More Good News from Uganda!

The news is very good from Uganda. The picture above was taken on Sunday January 14th when the Pastor Consecrated the Children's Rosary group at his Parish: Mary Mother of Divine Shepherd in Uganda to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary. Children from the sub-parishes came for the Consecration. Approximately 200 children were present for the Consecration of the new Children's Rosary group. There was food for the children after the Consecration (see picture below).

The Pastor wrote to us today with more good news. A new Children's Rosary group will start at St. Bonaventure Primary School in Mulajje, Uganda on February 5th 2018. We welcome all these children to the Children's Rosary. To think of the sheer number of children that are now meeting regularly in their Children's Rosary prayer groups is an exciting thing to contemplate. All heaven must be taking delight in such a wave of prayers from the little ones.

New Children's Rosary in Vietnam to meet on February 10th 2018

We are excited to share that a new Children's Rosary group will be forming at Gia Phat Parish in Vietnam (picture below). Tran was recently able to give them a statue of Our Lady for the new Children's Rosary group. This is not a statue that we had sent, this is a gift from one Children's Rosary group to another group. One can see the beautiful statue of Our Lady above. The new group will hold their first meeting on February 10th 2018. They have chosen a weekly meeting time at the Church of Saturdays from 7-8PM local time.
Giang, pictured with the white shirt, is helping to initiate this group. He plans to become a priest and enter the Salesians of St. John Bosco this spring. Please keep his vocation in your prayers and he has promised to pray for the Children's Rosary.

Mass offered on January 25th 2018 for all the Members of the Children's Rosary

A Mass was offered today for all the members of the Children's Rosary and all who help the Children's Rosary.  We continue to have a Mass said for the this intention on the 25th of each month. The Eucharist is such a powerful gift from Our Lord that when I wanted to extend thanksgiving to all of you I knew of no better way to express my gratitude.  May Our Lord's love be poured down on all of you through the powerful sacrifice of the Holy Mass.

The pictures above were recently sent to us from the Children's Rosary (Rosario de Niños) at the Santuario de la Misericordia Divina in Resistencia- Chaco, Argentina.

"Time is Running Out"

Today at Mass in the second reading Paul states, "...time is running out" (1 Cor 7:29). This simple phrase caught hold of my heart. Recently time has been something that has been in my thoughts and prayers. In the fall our family met a couple who was beginning their retirement. The husband shared with me an image that he felt captured what he was experiencing. He described a bathtub which is full of water and the drain is open. In the beginning, the water height does not seem to change much but when there is only an inch or two left all of a sudden the water seems to speed up and quickly all is gone down the drain. This he said is what it feels like when you are at retirement age. There is only an inch or two left in the tub and the water is going down FAST.

I could appreciate this although I have yet to reach the age of retirement. It seems that the more time we spend in prayer the more our heart is made away of how precious is our time on earth. We are travelers and our time here is but short in terms of eternity. We are as flowers that have a short time to bloom and then are gone. Life when we are young seems so long. As we look at our children, we wish to impart this appreciation of time. Yet how can one do this unless you experience it yourself? It has been my humble experience that when we put ourselves under the care of Our Blessed Mother She helps a soul albeit young understand the mysteries of time. She gives a soul an appreciation of time and a desire to see it used well.

One thing that I bring to Our Lady in prayer is the request that when I stand before the Lord I will not see all that I could have accomplished here on earth. Instead, I ask her to help me make use of every moment of time to do the Will of God whatever that may be. In the Gospel today when the Apostles were called to be fishers of men they did not delay. They dropped their nets and followed. Indeed there is no time to lose!

Pictures from the New Children's Rosary in Vietnam that Met Yesterday

A new Children's Rosary group met for the first time yesterday at Hoa Loan Parish in Vietnam. The new group was Consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary at the first meeting. We ask that each Children's Rosary group be Consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary at the first meeting. In this way, each group is under the protection and guidance of Christ and His Mother.

We would like to thank Tran who is a Children's Rosary group leader from Bien Hoa City in Vietnam for sending this group a statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. He also shared some of the Children's Rosary bookmarks and Rosaries we had previously sent him. It is beautiful to see how the Lord works through one group to touch other children and initiate other groups.  The imagery of a pebble being thrown into a pond always comes to mind. The ripples of grace that come from one Children's Rosary go out and they bring beautiful fruits.

Yesterday along with the pictures that were sent to us from the meeting we also received this message:
"The children are happy to meet. They prayed together and sang hymns. The children prayed with their hearts."

We welcome the children from this new Children's Rosary at Hoa Loan Parish. We also thank those who were able to unify prayers with this new group when they had their first meeting. We saw your lights on the View from Heaven map!

