874 and 1904. She was a sister of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. She was the third of thirteen children and was born on January 12th in Nowy Wieck Poland. Marta was a helpful and prayerful child. She entered the convent on April 26th 1892 and her first mission was to work in a hospital. She was known for her love of her patients. During her work in Sniatyn, she became aware that a young nurse who was also a father had been assigned to disinfecting the room of someone with highly contagious Typhoid fever. She understood that the young nurse was fearful to clean the room. Sister Wiecka offered to take the young man's place and clean the room. As a result, she became sick with Typhoid fever and died on May 30th 1904.

Bl Wiecka is known for her patronage of Nursing.

Novena to the Holy Spirit 2020

Novena to the Holy Spirit
Dearest Holy Spirit, confiding in Your deep, personal love for me, I am making this novena for the following request, if it be Your Holy Will to grant it:(mention your request*).
Teach me, Divine Spirit, to know and seek my last end; grant me the holy fear of God; grant me true contrition and patience. Do not let me fall into sin. Give me an increase of faith, hope and charity, and bring forth in my soul all the virtues proper to my state in life.
Make me a faithful disciple of Jesus and an obedient child of the Church. Give me efficacious grace sufficient to keep the Commandments and to receive the Sacraments worthily.
Give me the four Cardinal Virtues, Your Seven Gifts, Your Twelve Fruits.
Raise me to perfection in the state of life to which You have called me and lead me through a happy death to everlasting life.
I ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
(novena obtained from EWTN website)
*May the Holy Spirit blow through our hearts, families, parish and the Children's Rosary as in the first Pentecost bringing us a renewed Spirit of prayer and love of God and neighbor.

The Friday after Ascension Thursday is the day Mary and the Apostles began the very first novena to the Holy Spirit.  May we too begin a novena calling down the Spirit to blow through our hearts, families, and parishes as in the first Pentecost bringing a renewed Spirit of prayer and love of God and neighbor.
The photo above was taken on Divine Mercy Sunday of this year. The prior day we had, had snow in Connecticut and on Divine Mercy Sunday it was very warm with many trees in full bloom for spring. The sun was beating down on the two snowmen. Children had clearly worked hard to make these magnificent creations. Yet a thought kept coming: there is no time to lose. When you look at a snowman in the sun, you feel time passing and you are acutely aware that with each passing minute more of the snowman is gone. By the afternoon, the littler of the snowmen had only two bumps and was disappearing fast.
We have precious time these days. Many are home with their families. Let us take this time to pray. Following in the example of Our Blessed Mother and the apostles, let us prepare for the Holy Feast of Pentecost in prayer. The Novena to the Holy Spirit is one way to prepare ourselves. We hope you will join us in prayer.

100th Birthday of St. John Paul II

May 18th 2020 is the 100th Birthday of St. John Paul II. Our Children's Rosary books, CDs and DVD are dedicated to the Holy Trinity, Our Blessed Mother and in gratitude for the intercession of St. John Paul II. We have always found St. John Paul II to be a great friend to the Children's Rosary. As today was approaching the Children's Rosary began to get many special favors. We found out that EWTN will be airing the Children's Rosary in the US today at 4:30 PM Eastern Time. Next we heard that EWTN Español will be re-airing the Nuestra Fe en Vivo interview about the Children's Rosary with Asher from 2017. This interview originally helped to spread the Children's Rosary (Rosario de Niños) through many Spanish speaking countries. There are also several projects we have been working on that seem to have taken a big step forward in the last day.

Here is some information if you would like to learn more about starting a Children's Rosary prayer group in your parish, school or orphanage.

Deeply Rooted

On Friday May 15th, the Feast of St. Isidore the farmer, we decided to harvest one of the parsnips from our garden. When my daughter tried to pull it up, the lush green top ripped off. Apparently this parsnip wasn't going to come out easily. She then began digging around the edge of the root. She is very strong and despite all her pulling it still would not come out. She began using a stick to loosen the soil and with her fingers excavated around the root. This process when on for some time. Eventually the root came out. It was impressive. The root was about 10 inches long. My husband thought this one root would be enough for 5 of us to have with our dinner tonight.

In reflecting on this parsnip, there are some interesting things to consider. If one were to plant a parsnip in the late spring which is usually when farmers plant parsnips the plants have warm weather to grow and when harvest comes they are easy to harvest and not nearly as long as the one my daughter pulled out last Friday. So what is the difference? Well, this parsnip began growing last season, most likely in the fall. It survived a cold winter and set down deep roots. As with most plants that are able to survive the winter, such as kale, as soon as the weather turns warm they shoot up and try to make seeds. They do not waste any time.

In many ways one could see how suffering has a similar effect on us and our faith. When we have been tested and come through challenges we are more deeply rooted. We also value time and want to pass on that faith in a special way. We do not put off passing on that faith to our children but set to work right away.  When our roots are deep many things may try to push against us and uproot us but this is not so easy. Many may be suffering during these times of the Coronavirus pandemic but what effect has on the roots of our faith?

How to Plan a Home Marian Procession

Watch our new Children's Rosary video explaining how to plan a Home Marian Procession by clicking on the link HERE.

