Father DiOrio

Expectations
Fr. DiOrio
On Sunday, after the Children's Rosary, I went to a healing Mass with Fr. DiOrio.  My mother several weeks earlier had stumbled upon one of his healing services as she was waiting for Mass to begin at St. Anne Shrine in Sturbridge, MA USA.  She was praying in the back of the church and asked if Fr. DiOrio could also pray over her even though she had not attended the full healing prayer service.  After hearing about this I looked into it and heard remarkable witness accounts of healings at his services.

On Sunday a friend and I along with two of my children drove to Sturbridge for the healing service.  When Fr. DiOrio began the three hour service he told us he would like to lay hands on all of us and place holy oil on us as well.  He began to talk, as time was passing he kept mentioning that he was running out of time.  This made me a bit nervous.  He started Holy Mass and began making remarks such as, I feel the Lord does not want me to individually touch each of you today.  He told us it is not his hands that Heal but the Lord.  Touch is not essential.  There was a sadness inside me upon hearing this.  We had all come expecting he would lay hands on us.  I believe that it is Jesus who heals but still there was disappointment.  After receiving Eucharist my mood began to change.  I started to believe deep in my heart what he was saying.  In the last minutes of the prayer service without warning he began to ask those with hearing problems to rise.  He instructed them to put their fingers in their ears.   He called upon the Lord for healing.  He then called them all forward. Many elderly people reported that they had not heard any of the prayer service until Fr. Diorio said "come forward".

The following morning the first reading at Mass was from Kings.  It was the story of Na’aman the commander of the army of the king of Syria.  He had leprocy.  He was told by a slave girl that he could be healed in Israel.  Na'aman believed this slave girl and went to Israel. Eli'sha sent a messenger to him, saying, "Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean."But Na'aman was angry, and went away, saying, "Behold, I thought that he would surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place, and cure the leper. But his servants came near and said to him, "My father, if the prophet had commanded you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much rather, then, when he says to you, `Wash, and be clean'?" So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. (2Kings:10, 11, 13, 14)

Na'amon the leper washing
The priest at Mass on Monday morning, Fr. Sam, cautioned us against trying to make God conform to our expectations.  Na'aman wanted Eli'sha to make a ceremony out of healing him and touch him.  Instead he was instructed to go by himself to the Jordan river and wash.  Hearing the reading and reflecting upon the prior day I almost was brought to tears.  It became so clear. The Holy Spirit had wanted to teach us all something that day.  Stop trying to make God conform to our expectations.  When we trust and Love him He always exceeds what we desire.

This lesson was particularly timely, as God seems to have a knack for doing, as I was thinking a great deal about the Children's Rosary.  As many novenas are being said there is a tendency to expect certain immediate results.  The Lord showed me through this experience that He works in His own way. There can be no doubt He is working we just might not appreciate it from our humble viewpoint.

Fr. DiOrio echoed this sentiment when he told us no prayer made with humility and sincerity will be rejected.  He prayed as a simple seminarian that his parish would be the world.  Over 50 years later Fr. DiOrio has traveled around the globe and spoken to crowds as large as 250,000 in India.

Lord, when we the Children's Rosary are discouraged in our weakness please give us confidence in Your Love. Amen

  1. I went to the healing mass yesterday. Fr Diorio walked up the isle, and grabbed my head and pushed it into his left shoulder. he walked away. Later, when he was staanding next to me, I said, Fr. I am so sick. He asked what is wrong and I told him I have lesions on my brain. He said come here. I was in the isle when he put a hand on my head and said you are healed. I f3ell to the ground but I was perfectly awake. My left hand was shaking. I looked over at it and made it stop. I went home.
Today, I can use my right hand to scoop soup. I don't have any vision problems, and I feel great. I am being healed a little at a time. I do believe him.

  2. today i realized that when fr diorio pulled my head inot his left shoulder i realized that was near his heart and that he pulled my head with his left hand on the upper back of my head and he pushed the front of my head into his shoulder. That's where the lesion is. ps, this goes along with the above paragraph.
