A Gift from Our Lady Queen of the Holy Rosary

Last Friday an impulse brought me to the website of Little Audrey Santo.  She is a girl from Worcester MA USA whose cause for canonization is being considered in Rome.  The thought came while reading the beautiful story of her life that maybe someone from the organization for her canonization could speak at our Parish.  The first date that came to mind was the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary on October 7th.  I found as I read that they have in the past spoken at conferences or Parishes.  I called the number listed and left my information.  A short while later the phone rang.  A women asked for me and said she was returning my call.  I wondered could this be her mom, and so I asked her.  She said yes it is just me, her mom.  I could hear the clinking of dishes in the background and water running and could imagine her on the other end of the phone washing dishes. I loved this image because it is the way I like to think of Our Blessed Mother and other Saints such as St. Martha and Bl. Teresa of Calcutta.  Doing everyday things with love.  I told her that I was inspired by her daughter but I was likewise inspired by years of care that she gave her daughter while she was sick and confined to a bed.  She responded that this was not hard when you love someone.

Her mother, Linda, said she would be happy to come to our Parish on the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary.  After checking with our Pastor yesterday the date was set.  This morning after Mass I shared the exciting news that Linda Santo would be coming to Our Parish.  I mentioned that little Audrey is being considered for beatification and canonization and could be a new Pro-life Saint for Our time.  A member of our rosary group, who also is very active in the Pro-life group at our parish, said as her eyes filled up with tears "our group has been praying that a Pro-life speaker would come to the Parish one that our young people could relate to".  Her face became red and her eyes full of tears.  She smiled as she realized their prayers were answered.  The group meets weekly to pray the rosary and ask for the intercession of Our Lady.

Our Blessed Mother had answered their prayers and so many other prayers with Linda Santo's visit.  Who could doubt it was Our Lady's hand at work.  She had used the story of a small girl who suffered most of her life but was lavished by the love of her mother to unify a Parish.  Through this event many have already been drawn together and I feel this is only the beginning.

As I walked home from Church I kept thinking of Our Blessed Mother.  How much she loves us, how she cares for us like Audrey's mom did all those years.  I felt like a small child, safe with a mother who sees all and is taking care of everything.  I thought how silly I have been when I have worried.  I thought of the Beautiful Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary and how Our Lady had found a way to bring so many to her.  How a simple mother who loved her daughter to the core of her being would be her words that day.  How a church would come together to pray the rosary on a day designated to Honor Our Lady. It will be a day I hope and pray when many will find a mother not only in Linda Santo but the one who has been with us from the moment we existed a mother whose hand is guiding us each day. Amen

ANIMA CHRISTI: Favorite Prayer of St. Ignatius Loyola

ANIMA CHRISTI
Soul of Christ, sanctify me
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ Inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds hide me.
Suffer me not to be separated from Thee.
From the malignant enemy, defend me.
In the hour of my death, call me.
And bid me come to Thee.
That with Thy saints I may praise Thee,
Forever and ever. Amen.

(Indulgenced by Blessed Pope Pius IX, Jan. 9, 1954)

This prayer dates from around the 14th century.  As tomorrow (July 31st) is the Feast of Ignatius of Loyola and this is one of his favorite prayers  I thought it would be a good day to post the Anima Christi.  It also happens to be one of my favorite prayers, too.
St. Ignatius of Loyola was the youngest of 13 children and born in Spain.  After being wounded as a soldier in the Spanish army he experienced a deep conversion.  He experienced a vision of the Virgin Mary and infant Jesus at the shrine of Our Lady of Monserrat in 1522.  He spent the next two years in Manresa where he would spend up to 7 hours in prayer.  It was during this time that he began working on his great book Spiritual Exercises. St. Ignatius took a vow of poverty, chastity and obedience and went on to found the order of Jesuits.

