Feast of Our Lady of Pompeii

"He who propagates my Rosary will be saved"
This was a promise given to St. Dominic during a vision of Our Blessed Mother. These words were extremely important to Bl. Bartolo Longo.

Blessed Bartolo had grown up in a religious home where the Rosary was prayed. However, in his early adulthood he had rebelled against his Catholic upbringing and become a satanic priest. It was through a friendship with a Dominican priest that his conversion back to the Catholic faith began. Feeling disconcerted that some ties or effects from his old life of satanism might still exist, he took great consolation and placed his confidence in the promise given to St. Dominic by Our Lady: "He who propagates my Rosary will be saved." Thus, Bartolo Longo sought to spend his life spreading devotion to the Rosary.

He was instrumental in the  construction of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in the ancient city of Pompeii. This was Consecrated on May 8th 1891. Within the Church, he placed a picture of Our Lady of the Rosary and over time had it restored. This image was connected to many reported miracles. A rendering of this painting was done at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC. We were able to take a picture of it during a visit and have included it above. On this Feast of Our Lady of Pompeii, we ask for her prayers and blessings and also the intercession of Blessed Bartolo Longo who stands as a witness to the veracity of the statement: He who propagates my Rosary will be saved.