Novena for Christian Unity January 18-26th 2018

Novena for Christian Unity through the Intercession of Bl. Maria Gabriella

God please hear our supplication through the intercession of Bl. Maria Gabriella for Christian unity. May each of us and the Children's Rosary be an instrument in Your hands to knit all that has been pulled apart into one tapestry of prayer, love and peace doing all according to Your holy Will.

Remembering the words from Scripture when Our Lord prayed, "May all be one; even as You Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me". (John 17:21) Amen.

Please say 3 Glory Be prayers each day for 9 days accompanied by the prayer above.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins on January 18th 2018. We therefore thought it timely to pray in a special way for Christian Unity in a Novena.  As Bl. Gabriella dedicated her life for the intention of Christian Unity it seemed particularly special to pray through her intercession.

A Rosary will be prayed each day of the novena before a first class relic of Bl. Gabriella for the intention above and for those individuals joining us in this novena.

Bl. Gabriella was born in 1914 and died at the age of 25 in 1939.  She was beatified on January 25th by Pope John Paul II.

New Children's Rosary at St. Joseph School in Pakistan

There is exciting news to share from Pakistan. A new Children's Rosary group began on October 4th at St. Joseph Haghi School in Pakistan. The children were able to pray at a large event held at the school during the days of October 4,5, 6th of 2017.

There were performances done over these days. One can see the elaborate costumes the children wore during those days.

The group leader was able to visit the different classes and give the children Rosaries we had sent. These rosaries the children use during their Children's Rosary meetings.

There are 125 children who participate in the Children's Rosary at the school. During the month of October, the children met daily to pray the Rosary.

They now continue to meet weekly on Fridays between 10-11AM local time. We welcome this new Children's Rosary group to the Children's Rosary.

Epiphany Surprise!

This is a follow-up to the Epiphany Sunday 2018 post. In that post we shared that there was a new Children's Rosary group which had formed at Mary Mother of Divine Shepherd Parish in Uganda. Two additional Children's Rosary groups had also formed in the outposts of this Parish.

We shared the story of these children on Epiphany Sunday as we celebrated the gift of these new groups to Our Lord. God in His generosity had a surprise for the children when they arrived for their Children's Rosary Sunday. A new baby goat had been born that day at the Church. This brought excitement for the children. Both pictures shown above were taken on Epiphany Sunday. The children shown in the photo are members of the Children's Rosary at Mary Mother of Divine Shepherd Parish in Uganda. The Parish has a few goats but a new baby always brings joy. It is wonderful to think and marvel at the care Our Lord takes to give gifts to us at just the right time. He does it not because we deserve the gifts but because He takes pleasure in sharing His love with us. One can imagine the children laughing and playing with the baby goat. It gives me great joy to think of them. Oh, how kind Our Lord is to us... we think to give Him gifts on Epiphany and it is He who comes bearing gifts.

Epiphany Sunday 2018

It is with great excitement I share with you the formation of three new Children's Rosary groups in Uganda. These are our first Children's Rosary groups in the Diocese of Kasana-Luwero.  We celebrate this in a special way today, Epiphany Sunday, when we remember the Magi bringing gifts before the crib of Jesus.

What are the treasures we have to share with Our Lord? One of our most precious treasures we can share with Our Lord is our children. Look at some of the members of the Children's Rosary from Mary Mother of Divine Shepherd Parish in Uganda.

One can imagine that all Heaven delights to see them kneeling in prayer of the Rosary before their Mother Mary. Today the Pastor pictured below will be meeting with seminarians and others who will help him in bringing more of the children of the parish together into Children's Rosary prayer groups. Let us pray for him in this endeavor. He has 17 outposts in his parish. So far he has been able to initiate three groups: one in the main parish and two additional ones in the outposts.

A Child's Cross Made Out of Snow

Yesterday afternoon around 3PM we gathered to say the Rosary. Outside the wind howled and snow swirled. We were in the middle of the "bomb cyclone".  As we described yesterday, the size and severity of this storm were considerable. While the kids had spent some of the day outside, an idea came just before starting the Rosary.

The idea was to make a large Cross on our front lawn out of snow. Kostin, our 13 year old son, was so excited by this idea he could barely last through the Rosary. Light would be going quickly as the days are short in the winter and the temperatures were dropping.  Both our boys headed out. Kostin told Asher he would need help. The vertical tower went up fast. Watching from the window and seeing the wind I began to think I was watching a Jenga game. One after another buckets of snow were pilled on top of one another reaching to almost 7 feet. A step stool was even brought out.  It was with the last bucket at around 7 feet tall that the whole column went tumbling down. Oh, I thought nice try. But this would not deter the two.

They were quickly back to making their column again. Water was added which quickly froze to help provide strength. The snow was very dry and would not stick together so water was needed.  Asher our 10 year old came in to reveal his gloves which had been dipped in the water now had icicles at the tip. His poor fingers were so cold. Work continued. The center column seemed stable but there was the question of how to  add the cross portion. Different attempts were made. One attempt with sticks did not work and caused a destabilized of the column and collapse.
Then Kostin had a clever idea. He rebuilt the column up to the level of where he would have the cross begin and taking a board he stuck it in a bucket of snow. He did this on both ends making a dumbbell shape. Then the two boys tried to lift it. They struggled together in the wind. It was a mighty feat to raise it up high enough. And then it was there in place. There was excitement but within moments it was down again. The board now was taken up by Kostin who beat it into the snow. The attempts went on well after dark. It was hard to believe they could stand the cold. Yet they did.

But as 7PM came, the troops were tired. There was only a heap of snow...no cross. I encouraged Kostin that the following day he could try again. Indeed, with the new day he asked to go out and try again. This time he went out alone. The wind was so cold. After a long time of working he came inside. He wanted to show us the Cross he had made. It stood beautifully in front of our house. The sign in our window was also visible that said Christ is Born. I could not get over how cold it was when I went outside and could not believe he had been out for so long. After Asher took a few pictures, Kostin went to work with a new idea.

He wanted to add rays to the Cross. He used icicles that had formed on the side of our house to make the rays. Kostin came to call us out again to see the final creation. It was just noon on the First Friday of the Month which seemed appropriate. As we stood in front of the house looking at this Cross a car went by and beeped. It was the priest from the Church near our house. We screamed and pointed at the Cross. We were so excited for someone to see it.

There had been so much work...so many failed attempts in the cold and wind but perseverance had payed off. There was a beautiful pure white Cross that stood despite the beating wind that blew against it. The Cross had glistening rays of ice that came forth from the Cross harkening to Easter only a few months away and also to the Mercy of Our Lord. We took a moment to Consecrate this Cross to Jesus through Mary. It was a gift from the heart given with love. We sprayed the Cross with holy water we had for blessing our house. We wanted it to be a blessed Cross that might touch hearts. We prayed before the Cross for our family but also for all the members of the Children's Rosary. You were with us during this project. We are so excited to share this Cross made out of snow with all of you.

"Bomb Cyclone" Hits East Coast of the United States

For veterans of snow storms in the North East of the United States this week we have been hearing terms unfamiliar to us. My husband had to ask, "what is a Snow Bomb?" To which he was told it is a hurricane in a snow storm. The official meteorologic term they are using is  "Bomb Cyclone" which was the first I have heard of such things. Apparently it is a mid-latitude cyclone that intensifies rapidly. ... one expert was quoted as saying, "they just kind of explode". It has the effect of instantly appearing and getting very strong. So within the snow storm there can be some explosive events. They are predicting it could be one of the most intense bomb cyclones in the east coast in decades.  But whatever you call it the storm is here. High wind gusts and lots of snow are falling.

Asher, our ten year old, was sent out for some documentation. See photos. The top picture is of our street. We should also mention it is bitterly cold, too. Asher showed me a very red finger that resulted after being exposed to the elements just long enough to capture some images.

We also have a few pictures taken from inside our home looking out.  One of the effects of blustery winds is snow within our windows. We have old windows but I still never understood how snow gets inside a storm window. But such are some mysteries that for the moment remain unsolved.

If you are wondering what Kostin is doing? He is outside, too. He has not divulged what he is going to create...not sure if he knows yet.  The kids were able to make snow forts for protection with each hiding in their cavern of snow only popping up to hurl a snow ball at the other fort.

Snow storms of this magnitude are amazing to me. They bring a bustling society to a halt. Families stay home and try to stay warm.

It also brings more time for quiet prayer. Keeping you all in prayer.
God bless you.

Your Friend in Christ,
Blythe

Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus

Today is the beautiful Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus.  Several months ago my Pastor ask a number of people in our parish to share a few words on the affects prayer has had on them. He asked us to write to him our thoughts.  Sitting down at home after Mass thoughts flowed quickly.

I humbly share some of what came that morning:
What has prayer given me-

a tenderizing of my heart, ....a sensitivity to the use of Our Lord's name and an awareness of the use of Our Lord's name and a desire not to hear it misused

There was more included in my letter to my Pastor but one thing that stood out to me was how prayer had changed my response to the Name of Jesus. It was nothing that someone had forced upon me but rather this sensitivity to the use of the Name had come gently and from the depths of my heart.

In looking at one of the children from our Children's Rosary group that exists within an orphanage in Bien Hoa Vietnam, one can see the tenderness the child has with the Baby Jesus. She carries Him in hay with a blanket. She smiles when looking at Him. This is a child that prays the Rosary daily in her Children's Rosary group. It is a beautiful thought to imagine that through prayer more and more children will develop in a very tender way a love of the Name of Jesus.