Favorite Quote:
"If God causes you to suffer much, it is a sign that He has great designs for you, and that He certainly intends to make you a saint. And if you wish to become a great saint, entreat Him yourself to give you much opportunity for suffering; for there is no wood better to kindle the fire of holy love than the wood of the cross, which Christ used for His own great sacrifice of boundless charity." IMPRIMATUR
Bishop Robert McManus
Background

Audrey Santos was born on December 19th 1983 in Worcester, Massachusetts.  On August 9th 1987 at the age of three she fell into her families pool and recovered. She was brought to the hospital where she was accidentally overdosed with phenobarbital and went into a coma. She was in a coma for three weeks.  Upon awaking from the coma she remained in a state of Akinetic Mutism-non-speaking and limited movement. Her family took her home after 4 months and cared for her.  Audrey had to be fed by a g-tube.  This is except for one piece of food-the bread of life, Our Lord Jesus present in the Holy Eucharist which she consumed daily.  From the time of her injury people surrounded the family with prayers and support. Many wonderful things occurred around little Audrey.  Religious images in her room would exude oil.  This has continued even after her death. The family can not explain these phenomenon but because of the good fruits believe they are of God.  Following Audrey's death a postulator from the Congregation of the Causes of Saints visited the Santo family and with Bishop Robert McManus began the cause for the canonization of Audrey Santo. The first step was begun by making Audrey a Servant of God.  This short background of her life is only a small glimpse of the beauty of this small girl and her whole family.  Please read their personal account on their website.

The anniversary of the Audrey Event is August 9th.  In anticipation of this date we are beginning a 9 day novena to Audrey.   All are welcome to join.

Novena to Sts. Joachim and Anne for Parents and Grandparents

Novena to Sts. Joachim and Anne for Parents and Grandparents
Dear Mother and Father of the Blessed Virgin Mary
As parents you guided and nurtured Mary and watched her grow in holiness under your protection and love.  Through your faithfulness and goodness the Will of God was fulfilled.  The fruits of your virtue and faith have brought salvation to the whole world with the birth of baby Jesus.  The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us(John 1:14).
Most Holy Sts. Joachim and Anne come close to us and guide our hand and our hearts in the way of virtue.  Help us to parent our children and grandchildren with a gentle heart as you had.  Show us how to raise our children in faith and bring our families into the Light of Jesus. May you remain close to us and help us on this journey to salvation. We place our petitions in your hands and ask that you lay them before the child Jesus. Amen
(say 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, 1 Glory Be for nine days)

Feast of St. Bridget of Sweden

Growing up I have vivid memories of my mother always carrying around a blue pieta book.  At night when I went to bed she stayed up with her blue book.  I could see she was tired many nights but she said she would rather stay up and say the St. Bridget prayers every night.  A few times I looked at the prayers which went on for several pages and read them.  It seemed so overwhelming to me as a child to say this every day.  Years later I remembered that pieta book that my mother used to carry and decided to get one for myself.
I found it to be such a treasure with short prayers that one can say while waiting at an appointment or as I like to do on my walk to Church.  The little pieta book became a must have where ever I went along with my rosaries.  I again saw these St. Bridget prayers but seemed to pass over them for a few years.  Then last summer on the Feast of St. Bridget I looked at these prayers again and they did not seem so daunting.  Instead they seemed inviting.
The Fifteen St. Bridget prayers honor the blows that Jesus suffered during His passion.  The Lord Jesus shared with St. Bridget these prayers and asked that with each prayer an Our Father and Hail Mary should be said.  After 1 year every one of the 5480 blows on His body would be honored.
Yesterday the last prayers were said and Jesus’ last wounds were honored.  The Lord had a special gift in store.  I had not even realized when I woke up in the morning that it was the last day but the Lord through His hand guided me to a deeper appreciation of Jesus Crucified.  At the 8 AM Sunday Mass a mission priest said Mass.  His name was Fr. Larry Tucker.  He is a bilingual missionary priest in the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity.  He has served in New York, South Texas, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and England.  As soon as he began to say Mass I could feel the tenderness and deep love that he had for the Holy Eucharist.  During Mass I was aware of waves of deep love entering my heart.  They were so strong and full and were directed toward the priest.  I thought for a moment that this priest must be very dear to Our Lady.  As the thought entered my mind my heart was overcome with even more love.  I then became aware that I was being allowed to feel love passing from Our Lord and Our Lady to this gentle, peaceful priest.  At the moment of consecration Fr. Tucker held up the Host.  The bells were rung and then they stopped.  However he did not put the Eucharist down.  He held it there for what felt like minutes.  As he put it down he bowed and likewise I bowed in my place.  When I pulled my body up he still was not visible.  He was still on his knees.  At the end of Mass we had an opportunity to speak to Fr. Tucker.  We spoke about the children’s rosary and he shared with the children his experiences and how the Lord called him to be a priest.  As we were leaving he asked us to go to his car and gave us a very special Bible.  It had been a family Bible for many years, one which he had received as a gift. Fr. Tucker in his generosity decided to give this precious gift to us.  He also gave us a book called “The Prayer of Jesus Crucified” which he himself wrote.  As the children and I walked home from Church I had a strong feeling we had been given a very special gift by meeting Fr. Tucker.  To witness the love of one soul for Christ Crucified and then feel the response from Our Lord in your heart was life changing.  It was a taste of the deep relationship that can exist between a soul and Our Lord.  A Love that is passed back and forth.  To feel that as an observer created a thirst in my own soul to know Jesus in that way.  It was a gift from Jesus but also an invitation to come closer,  to love Him as Christ Crucified. Fr. Tucker’s book is written simply almost as a child would speak.  I would recommend this book to everyone.  It takes only 10-15 minutes to read and is crystal clear.  As the hour is getting late and I have many more prayers to say before bed I will leave this chapter of Fr. Tucker on hold with more to come in the future.
Today is the Feast of St. Bridget and I feel in my heart that I would like to begin the year again honoring Jesus’ wounds through the prayers of St. Bridget.  I pray this night that you reading this post will be moved to begin the St. Bridget prayers.  I pray that the Spirit of Prayer will descend on your Heart as you read this and there will be a overwhelming desire to begin these St. Bridget Prayers.  For as St. Bonaventure said: “Let him who desires to attain union with God keep the eyes of his soul ever fixed on Him who hangs dying on the Cross.  It’s from those wounds of the Savior that man draws power to suffer not merely with patience but with joy”.

We are hope in the face of darkness

On Wednesday afternoon I was waiting for the bus at work when the dark clouds began to roll in.  The sky became light with bolts of lightning in the distance.  The hospital where I work is on a large hill almost like a small mountain.  It has views of the Hartford City skyline.  As the storm rolled in the wind began to blow the trees and more and more lightning strikes approached.  It was a strange sensation watching the storm roll in but have little control over whether it would hit before we made it home.  As we stood outside waiting on the top of this hill I began to speak with a women standing next to me.  As she was becoming more and more frightened of the lightening approaching she began to pray for protection from God. When we were able to get into the bus she sat down next to me.   The storm had been a wonderful icebreaker about faith and she mentioned that she had received a rosary when she was a child but that she had forgotten the prayers.  She had been wanting to pray the rosary for some time but did not know how to begin.  I told her I could send her a little booklet to explain how to pray the rosary and also include a children's Bible for her grandchildren.  As I got off the bus she said to me "now don't forget to send me those things".  It was as if it were Christ himself speaking.  Those words have been echoing in my head since I left her.

It got me thinking about those movies you see where people are able to go back in time and if they change one very small thing the whole story is different.  -like that old back to the future movie.  I got to thinking that our own brief interactions with people however small acts like a bumper in a pin ball machine.  We can send the person in a whole different direction or if we miss the opportunity then they continue on the path they were on.  If we see a soul passing by, falling as a pin ball does into the hole from where the ball does not return. If we extend our hand and bump them up just for a moment might we save them from the hole that they might have fallen for good.  As I shared with you I struggle with patience with my children and pray for the gift of more love in my heart. Despite all the times when I feel like I am less than I could be I do take consolation in the moments when I did take a moment to interact positively with at least one person a day.

The women I met on the bus had physical signs that she had a rough life.  Despite her outward scars I felt very strongly her heart was still gentle and searching for the Lord. She did tell me she misses going to Mass when she does not go. I had a feeling that this was an important moment in her life.  I thought of each day that goes by that she sees her mailbox empty.  When her heart wonders what ever happened to that person on the bus who said they would send me a letter and help me learn the rosary.  If the letter had never come would her hope in others be all the less bright and maybe one day blow out all together.  However, what would her face look like when she finds a box at her apartment.  A box with Bibles for her grandchildren, a rosary, and a prayer card explaining how to say the rosary.  Will she be surprised to also get a letter in the mail explaining that each Bible she received has a saint written inside that was prayed to by another family.  Each saint having been asked to choose a family to lead and that family that the saint has chosen is her family.  What will her heart say when she reads an invitation to her to pray the children's rosary novena for another family so another family can receive a Bible like she did with a saint inside to help her.

Today I heard of the shootings in Colorado and the continued suffering in Syria.  One can think about this and become disheartened with the world.  Please do not lose faith or the bright light of hope.  Think about today.  Did you smile at anyone.  Did you encourage anyone?  Did you pray for someone?  How many people will have their life redirected even just a small fraction due to their interaction with you.  What does changing someones life by a small fraction mean.  It means a lot especially when there are ever growing number of others who will also redirect that person toward the Lord. Today despite all the sad news in the world I feel hope.  You all are hope to me. Each person that has written back from this blog and said something kind has lifted my spirit. Each family I see beginning family prayer brings more joy to my heart.  In a very real way you are all hope to me!!!  I pray that you all continue to bring the light of hope in this world. Amen.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel's Brown Scapular

Today is the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.  When I think of Our Lady of Mount Carmel I think of the brown scapular.  The brown scapular is a modified version of Our Lady's own garment. It represents Our Lady's personal protection to those that wear it.

During the last apparition of Fatima.  Our Lady appeared on October 13th 1917 dressed in the brown robes of Our Lady of Mount Carmel crowned as Queen of Heaven and Earth.  In her hands she held a brown Scapular and baby Jesus was upon her knee.  The brown scapular is a sign of personal consecration to our Lady.  Lucy later explained that "the Scapular and the Rosary are inseparable."

St. Simon Stock
Years earlier on July 16, 1951 Our Lady reportedly appeared to Saint Simon Stock and made Our Lady's Scapular promise, "Whosoever dies clothed in this shall never suffer eternal fire".

The devils revealed to Francis of Yepes, the brother of St. John of the Cross, that three things especially tormented them.  The first is the Name of Jesus; the second, the name of Mary; and the third, the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.  "Take off that habit, " they cried to him, "which snatches so many souls from us.  All those clothed in it die piously and escape us."(from Pieta Prayer Book)

Bl John Paul II
I had read that Bl. John Paul II was given a brown scapular when he received his first communion and wore it the rest of his life.  When he was shot and operated on in 1981, he told doctors not to remove the brown scapular he was wearing.

St. Alphonsus said: "Just as men take pride in having others wear their livery, so the Most Holy Mary is pleased when Her servants wear Her Scapular as a mark that they have dedicated themselves to Her service, and are members of the Family of the Mother of God."

What should I do when I purchase a Scapular?
In order to receive the spiritual blessings associated with the Scapular, it is necessary to be formally enrolled in the Brown Scapular by either a priest or a lay person who has been given this faculty. Once enrolled, the enrollment is for life and need not be repeated. Anyone, adult or infant, who has not previously been enrolled may be enrolled in the Brown Scapular. Participation in this devotion is open to non-Catholics as well.

St Bridget of Sweden: Novena and Background

St Bridget
Feast July 23
Novena
St. Bridget, Bride of Christ
Your life was centered around honoring the wounds of Christ.
Intercede before our Wounded Lord and ask Him to forgive the times when we have forgotten Him or through our sins increased His pain.
Beseech Jesus in His mercy to bestow upon on us a reverence and devotion to His Sacred Wounds.
Let us learn to carry our crosses with love.
Please tell Jesus that we love Him and thank Him for the pain and humiliation He indured for our sake.
St. Bridget, we humbly ask you to lay our petitions at the foot of the Cross as we know you will be warmly received. Amen
(Say 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, and 1 Glory Be for nine days)
Background
St. Bridget was born on the 14th of June, 1303 in Sweden to a wealthy and noble family. At the moment Bridget was born, Benedict, the curate of Raso, prayed for the happy deliverance of Ingeborde.  Suddenly he found himself enveloped by a luminous cloud out of which Our Lady appeared and said: “A child has been born at Birger; her voice will be heard by the entire world”
Imprimatur: April 24, 1902, Sagii
Brigitte or Bridget was born of pious parents but her mother died while she was still young and her care shifted to one of her virtuous aunts. At the age of 3 Bridget began to speak and she almost immediately began praising God.  When Bridget was only ten she had a dream of Jesus nailed to the cross and all covered with blood and wounds.  She heard a voice say: “Look upon Me, My daughter.” Bridget responded “O Dear Lord, who has treated You so cruelly?” Our Lord replied: “Those who despise Me and are insensible to My Love for them.”  That dream left a deep impression on her and Bridget continued to meditate on the sufferings of Jesus throughout her life.  At the age of 14 she married and had eight children.  One of her daughters is St. Catherine of Sweden. After a pilgrimage to Compostela she and her husband Ulf dedicated their lives to God and chose to live a monastic life.  After her husbands death she founded an order of nuns known as the Order of the Most Holy Savior, or the Bridgettines.
Bridget had many visions during her life. For a long time Bridget wanted to know the number of blows Our Lord received during His Passion.  One day Jesus appeared to Bridget and said: “I reveived 5480 blows on My body.  If you wish to honor them in some way, say 15 Our Fathers and 15 Hail Marys with the following prayers(which He taught her) for a whole year. When the year is up, you will have honored each one of My wounds.”

St. Bridget is the patroness of Sweden.

The Fifteen St. Bridget Prayers

Fifteen St. Bridget Prayers Revealed by Our Lord

The fifteen prayers were taught by Jesus to Saint Bridget.
He said to her,

I received 5,480 wounds on My Body during My Passion. If you wish to honor each of them in some way pray the following prayers each day for a whole year. When the year is over, you will have honored each one of My Wounds.

These prayers published under sanction of the Decree of November 18, 1966, published in the Acta Apostolicae Sedis, Vol. 58, No. 16, December 29, 1966
First Prayer

Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus Christ! Eternal Sweetness to those who love Thee, joy surpassing all joy and all desire, Salvation and Hope of all sinners, Who hast proved that Thou hast no greater desire than to be among men, even assuming human nature at the fullness of time for the love of men, recall all the sufferings Thou hast endured from the instant of Thy conception, and especially during Thy Passion, as it was decreed and ordained from eternity in the Divine plan.

Remember, O Lord, that during the Last Supper with Thy disciples having washed their feet, Thou gavest them Thy Most Precious Body and Blood, and while at the same time Thou didst sweetly console them, Thou didst fortell them Thy coming Passion.

Remember the sadness and bitterness which Thou didst experience in Thy Soul as Thou Thyself bore witness saying: "My Soul is sorrowful even unto death."

Remember all the fear, anguish and pain that Thou didst suffer in Thy delicate Body before the torment of the Crucifixion, when, after having prayed three times, bathed in a sweat of blood, Thou wast betrayed by Judas, Thy disciple, arrested by the people of a nation Thou hadst chosen and elevated, accused by false witnesses, unjustly judged by three judges during the flower of Thy youth and during the solemn Paschal season.

Remember that Thou wast despoiled of Thy garments and clothed in those of derision; that Thy Face and Eyes were veiled, that Thou wast buffeted, crowned with thorns, a reed placed in Thy Hands, that Thou wast crushed with blows and overwhelmed with affronts and outrages.

In memory of all these pains and sufferings which Thou didst endure before Thy Passion on the Cross, grant me before my death true contrition, a sincere and entire confession, worthy satisfaction and the remission all my sins. Amen.

Second Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! True liberty of angels, paradise of delights, remember the horror and sadness which Thou didst endure when Thy enemies, like furious lions, surrounded Thee, and by thousands of insults, spits, blows, lacerations and other unheard-of cruelties, tormented Thee at will. In consideration of these torments and insulting words, I beseech Thee, O my Savior, to deliver me from all my enemies, visible and invisible, and to bring me, under Thy protection, to the perfection of eternal salvation. Amen.

Third Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! Creator of Heaven and earth Whom nothing can encompass or limit, Thou Who dost enfold and hold all under Thy loving power, remember the very bitter pain Thou didst suffer when the Jews nailed Thy Sacred Hands and Feet to the Cross by blow after blow with big blunt nails, and not finding Thee in a pitiable enough state to satisfy their rage, they enlarged thy Wounds, and added pain to pain, and with indescribable cruelty stretched Thy Body on the Cross, pulling Thee from all sides, thus dislocating Thy limbs.

I beg of Thee, O Jesus, by the memory of this most Loving suffering of the Cross, to grant me the grace to fear Thee and to Love Thee. Amen.

Fourth Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! Heavenly Physician, raised aloft on the Cross to heal our wounds with Thine, remember the bruises which Thou didst suffer and the weakness of all Thy Members which were distended to such a degree that never was there pain like unto Thine. From the crown of Thy Head to the Soles of Thy Feet there was not one spot on Thy Body that was not in torment, and yet, forgetting all Thy sufferings, Thou didst not cease to pray to Thy Heavenly Father for Thy enemies, saying: "Father forgive them for they know not what they do."

Through this great Mercy, and in memory of this suffering, grant that the remembrance of Thy Most Bitter Passion may effect in us a perfect contrition and the remission of all our sins. Amen.

Fifth Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! Mirror of eternal splendor, remember the sadness which Thou experienced, when contemplating in the light of Thy Divinity the predestination of those who would be saved by the merits of Thy Sacred Passion, Thou didst see at the same time, the great multitude of reprobates who would be damned for their sins, and Thou didst complain bitterly of those hopeless, lost, and unfortunate sinners.

Through this abyss of compassion and pity, and especially through the goodness which Thou displayed to the good thief when Thou saidst to him: "This day, thou shalt be with Me in Paradise." I beg of Thee, O Sweet Jesus, that at the hour of my death, Thou wilt show me mercy. Amen.

Sixth Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! Beloved and most desirable King, remember the grief Thou didst suffer, when naked and like a common criminal, Thou wast fastened and raised on the Cross, when all Thy relatives and friends abandoned Thee, except Thy Beloved Mother, who remained close to Thee during Thy agony and whom Thou didst entrust to Thy faithful disciple when Thou saidst to Mary: "Woman, behold thy son!", and to St. John: "Son, behold thy Mother!".

I beg of Thee O my Savior, by the sword of sorrow which pierced the soul of Thy holy Mother, to have compassion on me in all my afflictions and tribulations, both corporal and spiritual, and to assist me in all my trials, and especially at the hour of my death. Amen.

Seventh Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! Inexhaustible Fountain of compassion, Who by a profound gesture of Love, said from the Cross: "I thirst," suffered from the thirst for the salvation of the human race. I beg of Thee, O my Savior, to inflame in our hearts the desire to tend toward perfection in all our acts, and to extinguish in us the concupiscence of the flesh and the ardor of worldly desires. Amen.

Eighth Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! Sweetness of hearts, delight of the spirit, by the bitterness of the gall and vinegar which Thou didst taste on the Cross for Love of us, grant us the grace to receive worthily Thy Precious Body and Blood during our life and at the hour of our death, that they may serve as a remedy and consolation for our souls. Amen.

Ninth Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! Royal virtue, joy of the mind, recall the pain Thou didst endure when plunged in an ocean of bitterness at the approach of death, insulted, outraged by the Jews, Thou didst cry out in a loud voice that Thou wast abandoned by Thy Father, saying: "My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?"

Through this anguish, I beg of Thee, O my Savior, not to abandon me in the terrors and pains of my death. Amen.

Tenth Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! Who art the beginning and the end of all things, life and virtue, remember that for our sakes Thou wast plunged in an abyss of suffering from the soles of Thy Feet to the crown of Thy Head. In consideration of the enormity of Thy Wounds, teach me to keep, through pure love, Thy Commandments, whose way is wide and easy for those who love Thee. Amen.

Eleventh Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! Deep abyss of mercy, I beg of Thee, in memory of Thy Wounds which penetrated to the very marrow of Thy Bones and to the depth of Thy being, to draw me, a miserable sinner, overwhelmed by my offenses, away from sin and to hide me from Thy Face justly irritated against me; hide me in Thy Wounds, until Thy anger and just indignation shall have passed away. Amen.

Twelfth Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! Mirror of truth, symbol of unity, link of charity, remember the multitude of wounds with which Thou wast covered from head to foot, torn and reddened by the spilling of Thy adorable Blood. O great and universal pain which Thou didst suffer in Thy virginal flesh for love of us! Sweetest Jesus! What is there that Thou couldst have done for us which Thou hast not done?

May the fruit of Thy sufferings be renewed in my soul by the faithful remembrance of Thy Passion, and may Thy love increase in my heart each day until I see Thee in eternity, Thou Who art the treasury of every real good and every joy, which I beg Thee to grant me, O sweetest Jesus, in Heaven. Amen.

Thirteenth Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! Strong lion, immortal and invincible King, remember the pain Thou didst endure when all Thy strength, both moral and physical, was entirely exhausted; Thou didst bow Thy Head, saying: "It is consummated."

Through this anguish and grief, I beg of Thee Lord Jesus, to have mercy on me at the hour of my death when my mind will be greatly troubled and my soul will be in anguish. Amen.

Fourteenth Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! Only Son of the Father, splendor and figure of His Substance, remember the simple and humble recommendation Thou didst make of Thy Soul to Thy Eternal Father, saying: "Father, into Thy Hands I commend My Spirit!" And with Thy Body all torn, and Thy Heart broken, and the bowels of Thy Mercy open to redeem us, Thou didst expire.

By this Precious Death, I beg of Thee O King of Saints, to comfort me and help me to resist the devil, the flesh and the world, so that being dead to the world, I may live for Thee alone. I beg of Thee at the hour of my death to receive me, a pilgrim and an exile returning to Thee. Amen.

Fifteenth Prayer
Say one Our Father and one Hail Mary

O Jesus! True and fruitful Vine! Remember the abundant outpouring of blood which Thou didst so generously shed from Thy Sacred Body as juice from grapes in a wine press.

From Thy Side, pierced with a lance by a soldier, blood and water issued forth until there was not left in Thy Body a single drop, and finally, like a bundle of myrrh lifted to the top of the Cross, Thy delicate Flesh was destroyed, the very substance of Thy Body withered, and the marrow of Thy Bones dried up.

Through this bitter Passion, and through the outpouring of Thy Precious Blood, I beg of Thee, O Sweet Jesus, to receive my soul when I am in my death agony. Amen.

Concluding Prayer

O Sweet Jesus! Pierce my heart so that my tears of penitence and love will be my bread day and night; may I be converted entirely to Thee, may my heart be Thy perpetual habitation, may my conversation be pleasing to Thee, and may the end of my life be so praiseworthy that I may merit Heaven and there with Thy saints, praise Thee forever. Amen.