The following are the 4 basic steps to holding a Home Marian Procession:
1) A statue or picture of Our Blessed Mother is carried to each room of the home.
2) A Marian hymn can be played or sung during the Procession.
3) There is the optional use of holy water that can be sprinkled through the house as one processes. Members of the family can also carry candles.
4) After each room is visited, Our Lady can be brought to where the procession was begun. At this point the family can say prayers such as the Rosary. One may even consider crowning Our Lady with a crown of fresh flowers especially if the procession is held during the month of May.

Consider holding a Marian Procession during the month of May which is dedicated to Our Blessed Mother. It is also a wonderful tradition to hold a monthly Marian procession with your children. Choose a Marian feast each month and have the youngest person in the family help lead the Procession. Customize it according to your family. To help enjoy the feast, bake some muffins or a dessert. This is always a welcome addition to enjoy after the procession with your children.

Our Lady's Work Continues

On May 1st three large boxes were sent to Fr. Paul in Nigeria. Fr. Paul is currently involved in educating future Catechists from 5 dioceses in his country. Within the boxes that were sent, 270 Children's Rosary books were included. Each book can serve as a seed for a new Children's Rosary prayer group. One box included 125 parish welcome packets and 10 school welcome packets. We also included 672 handmade rosaries. We are very excited that these boxes were able to go out on the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker and the first day of Our Lady's month of May. We thank all those who lovingly make rosaries for the Children's Rosary and all those who help to sponsor packages. We are in need of more donations to continue this work. Please consider helping us continue Our Lady's work to reach more children and help to bring them to prayer.

Donations can be made HERE.

"Have courage; the good seed will grow up in the children's hearts later on."- Bl. Edmund Rice

Today is the Feast of Bl. Edmund Rice.

Bl Edmund Ignatius Rice: Irish, farmer, widower, founder of the Christian Brothers and the Presentation Brothers, died in 1844.  Bl Edmund used all his financial means to care for his daughter and open schools for the poor children in Ireland. His first school was in a converted stable.  As it was difficult to find teachers to stay and teach the children, whom many were brought from the streets, Bl Edmund took on the work of educating new teachers.  He devoted himself to finding individuals grounded in prayer and who were willing to volunteer their time. Edmund was beatified by Pope John Paul II on Oct 6 1996.
Bl Edmund Ignatius Rice we ask for your intercession to help the Children's Rosary to reach more children and help to bring them to prayer especially in schools. May we water the seeds of faith in our children's hearts with prayer.
Here are some resources to help start a Children's Rosary in your school:

Seeds Going Out

Today my daughter took a picture of this dandelion pictured above. These plants grow as weeds in our region. Adults work hard to get them out of their yards. When a flower has gone to seed such as the one in the photograph, most adults quickly grab these heads before any of the seeds are blown away. One good burst of wind and the weeds can be sent throughout the yard and beyond depending on how strong the wind is blowing. Yet, kids love to pick these seed heads and blow them to the dismay of their parents. But today my daughter seemed to find a beauty in these dandelions and began taking pictures of them. We were on our way to meet Fr. Richard Okiria. He was coming to pick up a barrel packed with over 7,000 rosaries, almost all handmade, that will be sent via a cargo ship to Uganda. These rosaries will be given to Children's Rosary groups. When the ship leaves it will carry four barrels from the Children's Rosary with over 25,000 rosaries combined. As we walked back from meeting Fr. Richard, my daughter mentioned that the seeds that had been on the dandelion were now all gone. It seemed a beautiful way to imagine the rosaries that were now being driven away by Fr. Richard Okiria. We never know exactly how long it will take for them to get to their destination. With the pandemic there is even more uncertainty. Yet seeds were going out into to the world. Little hearts wait for them. These rosaries are for children. It gives one great hope to think of all Our Lady can do with so many rosaries and so many children, who by the grace of God, will use them to pray the Rosary.

Children Unite in Prayer During the Pandemic

The Children's Rosary is a prayer group movement where children meet together in Churches, schools or in orphanages to pray the Rosary. Since the pandemic has hit, many schools and Churches are closed. Yet the children are not blocked from picking up their rosaries. The Children's Rosary from the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Waterbury, Connecticut would have met at 3:30 PM today in the Church. With the current pandemic, the children could not meet together at the the Church to pray.  Yet, the children still knelt in prayer at 3:30 PM united from where they were. Five families who participate in the group united in prayer.

Four families were in their homes and one family prayed outside at the Shrine of Lourdes in Litchfield, Connecticut.

The children look forward to when they once again can meet together and pray but for now they are connected in prayer through the Rosary! We thank the children for their dedication to prayer. Our families and world are in so much need of the children's prayers. We hope these children will be an inspiration to other families and children to begin Children's Rosary prayer groups in their parishes and schools. Find out more at this: link

Three Years Ago Today on May 1st 2017

On May 1st 2017 the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker and the first day of Our Lady's month of May, the Children's Rosary received a gift. EWTN featured the Children's Rosary on two shows. Nuestra Fe en Vivo aired a program on the Children's Rosary in Spanish. Host Pepe Alonso interviewed, Asher Kaufman age 10, a member of the Children's Rosary. If you have not had a chance to see this interview it is very special. The link is HERE.
At Home with Jim and Joy also featured a program that highlighted the Children's Rosary.

Many beautiful fruits came through those airings and we would like to thank God, Our Lady and the people at EWTN for their kindness to help spread the Children's Rosary. For those who may not have seen the programs links to both are provided below:
